OM JANANIM SHARADAM DEVIM RAMAKRISHNAM JAGAD GURUM PADAPADMETAYO SRIDHVA PRANAMAMI MUHURMUHU We are studying the gospel of Sri Ramakrishna in our last class. We have been discussing about the most important aspect of sadhana is how to control our thoughts. Naturally, thoughts are divided into Asuri thoughts and Daivi thoughts which is beautifully described in the Gita. These are demonic thoughts, unspiritual thoughts as well as Daivi Sampath, spiritual thoughts. When we are talking about certain qualities like Abhaya, Sattva Samshuddhi, Jnana etc., we are talking about thoughts. Thoughts which make us very healthy both physically and mentally and take us to God. And here also Shraddha, faith in God is also a thought. Let us not forget. But at the same time, Rationality, whether what we are studying is it blind faith or is it doing some good to me. If it is not doing good to me, then what do I need to do about it? This continuous awareness of what I am thinking, what I am speaking and what I am doing is the very first step in Yoga. According to Shankaracharya, what is the first step in Yoga? Keeping silent. Mounam. Yogasya Prathamam Dwaram. Mouna. What is Mouna? Not merely keeping mum but glaring at somebody or thinking wrong thoughts about or planning to do some harm. That's not Mouna. Mouna means we are so absorbed in God that we are not aware of something else besides. That is called true Mouna. But at the same time, we have to struggle very hard. So the question was put by a devotee that we have got this Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Matsarya. Lust, Anger, Greed, Avarish, Pride and Irshiya or Asuya, Jealousy. Then the first point we discussed was these are not six enemies but one enemy putting on a different dress and being recognized as a different being. Kama dresses as Krodha, Lobha or even better ignorance dresses itself as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Matsarya. That's what the second story in the Durga Saptashruthi indicates. Now Ahankara manifests in these six forms. Earlier I said it is Avidya. Avidya means ignorance. Ignorance means not absence of knowledge but wrong knowledge. We have got plenty of knowledge but it is all Avidya only. Why? Because accepting about our own true nature. We are thinking about everything else. There are two words in this particular usage Aham and Kara. Aham is pure. Aham is Brahman. Aham is Atman. Aham is Sat, Chit, Ananda. But to Sat for example we add something. To the clay we add Nama Rupa. It becomes a pot. To gold we add Nama Rupa. It becomes an ornament. To wood we add Nama Rupa which goes by the name furniture. So that Aham cannot be destroyed because it is pure. It is the Atman. It is the consciousness, pure consciousness, pure existence, pure bliss. But it is the Kara. What is Kara? I am not Sat. I am not Chit. I am not Ananda. I am a human being. I am a mosquito. I am a dog etc. It is this Ahankara which takes the forms of what is called Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada, Macharya. One of the most strongest enemies of human being is also called Kama. But this Kama can be anything. I want to eat a sweet. I want to listen to some music. I want to smell a fragrant flower. That is why we go on spraying ourselves with so many things. So Kama means here specifically the attraction, the very natural attraction that exists between male and female. It is not necessarily human beings, even mosquitoes. I don't know. Even maybe amoeba also there may be. So this attraction is the greatest obstacle. And in the third story in the Chandi we get the Divine Mother herself wanted to destroy Shumba and Nishumbha. How did she do that? She appeared as the most beautiful woman in this whole world. And that roused the lust of Shumba and Nishumbha. We know the story. So this is the greatest obstacle. And practically everybody was questioning Shri Ramakrishna how to overcome this. Because this what we call lust between man and woman, male and female. I prefer to use the word male and female. It is extraordinarily difficult. Why? Because it is there in nature, our very body. It is the biggest chemical factory in the world. It starts producing these hormones at the age of 14 or 15. Why? For the propagation of the species. What is called immortality through propagation of species. And this subject has been beautifully analyzed by great scientist Richard Dawkins. The selfish gene. Anyway, because it is natural force, very difficult to overcome that. But unless we overcome, then it is difficult to progress in spiritual life. Not only in spiritual life. This is what they call Russian medicine. If Russia wants to, and every nation does the same thing. And this is also called honey trap. If Russia wants to get some state secrets or technical secrets, war weapons etc. They find out a person