Om Jananim Sharadam Devim Ramakrishnam Jagat Gurum Pada Padme Tayo Sritva Pranamami Mohor Moho For the last few classes, we have been talking exclusively on faith, progress in spiritual life means progress in faith. Why do we say so? The logic is, faith is nothing but indirect knowledge. If I see something directly, it is called direct knowledge, pratyaksha jnanam. But if someone tells me, someone whom I believe, and if that person tells only truth, then I believe him, even though I haven't seen that one. But as if I have seen, as if I know it is true, my whole behavior will change. That is the important point. Faith means, I quoted the story of Kanakadasa in my last class. So he was seeing God. God seeing everything, everywhere. So he could not eat his banana only because of that. And that is the reason why his Guru appreciated him, and the other disciples, they became jealous in effect. So that is what we are talking about here, faith. Faith means knowledge, not pratyaksha jnanam, but paroksha jnanam, not aparoksha jnanam. And that is what we, the more we develop, and the more that knowledge will take us towards God. In fact, knowledge alone can take us to God, because all our behavior, our thinking, our action, our reaction, our speech, everything depends upon this knowledge. That is why Shri Ramakrishna talks so much about faith, and one of the disciples, lay disciples of Shri Ramakrishna, who was called Girish Chandra Ghosh, Shri Ramakrishna used to appreciate him. 125% of faith he has got. Faith means he believed whatever Shri Ramakrishna does is absolute truth. And that is the faith we have to develop 100%. Guru Shastra Vakyeshu, Satya Buddhi Avadharana, Yaya Astu Upalabhyate, Sa Katita Shraddha, Yaya Astu Upalabhyate. This was the most marvellous definition given by Shankaracharya in his most marvellous book, Vivekachudamani, even at the very beginning chapter itself, defining terms. By the way, all the wonderful terms, what is Vastu, what is Nitya, what is Viveka, Vairagya, Shamadama, Shatkasampatti, Mumukshottam, all these are so beautifully, precisely defined by him. We do not get it anywhere else in this world at all. So this is what we are talking about. I will just recapitulate. After hearing that those who have no faith have no hope, a devotee was asking, Sir, is there no help then for such a worldly person? Master, certainly there is. From time to time he should live in the company of holy men and from time to time he should go into solitude to meditate on God. Furthermore, he should practice discrimination and pray to God, give me faith and devotion. Once a person has faith, he has achieved everything. There is nothing greater than faith. These are words of invaluable help to all of us. And that is the truth. Lord Ramakrishna addressing Kedar, you must have heard about the tremendous power of faith. It is said in the Purana that Rama, who was God himself, the embodiment of absolute Brahman, had to build a bridge to cross the sea to Ceylon. But Hanuman, trusting in Rama's name, cleared the sea in one jump and reached the other side. He had no need of a bridge. All people laughed. Once a man was about to cross the sea. This is another beautiful story of Sri Ramakrishna illustrating the power, faith or lack of it. Once a man was about to cross the sea. Vibheshana wrote Rama's name on a leaf, tied it in a corner of the man's wearing cloth and said to him, don't be afraid. Have faith and walk on the water. But look here, the moment you lose faith, you will be drowned. The man was walking easily on the water. Suddenly he had an intense desire to see what was tied in his cloth. He opened it and found only a leaf with the name of Rama written on it. What is this, he thought. With the name of Rama, as soon as doubt entered his mind, he sank under the water. That is, we are like that person. And what is this Sri Lanka? You know, I mentioned in my previous talks the inner symbolism of Ramayana. What is the symbolism? So Ramanasura came and captured Sita Devi and Sri Rama went in search of it. And then Hanuman was sent. That is why in South Indian tradition, Hanuman is considered as a Mukhya Prana. So he crossed over the sea and went to Sri Lanka, Ramana's place. Sri Lanka means, you should not mistake it, the Sri Lanka that we are facing now. These are all inner symbolism, we have to understand. In this symbolism, Ramanasura is the Maya, Sita Devi is the Jeeva, Sri Ramachandra is the Paramatma, Hanuman is the Guru, and Sita Devi was overcome by Maya. She was captured by Maya. In fact, Lakshmana wanted to save her. So as you know Ramayana, Sita Devi is a very interesting episode from a human point of view. In her blindness, she accused Lakshmana that your eyes are on my body, you want to make me your own, your devotion to Rama is fake, you are waiting for the death of Rama so that I can become yours. Of course, Lakshmana, he could not hold back his tears. He never looked upon Sita Devi, excepting as he looked upon his own mother. But such was the Maya. When Maya comes, we abuse, accuse, and we misbehave with our parents, with our Gurus, with our spiritual teachers, of