Taittiriya Upanishad Lecture 71 Ch2 3-4 on 24 September 2025 Q&A
Q&A Session with Swami Dayatmanandaji Maharaj
The Foundation of Manomaya Kosha
Maharaj: In Manomaya Kosha, all the four Vedas form the support. The moment you use the word "support," support is one thing, that which is supported is another thing. Veda means knowledge, mind means what? Thought means what? Knowledge.
So it is nothing but Veda only. That's why people do not understand. Vedas give us knowledge both about the secular life as well as spiritual.
Vedic Knowledge and Modern Science
That is why even scientific knowledge is also called Vedic knowledge. So many so-called marvellous sciences have been lost. Simple example I am giving you: there is something called Vedic mathematics, and that is such a marvellous methodology that huge calculations can be done so easily.
But Puri, there is a Shankara Matha and one head—previous head—he was an expert in it and he was invited by even American universities to come and lecture on this. Some of that has come in a book form; it is called "Vedic Mathematics." For your curiosity, you can go to YouTube and search "Vedic Mathematics" just to get a little bit of glimpse.
Clarifying Knowledge vs. Right Knowledge
Student: Maharaj, when we say Manomaya Kosha is nothing but knowledge, the knowledge part—it sounds like Vijnanamaya Kosha.
Maharaj: No, no, thoughts. I said thoughts. Thoughts are also knowledge.
But at this stage, knowledge does not mean right knowledge. Whatever thoughts we have, you cannot say every thought is right thought, isn't it?
Student: Correct.
Maharaj: I want to murder somebody. Is it knowledge or not? But is it right knowledge?
Mind is—Vedas are nothing but knowledge. Knowledge expresses as worldly knowledge as well as spiritual knowledge, and knowledge comes to us in what form? When you heard my talk, you got knowledge or not?
Student: Yes, sir.
Maharaj: In which form?
Student: Thoughts.
Maharaj: Ah, that is the meaning of it. Wonderful, actually.