who has information and then set a most beautiful woman. And that is how Vishwamitra was tested. Which story we have repeated many times. And there also the same meaning. First he failed in lust. Second time he failed in anger. And both are nothing but Ahamkara or Avidya only. Third time he became a little better. So this is the most challenging enemy. Because it is natural and because we have been fulfilling its desires. Life after life it becomes most marvelous. And you know the same lust in old age, it takes on the form of pride, greed etc. Even though a old age person cannot enjoy, but he wants to feel I have plenty. So he will have lots and lots of things which are really he cannot use. He is incapable of using them also. And this is beautifully illustrated by Tolstoy in a story. How much land does a man require? And then every spiritual aspirant should approach a Sadguru. And that is how the direct disciples, most of them have approached Sri Ramakrishna. But we don't have direct evidence. They did not tell excepting a few of them. We have been discussing and what was Sri Ramakrishna's advice. That they are not our enemies. Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Matsarya, they are not our enemies. But directed properly they could be our greatest helpers, friends. And that is what Sri Ramakrishna used to say. Direct all your desires towards God. Kama, direct towards God. And that is what Gopis have done. And then who are the Gopis? Very interesting if we analyze. They were all Rishis. And why did they not realize God? Because of deeply, maybe suppressed. But this very Kama which was blocking their way. Now they started directing towards Krishna. And that is how they were saved. So any one of these can be directed towards God. Including even other things which are not mentioned here. For example, Bhayam. I am going to give a quotation very shortly about that. So this is what we have been discussing. Increase these very forces but continuously direct. Don't go on increasing without directing. You increase a little, direct it towards God. Then you increase a little more, direct it towards God. Otherwise we fall headlong into the pit. And regarding this the direct disciples were telling. That is what we were discussing in our last class. Swami Turiyananda, he says. That mere suppression of passions helps a little. That means it doesn't help. Not only it doesn't help. All the mad caps, insane people. They have become insane. Swami Yathushananda Maharaj used to tell us. That every Sadhaka and especially the monks and nuns. Must have some basic knowledge of psychology. What is psychology? Studying one's own mind. Studying one's own mind. And it is not meant to cure other people or anything. But just to guard ourselves. Oh this enemy is popping up now. We should be aware of it. So continuously being aware of what thoughts are arising. Because the thoughts fall under the six categories. Or even Bhaya etc. If we keep a watchful eye. And that is what Sri Ram Krishna also did. That is what every person who realized God had done. Before realization of God. And that is what we have to take care. And any saint goes on teaching the same thing. This is what Swami Turiyananda is telling. There must be a high ideal along with self-restraint. On the one side simply merely thinking. I will conquer lust. I will conquer anger. It will be only giving us counter effect. Because the more we think of lust. The more it grows. It is like feeding a poisonous snake with nutritious milk. It is very important for us to understand this truth. So Swami Turiyananda is telling. There must be some self-restraint. But first there must come a high ideal. And as our faith, desire, Vyakulata grows for the high ideal. Self-restraint also becomes stronger. What happens without a high ideal. The passions will find another outlet. This is called Mahishasura. Changing his form. Every time the Divine Mother kills. Then he pops up in a different form. So you must give them a new direction. Then you will be automatically rid of them. And Swami Turiyananda was telling this out of his own experience. Because his former name was Hari. Hari Maharaj approached Sri Ramakrishna. Every young man practically approached Sri Ramakrishna. I want to realize God. So what shall I do? And Sri Ramakrishna's advice. According to the individual. You direct towards them. That was the advice to Swami Turiyananda or Hari Maharaj. So the master explains. What is lust? It is the desire to get something. Then instead of desiring to get something. Anatma. Desire to get Him. God. And strengthen this desire greatly. Every word that Sri Ramakrishna utters. Has a deep meaning. Just look at this. Then desire to get Him. Desire to get God. But at the same time. Strengthen this desire greatly. Without the desire for God. If we strengthen