course with God, of course with our own real Self. This is called Prajna Aparadham. If any man becomes unspiritual, he is committing the greatest sin. This is called Prajna Aparadham. Coming back to this story, Sita realized her mistake, was praying longingly for union so that she could be with Paramatma, which is from where she came and where we all have to go also. Paramatma understood that this was a mistake committed because of Maya and immediately He sends Hanuman and Hanuman crosses over and conveys. Hanuman in this instance is called Mukhya Prana or Guru, what we call Guru, Paramaguru. And Guru is the messenger of God. So Hanuman conveyed the message, do not worry, do not sorrow, soon Paramatma will come and release you. Coming back, when Sita accused Lakshmana, Lakshmana had no option but to go out. But before going out, he drew a circle around the hut in which Sita Devi, Sita Rama were staying and he cautioned her, do not cross this line, then nobody can harm you. And then he went away. Then Ramanasura came in the form of a monk, very strange, and demanded alms. And Sita Devi invited him because this is Arya Dharma, Hindu's duty, that Atidhi Devo Bhava, especially spiritual people. But Ramanasura cannot come. Do you know why? Because that Lakshmana Rekha is called Dharma. And Ramanasura's whole intention is Adharma. Adharma can never enter into the realm of Dharma. Neither Dharma can enter into the realm of Adharma. But when this fake monk demanded alms, Sita Devi decided to do the Adharmic work and immediately, of course, captured. The entire Ramayanam, this is from the Adhyatmika angle, is a great eye-opener for all of us. That is to say, until we get out of Adharma, that is non-Vedic or Vedic prohibited, forbidden actions, there is no hope for us even to step out of Samsara. So Sita Devi did that. Anyway, then Rama went in search. Then Hanuman had to build a bridge, bridge between God and man. And he who builds a bridge, that means he who connects Jivatma with Paramatma through the sweet message that you belong to Paramatma and Paramatma also gets a message. Don't forget, you have got a devotee there. He or she is none other than your own Amsha, a small particle. And that is how Guru brings both of them together. And if we can realize, we will remain forever with the Paramatma. That is the story. That is what Sri Ramakrishna is referring here. That if Hanuman himself had so much faith, faith means, it is not Paroksha Gnanam. But for a Guru, it is a Paroksha Gnanam. What is it? Rama and Ramanama, both are one and the same, to demonstrate the power of Ramanama. Why? For most people, Rama, the concept of God, is far away. But the name of God is very easy. Guru gives us the mantra, which is the name of God, either with form or without form. Even if somebody is initiated with the Hari Om, that is also, or Om Tat Sat, or merely Om. It is also nothing but Omkara is the appropriate name of God. But the concept is formlessness. Whereas if we say, if we receive Rama's name, Krishna's name, Ramakrishna's name, then it becomes form. Not that God has form, but that is a kind of bridge for us to think of, to contemplate, because our minds are so low. As we progress in spiritual life, slowly the form disappears into the Nama. The Nama disappears into formlessness. That is why the mantra disappears into the Bija mantra. And then the Bija itself is the subtlest manifestation of what is possible for the mind to think about, called Vritti, Omkara Vritti. This is the philosophy. This is what Sri Ramakrishna was referring here, that Hanuman, even though Rama himself was Paramatma, Hanuman was referring, Hanuman the greatest devotee, he had so much more faith. And there is also, I mentioned many times, a marvellous song in Kannada, Nin Yaako Ninna Hangi Yaako Ninna Nama Undhu Iddhare Saako I don't want you. I don't want your anything. If I have your name, that is more than enough for me. When Draupadi called Krishna, when Prahlada cried out Narayana, and then the Lord himself had come down, that is the power of the Nama, whether it is Rama Nama, Krishna Nama, Omkara Nama, whatever Nama. And the second story Sri Ramakrishna was referring, so after the death of Ramanasura, Krishna had coronated his spiritual brother, younger brother, Vibhishana, as the king. And once it seems, long after Rama and everybody had passed away, and by the way, Vibhishana is considered as one of the Chiranjeevis, even now living. So this Sri Lanka, as I mentioned earlier, is the Maya Rajya, nothing to do with the geographical Sri Lanka. So a man, a shipwrecked, and he reached Sri Lanka. And the Rakshasas, after a long time, they found out this human being, and their tongues started watering, mouth started watering, delicious Rasogulla. But then there was a commandment, if any human being comes, he should be taken to Vibhishana. Vibhishana kept him with him for the whole night. Next morning he said, you better run away, I am able to protect you longer than this, and don't worry, I am tying something to your body, and you can just walk across this ocean. Safely you will reach Manushya Loka. So the