the desire greatly. Fall is surely to follow. Every desire. We have to know the psychology. What is desire? Our unconscious mind is telling. That you are really Sachidananda. You have forgotten about it. That's why you are not happy. You are not getting Ananda. So every desire. May be this Ananda. May be available in a street. In a piece of dress. In a car. In money. In power. In position. But it is covering itself up. In these ways. And it is coming. And then what do we do? We become Rakta Bijas. What is Rakta Bija? Bija means seed. So what is Rakta Bija? As soon as the desire. Gets fulfilled. Through our own. Voluntary. Experience. Then it becomes. Another desire. Stronger than before. Arises. Like that. Every desire. Becomes stronger. Through experience. So what is the way? One way is. That is why. You do Brahmaarpanam. Offer it to God. And accept it as Prasadam. And Prasada purifies us. So. These desires are really. A desire for God only. And they will not stop. Until we know. We are God. How do we know we have desires? Because. Observe. Our mind. Let us observe our mind. What happens? Mind becomes restless. So long as we are. Some object is giving. Happiness. So long as we are enjoying that object. Mind becomes calm. Because. It is getting Ananda. But it is only. Momentary. Shanika. Then immediately. The same. Desire. Becomes stronger. With each experience. It becomes stronger and stronger. But. If we offer it to God. Keeping God in mind. Remembering God. Then what happens? Immediately. That. Slowly. Transforms. Purifies. That is called Chitta Shuddhi. So ultimately. Desire. Is. The manifestation of God. In us. And. It can be. This. Teaching can be put. In a different way. Each soul is. Potentially divine. So. I will put it. Slightly different way. Each soul. Is. A potential. A desire. To manifest. Our potentiality. Of divinity. Each desire. Is. A manifestation. Of. Our. Innate. Potentiality. Of divinity. But. At the beginning. We are searching for our divinity. In. Ordinary objects. But in course of time. We will. Through experience. We understand. It's not available. It is. It must be available. Somewhere else. If it is not available. In. Anatma. It should be available. In. Atma. That is called. Avrutta Chakshu. Amrutatmam Ichcham. At the beginning. We cannot help. But. Search. Outside. Only through experience. Through. Painful. Experience. Through. Lot of. Beatings. Disappointments. Depressions. Then we come to the. Ultimate. Truth. So. Swami Turiyandi says. There must be. Psychology. Behind. Lust. And what is that? It is a desire. To become one. Man wants to become. One with woman. So long as. Man thinks. He can never become. One. So long as. Man thinks. He is a mind. He cannot become. One. Only when the man knows. I am the Atman. And he knows. Instinctively. The woman. Also. Is only Atman. Then. Really. Like water. Being. Poured into water. Like. Oil. Being. Poured into oil. They become. One. Otherwise. Like two things. In a table. You will see. Wood. Plus some nails. Iron nails. Which. Are totally different. But. That is what. Makes a table. A table. That is one example. Very near. Indistinguishable. But. Two things are there. But. Take the second example. You take a glass of water. Put salt into it. You have seen in the. Sixth chapter of the Chandogya. The father asks. Shweta Ketu. You mix salt. And then. Next day. Bring that water to me. Did you mix salt? Yes sir. Where is the salt? Do you see any salt? You try to find out. Hundred times you. Empty that. Glass into another glass. You will not find the salt. But. The salt is there. Salt and water. Have not become mixed up. Really speaking. How do we know? Because. The salt is there. Salt and water. Have not become mixed up. Really speaking. How do we know? Because. The salt is there. Salt and water. Have not become mixed up. Really speaking. How do we know? If it is completely mixed up. They can never be separated. So you. Boil the water. Then distilled water will come out. Leaving the salt behind. But you pour water into water. They become absolute. Oneness. Unity. So therefore. What is this desire? What is this lust? It is to attain oneness with. Our own Atma. Like the. What is called musk deer. Searching. For the fragrance. It runs all over. Not knowing. It is. Coming from. Its own self. So we are all like that. That's why. Sturyananda Maharaj says. Men take a wrong course. They begin with gross. Hence their failure. To carry it up. To the pure substance God. Some however. Have attained realization. Even through this. As for example. Chandidasa. And then. I told you earlier. That the six. So-called enemies. Are our greatest friends. Even more than. Devotion. More than Bhakti. Because the intensity of these. Six. Is much greater. Karma is greater. Than Prema. So Bhaya. Also is included. So here you see. Gopya Kamat. Bhayat Kamsaha. Dreshat Chaitya Dayon Ripaha. Sambandhat Krishnayaha. Snehat Yuvayam. Bhakta Bhaktiyavayam Vibho. Beautiful verse in the. Srimad Bhagavatam. Gopis attained. God realization. By directing. All their lust. Towards only. Krishna. Kamsa. What is the common thing about them. These Gopis. Cannot think of anybody else. Excepting Krishna. There is a beautiful hymn. It is called. Govinda Damodara. Stotram. Extraordinarily beautiful. Stotram is there. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. The Gopis. Early morning they get up. How do they get up. Remembering. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. Then soon. They take bath. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. Then. They start. Bringing out the butter. Churning the butter. From the. Milk. Where they have put some. Yogurt. Previous night. As they are churning. They go on. Moving their bodies. Their hands. You know. Churning. Is a wonderful exercise. You can do it. Just standing. Imagining. That you are churning. But. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. And they are boiling the milk. How? Singing. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. They are cooking. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. They are carrying water. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. 24 hours. What do you think? A person. Who is practicing this. Will be thinking. In the dreams. Govinda. Comes to them. Like Dada Madhusodana. Appeared. The whole story. Let us put it. There is a woman. She wants Krishna. And she had a son. And the son was devoted. And the son was meditating. So. He was afraid of the forest. And then his mother told him. Nothing. Simply you sing. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. So he started singing. Only Ram Krishna uses the word. Dada Madhusodana. Your elder brother is there. And he had complete faith. And when he became frightened. He said Dada Madhusodana. And immediately. Krishna came out. Played with him. Fed him. With divine fruits. Krishna was himself. Creating. All these heavenly fruits. To his loving younger brother. Taking care of him. And took him out of the forest. And then we know the story. I will not repeat it. And if you do not remember. It is not worth repeating. On the Guru Dakshina Day. Once in a year. Everybody has to carry. Some gifts to the Guru. So this person asked his mother. Said I don't have anything my child. You ask Dada Madhusodana. He gave. One small utensil. Of curds. And the Guru was highly displeased. What? We are getting plenty of these curds. But then. He could not say no. Then he emptied. Tried to empty that one. Into a bigger pot of curds. Wonder of wonders. That pot never became emptied. And then. We have to imagine. We have to add our imagination. So the Guru. Let me see. Whether it is a sour worthless curds. And then he tasted. My God. It is better than nectar. He understood. This is something miraculous. So we know the story. So the Guru got the darshan. Of God. Only with the help of the disciple. He did not see Krishna. But he heard the voice of Krishna. Now. You have to. You should not stop. With the. Listening to the story. You should say. After hearing. The voice of Bhagawan. Which the Guru could clearly. Hear. Your Guru. Is not having that much of Shraddha in me. Like you. He will not be able to see me. Not forever. When he obtains Shraddha like you. He will be able to see me all the time. Then I will become Dada. To everybody. Instead of saying Dada. So. Everything is. You only. That feeling will come. So. What should. Could have happened to the Guru. Similarly. The story of the. Maid servant. She was supplying milk. And one day the teacher. Told her. Why do you come late. And she explained her problems. The Guru told. What a foolish person you are. He was perhaps. Unconsciously addressing himself. By taking the name of God. One crosses over the ocean of Samsara. But. You. Are frightened of this small river. And from next day. Milk supply was. Exactly in time. Regular. And then he asked. How come nowadays. You are not missing. Then she told. You only guided me. What. What did I say. He forgot. That. Take Krishna's name. And he will cross over. I don't believe it. You are walking on the water. I don't believe it. And then he went. And then she started chanting. And. Walking. You have to. Exercise your imagination. How much faith she had. She was not going to sink. Her clothes are not going to get wet. She is not going to drown. Happily. She was singing. That is the power of faith. Like Ram Krishna tells many many stories. Vibhishana. Wrote. On a piece of paper. To a human being. Who was shipwrecked. On the banks of the Sri Lanka. Etc. Then. She turned back and said. How come. You are taking the name of God. And you are lifting your cloth. That will