man was very happy to escape from that Rakshasa hidden place. Happily he was walking, and suddenly he had a doubt, what is that such a miraculous thing? Vibhishana tied around my waist, because I am able to walk, this is one of the Siddhis. So he opened, what did he find? The name of Rama. How did Hanuman build the bridge? Only by writing the name of Rama on every piece of mountain. He found, and then he lost his faith. Oh, only this? Because he had no faith. Vibhishana had faith, but this man had no faith. Immediately he sank. What is the symbolism? This ocean is the ocean of Samsara. The name of God is the raft, is the ship, is the boat, which can take us across from the Maya Rajya to the Parameshwara Rajya, Paramatma Rajya. And the Guru is one who ties that mantra in our heart. We are supposed to have faith in it, and we lose our faith. And the moment we lose our faith, we sink deeper into the Maira of Samsara. That is the symbolism. So we should have faith. But one thing, we have to be cautious when we judge everything. My Guru has given me God's name, and from now onwards, God will protect me, and I can do whatever I like. And Guru has bound God so that God is a slave of my Guru. And my Guru commanded God to protect me all the time like a bodyguard. I can do whatever nonsense I like to do, and God will save me. This is a complete misunderstanding of the entire scripture, whatever be the scripture. What is necessary? That hint has been given to us at the very end of the Bhagavad Gita. If you have studied Bhagavad Gita, you don't need to remember everything, but remember two things. That will do. The only way to realize God, the only way to get rid of all limitations, the only way to cross over every suffering is to take complete refuge in God. शर्णगति सर्वधर्मान् परित्यज्या मामेकं शर्णम्रज्य अहम् त्वा सर्वपापे भ्यो मोक्षयिश्यामि माशुचः सर्वधर्मान् परित्यज्या It's a marvelous shloka. Give up every dharma. Does it mean that you should become completely adharmic? That is not what is meant. You must be all dharmic, but don't rely upon karma, upon yoga, upon dhyana, upon even samadhi. Even a man of samadhi can be made to be a man of unsamadhi, non-samadhi by the mere wish of Jagadamba, the Divine Mother. And that's what had happened to the Advaita Guru of Sri Ramakrishna Totapuri. In fact, that's what had happened to Shankaracharya, who was preening himself that I am a brahmajnani. And as we know that story, I am only reminding, hopefully you will remember that when Shankaracharya was moving about in Varanasi, he was walking on a very narrow path where only one man can pass. Suddenly, he saw an outcast with four dogs coming from the opposite side. And then, instinctively, involuntarily, unconsciously, a word came out. Dhoram apasara re chandala. Hey, outcast, get the hell out of my place. I will become impure. How can a pure person become impure? How can, of all the persons, a man of knowledge, self-knowledge, atmajnani, brahmajnani, can anything contaminate akasha? Can anything contaminate air? So, what happened to Shankaracharya, all that wisdom, if he was a real brahmajnani? Then the chandala, appropriately, he has replied, Sir, about whom are you talking? If you are looking upon me as a man of flesh and blood, that means you are also looking upon yourself as a man of flesh and blood, because who can see the other human body? Only one human body can see the other human body. A man who knows I am the spirit will see everybody is a spirit. We see everybody as we are. This is the most marvellous psychological law. What does it mean? It means if I find fault with somebody, that means that somebody seeing fault in him is possible only when I myself have got those faults within me. If I don't know what is called thieving, I will never be able to find out who is a thief, because to know who is a thief, I will have to have the knowledge of the thieving. So, Shankaracharya was addressed in harsh terms, perhaps, that awakening was necessary. Whom are you addressing? But if you are addressing the Atman, how many Atmans are there? And if there are two Atmans, then they must be limited, and they cannot pass through a narrow path. That is to say, two Atmans means two Anatmans. Two Anatmans means two bodies, two minds, two personalities. Because Atma is only one, there cannot be two Atmas. And then Shankara suddenly became what is called remembered. I am a man of knowledge. Why am I making this distinction? So, he understood. A man who could speak these words, he cannot be neither a Chandra, nor he must be only Shiva. No, Jeeva can speak like that. He must be Shiva only. That means, to see Shiva, he himself must have remembered, I am also Shiva. Shiva alone can see Shiva. Jeeva alone can see Jeeva. Even if Shiva comes across a Jeeva, Shiva doesn't see the Jeeva, but only himself. And when Jeeva comes across Paramatma, Shiva, he will see Shiva also as Jeeva, not as anybody else. This is our pitiable condition. So, these are the things we have to remember. Sarva Dharmaan Parityajya means what? Not giving up righteous life, but giving up dependency upon anything the Divine Mother can