not do Sir. If you really believe. You don't need to lift. What does it mean. It means you are not going. To walk in the water. You are going to walk on the water. These are marvelous stories. Now. My point is. After seeing this one. What the maidservant was doing. By taking God's name. Do you think. That. Brahmana. Remained the same character. Or. Did his character. Really. Change. For the better. And anybody. Even. If you witness. One such miracle in your life. It is likely. Your whole life will be. Changing. See. These are the things. We have to understand clearly. When Sir Ram Krishna used to worship. He used to see. How. Every mantra. For example. He will say Ram. It is called Agni Mantra. Beeja Mantra for Agni. Immediately. A wall of fire. Blazing wall. Surrounds him. And. No. Mal. Malvalent being. Bhuta. Preta. Vishaja. Don't think they are all. Superstitions. Blind faiths. They are all. Absolutely. Real. So. Don't get frightened. They also get frightened seeing you. Why? Because they are only Bhutas. But each one of us are. A combination of. Five Bhutas. Pancha Bhutas. Anyway. So once we have such an experience. Our whole life is most likely it will change. So. We have to understand. By witnessing these things. One can change. How many lives have changed. By these kind of miracles. So. This is the most wonderful thing. That happened. Through lust. Lust means. These Gopis. Cannot turn their. Desire for Krishna. They are not like ordinary. Women. They are the greatest Rishis. That is why in the Gopi Gita we get. Who can utter these words. Unless they are. Having that knowledge. But their realization was not complete. And they did not get that much Ananda. Only after seeing Sri Rama in Dandakaranya. They got. And then once they got that higher Ananda. They didn't want to leave. But they did not have the equipment. And that equipment could come. Only in their next birth. When they were. They incarnated themselves as. Gopis. And then. Kamsa was the greatest devotee of Bhagwan Krishna. A message came. That the eighth child of Devaki. Is going to be your nemesis. Your Mrityu. Your death. And then from that second. His entire life changed. Because Mrityu. Gives the greatest fear. We are not thinking about Mrityu. We are thinking it will come. But it will come. Tomorrow. And so we kneel. For notice. In front of our houses. Death is going to come to me. Tomorrow. And next day. Again you look. Death is going to come to me. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. That is why. We have discussed this one. And those who are remaining. They never think. Death is ever going to come to them. So. The moment Kamsa. He heard the message. Entirely fear possessed him. Fear is what. Possessed him. Oh. I am going to be. Non-existent. And. Never do I want to become. So. That he started. How can I avoid Krishna. Krishna. In a few days time. As the Bhagavatam says. Whoever is coming. Perhaps. Krishna is coming. Disguised in the form of my servant. My friend. My army. My commanders in chief. And anybody who is coming. Maybe is Krishna coming. And then when he goes to sleep. Full of Krishna Maya. If such a devotee doesn't get liberation. I don't know who else will get. So through Bhaya. Kamsa attained Bhagavan. Veshath Chaityadayu. Chaityadayu means what? Shishupala Tantavatra. They started hating. How much? That is the point. Hating is not the point. They cannot forget Krishna. 24 hours. They were only thinking of Krishna. And those who do Upasana of Krishna. Through any of these forms. Guises. Then they will become Krishna only. Therefore Krishna came and liberated. And then he says. This is our son. So Nanda. This is my son. And then Yashoda. This is my son. And there in the prison. She is imagining. My son is growing up. So he must be starting to smile. Starting to crawl. Starting to stand up. And take what is called faltering steps. Etc. 24 hours for 12 years. She had been practicing like Sri Ramakrishna. Continuous Upasana. On the baby. And only after 12 years. Sri Krishna came. Now just incidentally. This is what we have to discuss. Because this is called Sri Ramakrishna Bhagavatam. And it is much better also. I should not say that. It is equally good. Like Bhagavatam. And it is full of Bhakti. With the protection of Jnanam. And with the caution of Yoga. And with the aid of Karma Yoga. Beautiful. So what was Devaki doing? And there is very little mention of Vasudeva. What was he doing? So what Sri Ramakrishna used to say. Now think of God. Day and night. This very prison. Had become Nirjana Sthana. Like Sri Ramakrishna used to say. And how did they pass the time? Only by thinking of Krishna. Krishna. Krishna. And then Krishna came. And liberated them. So we also. I am the father. I am the mother. I am the brother. I am the relative. Sambandha means relationship. So they attained Mukti. So through the relationship. Remembering the relationship. And then there are so many people. Who have cherished friendship with Krishna. Uyam means you people. And through regular devotion. Earlier Kama. Bhaya. Dvesha. Bhaktia. All of us. O Lord, we are going to attain to you. This is what Sri Ramakrishna is telling. That you increase. But first develop. A vyakulata for God realization. And then only we increase. Swami Turiyanandaji continues. You have heard also. Abilva Mangala and Tulasi Dasa. And Sri Ramakrishna himself. Narrates beautiful stories of Abilva Mangala. Let us remember. Any number of times. One story continues. Abilva Mangala was an orthodox Brahmin. He grew up. He was a great devotee of God. But he fell into the clutches. Of a public woman. And he could not live without her. Every night. He will visit her. So one day it happened to be. What is called. According to his ancestors. But that day. He had to call some Brahmins. And they were. Special preparations were made. And he was impatiently waiting. Why are these Brahmins. Pujaris taking long time. And nowadays situation is. Why are these Pujaris. Finishing it so quickly. His problem was. If they are taking longer time. And our problem is. Mumbling. And cutting so many things. Like the summarization by the chart. All the mantras etc. Ram Krishna himself. Graphically describes. What these priests mumble. God alone knows. By that time they come. They sit and within few minutes. Everything is over. So this Abilva Mangala. On that Shraddha day. Very impatiently waiting. It was dusk. He gathered some of the. Best delicacies. And started. How wonderful his story. He wanted to reach his beloved. Very quickly. So he cut across a garden. And there Ram Krishna. Tells another story. I don't know where the source. He must have heard it from some Sadhus. Or some Bhaktas. He stumbled in the darkness. Against a Yogi. Supposedly a Yogi. Sitting and meditating. And the Yogi got very angry. That means he was not absorbed. So he said don't you see. Abilva Mangala said. How can I see it is dark. And you are sitting on the pathway. Why don't you go a little bit to the side. Under a tree. Which is not the pathway. You could have sat. But no. For this parable. Then Abilva Mangala apologized. Sorry. I could not see you. But then he puts a most marvelous question. I am thinking of a woman. Public woman. That means what. That means I am quite aware. A public woman is not going to love anybody. I am fully aware of it. Abilva Mangala was not a fool. But he was. So much of. Control of this. Irresistible power of lust. So how come. I forgot the entire world. Thinking of the prostitute. And you are 100% aware. Of who is. Stumbling against you. Etc. Even though you are claiming. You are meditating upon God. Of course we don't know what the Yogi replied. He must have replied angry. That is not the point. The point is our meditation. Should gradually take us to that state. So this is how. The Abilva Mangala story goes. Then there was a small river. And it was in flood. It was in full fury. And somehow. He found out there was no boat. But there was a. What is called a piece of log. And then he crossed. Taking that one somehow. Carrying all the delicacies. And then he reached. When the darkness was dense. And by that time. The prostitute has closed. She was trying to sleep in her room. Or may be sleeping. And then what is the way to reach her. She was upstairs. So he saw. A rope was hanging. What a marvelous story. And then he took hold of the rope. And reached the window and knocked. She was startled. It was coming from him. And then she asked. How did you come at this. And it was raining heavily. And it was cold. It was windy. We have to imagine that. He said what is the difficulty. I saw a piece of log. And you kindly have left one thick rope. For me to climb up. She said what rope are you talking about. So she lit a lamp. And then saw. Trying to get inside. Her room. But then. She was hanging there near the window. And when this Bilva Mangala caught it. Don't ask me. Whether both of them did not fall down. It's a story. So he did not care. He thought she loved him so much. That she left a thick rope. In case. He required to climb to her room. Then she said. Where is the piece of log. He said it is there on this river. So her house must have been. Near the banks of that small river. So she took the lamp. And both of them went. What did they see. A corpse was floating there. And he mistook it for a. A piece of log. And safely he crossed. Think over this story. And then she became so. Enlightened. She came to. Bilva Mangala. In the form of that prostitute. Said. If you had. One hundredth of. The love you possess for this filthy body. Why filthy body. Because. I decorate myself nicely. Put on anjans etc. To attract men. But