make or unmake. Some people, Oh Mother, you can make them Brahma Jnanis. And the same some people, you can make also un-Brahma Jnanis. Not some other people. She can give Brahma Jnana. She can take away that Brahma Jnana, if it is necessary. So, that is why, depend solely upon God, upon Sharanagati. If we have learnt this essence, we have learnt 50% of the essence of Bhagavad Gita, which means the essence of all scriptures. Okay. Then we have to talk about second point. What is it? Where there is a combination, the receiver and the giver. If there is no giver, the receiver cannot receive. If there is no receiver, the giver also cannot give. Where there is Paramatma, Krishna, Yogeshwaraha, Yogeshwaraha, Paramatma, and where there is the Sadhaka, what does it mean? Where there is grace of God combined with self-effort, Purushartha, Tatra. Only when these two come together, then there is victory, there is Dharma, there is name and fame, there is prosperity. In fact, there is everything that is positive. Ultimately, here we have to understand that Brahma Gnanam is possible only because of that. These two totally rely upon God because in the realm of Maya, Maya rules and the only thing that can deter Maya Lesson Maya is only the will of God. Daiviyesha Mama Maya So, Bhagavan Himself says in the Bhagavad Gita and this is Trigunatmika Gunamayi Mama Maya My Maya Duratyaya Nobody can cross. Not difficult to cross. That is the literal meaning. No, nobody can cross. But, how to cross? Mameva Mameva E Prapadyante Mayam Etam Tarantate Those who take refuge in Me. Means what? Simply not mouthing the words I take refuge in you and at times we tell. No. That means I will do what God wants me to do. I will refrain from what God wants me to refrain from. This Vidhi and Nishedha that alone will indicate whether we are really taking refuge in God or taking refuge in lame excuses or taking refuge in deceit and hypocrisy. That is what we need to crystal clearly understand. Without this understanding even the beginning of spiritual life will not work. I would even go so far as to say not only spiritual life. Do you want to become a great scientist? A great musician? A great cook? A great sweeper? A great anything? Then you will have to have the tremendous desire and tremendous respect. A sweeper when he does the best job of sweeping he is the greatest yogi that is available. Because God does not see whether there is no caste in the eyes of God. Each soul is potentially divine. This is the essence of Bhagavad Gita we are talking about. Now this man he lost faith. That means even though Vibhishana acted like a guru and the man was walking nicely just like marriage. Few days after marriage, honeymoon and everything goes very nicely. But after some time slowly the differences emerge and then different ideas greed, anger, lust, malice, pride, jealousy everything slowly will surface and that is the problem we are swimming in the ocean of samsara transmigration again and again and again. We should never lose faith. So everyday we have to pray Oh Lord, please let me never lose faith. So a man of faith when he encounters problems, sorrows, sufferings, what would be his thinking? He would not think God doesn't exist my guru is false he gave me some fellow's name and like that. No. He will think that God is doing the right thing. Perhaps I deserve it. I don't know what I have done in my past life or even if I have not done anything in the past life, this is most beneficial for me in this life. So this is how he will have to think. His whole thinking has to change. This is what modern psychology is called CBT Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is one of the best therapies that came out of for the last 20 to 30 years from out of psychology. This is called practical psychology. What does it mean? Simply we have no control over what happens from outside. But to a great extent we can train ourselves to control ourselves by controlling our thoughts by taking everything positively and by reacting very positively and very soon we find that it is most marvelous thing in this world. So this we are all walking and we are most of us are fortunate to get the name of God and we are walking. We should never doubt about it. The moment doubt comes then you take the in Bhagavad Gita also it says Chitvainam samshayam Aatishta uttishta Bharatha Whenever doubt comes immediately take up the sword of prayer and cut that doubt and destroy it completely. If we do not destroy doubts doubt will destroy us. So just in the name of Rama what is this? As soon as doubt entered his mind he sank under the water. That's why Thakur is also repeating because he was Krishna. He gave the same teaching and Krishna said in Bhagavad Gita I have taught this to Manu who was 10,000 years before and then in what form Krishna must be having maybe some XYZ name and then Manu must have, Manu like Arjuna Manu must have come across that XYZ and then Manu must have asked Lord how can I overcome this and then that XYZ he says I taught this 10,000 years back to another Manu and it is the same question if the question is the same the answer