you are smelling. Like hell. How this putrid body. So much of love. If only you had. One hundredth of that love. Then you would have. Reached God. Much much earlier. And those words at that moment. Awakened Bilva Mangala. And then he renounced the world. So the story goes. But I will comment upon it. A little bit. Because this is what we are supposed to do. We are not reading gospel. We are studying the gospel. The point is. This Bilva Mangala's. One pointed love. Lust. Has now become. Transformed itself into. Irresistible force. Love. What is the psychology? When love reaches. The point where. No earthly object. Has the capacity. To bear it. Like if you have got some. Very delicate glassware. And then you drop. Very very hot. It may crack. Just like that. No ordinary person. Will be able to bear it. When a person loves too much. It is impossible. To bear it. For ordinary human. Great love. Can be sustained. Only by the divine lord. Nobody else. We have all limitations. Too much of love. If anybody loves us. We become frightened of that person. We also want our freedom. If somebody is 24 hours. Want to see you. Want to embrace you. Want to speak with you. Want to do everything with you. How long are you going to put up with that person? Do you think you will be able to do that? Fortunately. Out of 24 hours. Nearly 23 and half hours. We are busy with. Either Sushupti or some kind of work. Or we are absorbed in something. So somehow. Half an hour. Somehow we put up. With our beloved objects. Even a mother. If the child is there for more than a few minutes. It becomes a terrible burden. You. Perhaps have never thought about it. Think over it. Everything becomes boring. If it exceeds certain time limitations. Space limitations. Etc. If your child doesn't want to leave your lap. Just imagine. What you will give. A push. And then make that person this one. So that much of intensity. Of love. Velumangala had developed. And then he became. God's grace came in that form. What is the lesson? Unless our love also. Transforms. You love anything. But if you love too much. That object becomes Guru. That object becomes God. To awaken us. Because the whole world becomes like a mirror. To reveal what we are. This is the psychology behind. And then the story continues. Velumangala renounced the world. But his desire. His lust. Has not disappeared. So he went to Brindavan. To worship Lord Krishna. And then one day he was on the banks of the Yamuna. Thinking of Krishna. But his lust. Is deprived of an outlet. It was growing. Suddenly he saw. A beautiful woman came. To bathe in the Yamuna. And the moment he beheld. He thought in his eyes. She was looking the most beautiful woman. In the world. So he understood. He became awakened by that time. As Hrithishan Maharaj used to say. Be aware of what you are thinking. Velumangala became aware of his thoughts. So he followed her. Behind her. She entered into a house. She stood in front of the house. And then started calling. Then the husband of that woman. Came out. Seeing the Sanyasi. Vaishnava Sanyasi. Said Sir. What can I do to help you? He said. Please ask your wife to come out. And then naturally he called her. And then she came out. So she asked. How can I serve you? You know. To keep your hair tied up. You are using some pins there. On your hair. You give me one pin. I want one pin from you. And then. She did not understand. Why a Vaishnava Sadhu. Wants a woman's hair pin. Anyway. She gave it. Here Sir. Please take it. And then I am using my own masala to this. He must have returned to the banks of the Yamuna. And then. He said. Oh eyes. Because of you. I have become fallen into the trap of a public woman. And I became awakened by God's grace. And now. Again you are after me. You are not going to tempt me anymore. So with that. He pierced both his eyes. With that pin. He became blind. This is one story that goes. Anyway. The moral of this story is obvious. He became an awakened person. He would not tolerate anything. To obstruct his further progress. In spiritual life. Then what happened? We don't know. But another version is there. There was a very beautiful. Story of Krishna. It is called. Krishna Sri Krishna Karnamrutam. Karnamrutam. Karnamruta. Just like if you drink Amruta. You feel so happy. So if you listen to this. Krishna Karnamrutam. Most mellifluous. Like Geeta Govindam of Jayadeva. So marvelous. If you get opportunity. And if you know a bit of Sanskrit. You can really enjoy it very well. So. He had done that one. And then. It is said he has written it. We don't know. But whoever has written. Must have been one of the greatest. Devotee of Bhagwan Krishna. There is no doubt about it. So. This is what Turyananda Maharaj is telling. Velvamangala's love. For the world grew so much. Now. There is no way any object. Like you. A laser beam. Towards any object. It will just burn it out. Similarly. When the love grows. And becomes finer. And stronger and powerful. No human being. No worldly object. Can ever withstand it. When a person develops. This kind of love. Greatly. Even though towards worldly objects. That person. Definitely will get the grace of God. And then he will move forward. God will come. In whatever form. And redirects it. This object cannot hold your love. Only I am capable of doing. Remember Ramanuja's disciple. Who fell into the trap of a. Similarly a public woman. Now. Turyananda is referring. To the story of Tulsi Dasa. He told the same story. He could not live. Tulsi Dasa could not live. Without his wife. Even for one single night. So one day she had to go. To some festival in her father's house. Which is only next village. 2-3 miles away. Tulsi Dasa came back home. And felt darkness all around him. It was night. Immediately started. And then he knocked at his wife's door. Similarly. And then she became disgusted and said. That if you had possessed. One hundredth of this love. You possess for this body. Great truth is there. Are you. Interested in the sweet. Or in the body of the sweet. Are you interested in the body of a human being. Or in the soul of the human being. Only the body. And body is filthy. Slight injury. Rots smelling. Like anything in this world. Even the greatest poison. 3 days you keep outside. And it will be intolerable. Like that this body smells. Don't take bath. Don't wash your mouth. Don't change your cloths. You will see how it affects us. So all these are great lessons. Tulsi Dasa became awakened. And then. That moment he renounced. But his renunciation. As the legend goes. Was not complete. He became a monk. He moved to another village. And he started begging food. And thinking of Rama. Marvelous story. When occasion comes we will continue it. But here this much is important. So one day he went out. Many years after he took Sanyasa. And then he stood in front of a house. And said. And a house lady came out. And gave him. Some bland food. Without any salt. Without any masala. And she told him. She recognized him. Because she was the wife of Tulsi Dasa. But he did not recognize her. So she told him. She knew that Tulsi Dasa was very fond of. Adding pickles, spices etc. He told him. So sir. This is bland food. I only live on this food. But if you want. I can give you some pickles etc. Then he said no no no. You don't need to give me. I keep these pickles etc. In my room. Then immediately. She gave a second upadesham. So if you have to store. Pickles etc. Even in this ashram. Why did you renounce the home. That awakened. So to say. Tulsi Dasa second time. And then he recognized her. Again he saluted her. And then he went back. We don't know what happened. But we know this much. That Tulsi Dasa had really. Progressed in spiritual life. And he was one of the greatest souls. Rama himself. Commanded him. Write my story. Ramayana. But in the local. Awadhi language. And today I have to say. It is even much more beautiful. Than Valmiki Ramayana. Than even Yoga Vasishta Ramayana. Why do I say so? Because. First of all the language. Of course every Indian will not understand it. But Rama commanded. That you propagate it. In the language local people speak. They should be able to understand. Until that time. Pandits were cheating them. And they have to depend upon. Some Sanskrit Pandit. But Tulsi Dasa. Made it in the local language. This conflict is going on. Even in the Catholic Church. So many countries. We don't understand Latin. We don't understand Greek. We only know the local language. Most of them. Not priests. So that the local people. Can understand. What we are chanting. What we are talking about. There was a great commotion. Many authorities. It is our tradition. Orthodoxy. Like our Pujaris. But then finally. The Pope has given. No point in chanting in Sanskrit. Or anywhere. Whatever the local people understand. Their devotion will increase. And that is what being said. But even today unfortunately. In our temples etc. In Sanskrit. Droning and droning and droning. Is going to happen. But great change had come. And that book. Has become universally popular. It is called. Rama Charita Manas. Manas means Manas Sarovara. You get all sorts of. Gems there. But this Rama Charita. Is you have to. Make your mind into that ocean. You have to churn that ocean. And that ocean is called Rama. Rama Sagara. Rama Samudra. And then if you do it. Gnana will come. Bhakti will come. Karma will come. Yoga will come. Everything will come out. Marvellous stories. Whenever we have this opportunity. Om Jananim Sharadam Devem. Ramakrishnam Jagat Kurum. Padapatmetayoh Shritva. Pranamame Moho Moho. May. The Ramakrishna Holy Mother. And Swami Vivekananda. Bless us all with Bhakti. Ramakrishna.