is also exactly the same. This is a very wonderful thing. If it is the same question the answer will not differ even in billions and trillions of years. So Ramakrishna is telling if a man has faith in God even if he has committed the most heinous sins such as killing a cow, a Brahmin or a woman he will certainly be saved through his faith. Let him only say to God Oh Lord I will not repeat such an action and he need not be afraid of anything. This is a passage a shloka bodily lifted from the Bhagavad Gita. Apichet Sudracharo even if somebody is worst of the sinners if he turns towards me accepts that he had committed lot of sins what the condition is here Oh Lord I will not repeat it. Turning towards God means I will never do such a thing again. This is a promise to God on the part of the Sadhaka. Then what does he say Shashvat Chyantim Nigachyati Kaunteya Patiyanihi Nameya Bhaktaha Pranasyati This person has resolved rightly what was the resolution never again I have committed that's why this is my condition but I will never again do it. This is my promise and what is Sadhana not to do what we have been doing throughout from the beginning of our journey since 84 lakhs of births then what are we doing we will do what need to be done, what should be done what has been commanded by the God and this is what is called Vidhi, the commandments of the Divine Lord. So these are the two conditions turn towards God and resolve that I will never again do repeat. We should never forget this that means everyone of us have got hopes whatever has happened in the past from this millisecond onwards Oh Lord I have done so many things which should not be done now I will not repeat but we have to be careful about this. The moment the person thinks to himself I promise you I will not repeat these things that these tendencies will disappear in a trice instantaneously he will find himself a great saint. That's not going to happen each step by step we have to struggle this was what Holy Mother was telling to somebody who must have asked that question My son supposing you wound up different coloured threads and made a huge ball and now suddenly you required one particular coloured thread which is there wounded wound round in the middle of that big ball now if you want that one you will have to unwound unwrap entire ball until you come to that particular thread that you urgently required similarly all the samskaras what is called worldly samskaras even so called not doing anything wrong but not doing anything good is also very bad samskara because everybody must do only good vidhi nishedha is there the commandments otherwise if I don't do anything the result is I will not get anything do something bad you get bad result, do something good you get good result, do nothing you will not get that is why dharmakshetra kurukshetra this life is compared to a dharmakshetra and that means it will yield exactly the result appropriate to our hard work, whatever we sow that we reap but it is called kurukshetra kuru means it is a field of action something has to be done but that something should be vidhi and nishedha why is it nishedha, don't do this is called hard work because to refrain ourselves from doing something which is forbidden requires more effort until we become accustomed to do that in the beginning so also what we are forced to do what is good that also requires effort, so to do good also requires effort and to refrain from what is evil also requires tremendous amount of effort this is very important for us to understand this is what is meant yatra yogeshwar where krishna mourns grace of god and where arjuna and partha, dhanur dharah means self effort always is ready to do the bidding of the master when these, master means scriptures here, when both these are combined together then only srihi vijayah bhutih, dhruvah, neetih matih, mama success is possible so we have to understand these deeper truths when the master had said this, he sang these are beautiful songs this gospel is full of that marvelous songs, in between his teachings, sri ram krishna intersperses his teachings, marvelous songs and this is a song about faith in the name of god if only i can pass away repeating durga's name how canst thou then, oh blessed one, withhold from me deliverance, wretched though i may be i may have stolen a drink of wine or killed a child unborn or slain a woman or a cow or even caused a brahmin's death these words are not simply poetical words in our ancient scriptures it is said the greatest sin is killing an unborn child called bhrona hathya drinking who can do that so only after drinking a person loses all his wits, common sense and he will do anything he likes or killing a woman, killing a cow, a cow is the most sacred animal it is compared to a mahalakshmi, that is why if you go in south indian temples the very first thing before worship of god is worship of a cow but and then the worst type of sin is causing a brahmin's death brahmana, a cow a woman, an unborn baby and drinking etc these are some of the worst things anybody can do but supposing somebody has faith in the god's name he did it in the past he will never do it now nobody will say, nobody should say could say that i will kill a brahmana but i have faith in your name and then i will cross over this sea of papa, papa samudra that is not going to happen such a person will not have that faith but though all this be true, nothing of this can make me feel the least uneasiness, i am not going to be unhappy, for through the power of the sweet name my wretched soul may still aspire even to brahmanhood that is to say even the worst sin also is absolutely nothing i want to insert a few remarks about it so ordinary people, rational so called rational people they say sir if somebody had committed these sins, this person is certainly a sinner, will he be punished? yes, he will be punished but the samskara will be destroyed by the faith in god's name so he will never do it again in the future but whatever prarabdha karma that we have to pay but the most important thing for us to understand is logic cannot really explain these things so if somebody says, first prove to me that god exists then i will believe in him a stupid type of statement because if i can see god, i don't need faith anymore, seeing means it is prateksha jnanam, only when we don't see but still we believe and in day to day life we are doing it all the time i will give you some examples nobody will drink potassium cyanide because he knows even though it is not his experience because if he drank it we would others would be able to say that this person has taken potassium cyanide suppose you are walking in the street and suddenly a car is coming with great speed towards you you won't say i will walk across the road nothing is going to happen to me, your rationality will work, whether your faith, let me see whether it will kill me or not and after that i will believe you will not stop to think every time you take a medicine prescribed by your physician you are having only faith every time you step into a taxi, into a train, into a plane you are placing complete faith in the driver, in the pilot in the train driver every time every next millisecond i am planning today i will spend like that and after a week i will go for on holidays and after retirement i will do these things, we have a right to do, to think like that but next millisecond i am going to be alive is only completely uncertain, i do not know, just look at newspapers, look at the present war that is going on every day the soldiers who are fighting they know that we can die but everybody believes death is going to come to some people not to me this is the strangest power of maya that i may die that conviction will not come others may die only when they die then others will know oh i knew i am not going to die, this other people are going to die, it is proved by the death of other people it is proved by my not dying, this is called the power of maha maya so this is what is telling even a person can claim brahman hood but the condition is complete refuse in the divine lord second i will never again do anything bad which is equivalent to saying i will do everything that is possible, that is good for the other people with this some for the present, we talk about faith has come to an end then Ram Krishna was there, M was there, i think this was the third visit then Narendra was present, pointing to Narendra the master said you all see this boy he behaves that way here a naughty boy seems very gentle when his father was present but he is quite another person when he plays in the chandni, that is to say there are certain people Ram Krishna is now going to talk about certain people there are four types of people are there, we have seen earlier, Ram Krishna gives a beautiful parable of a man fishing he goes to the fishing pond and then he throws the bait, some fish are never caught, some fish are caught among those which are caught there are three varieties are there so one type of fish immediately makes the utmost effort and then becomes free of the net, jumps with greatest haste into the water and the fisherman says there a big fish has escaped there are second type of fish which will be struggling and struggling but not possible for it to escape but there is a third type of fish most foolish fish it goes deep down into the mud, the very bottom of the net and closes its eyes like an ostrich burying its head in a sand so like that we are completely safe here as nothing happens but they do not know soon the fisherman will be pulling the net and along with that net both the struggling and those who have gone to the bottom will be caught, everyday we are seeing this one Sri Ramakrishna divided every human being into these four categories and if you have to assign percentage calculation 99% are like that fourth type of fish think nothing is going to happen, will be living a long time and maybe after 500 years science will discover how to rejuvenate me and then he will donate 30 million or 50 million to preserve his genes so that after 500 years or so the scientists will be able to bring him back to the life that he was now only one problem is there problem is if he was a miserable fellow until his death, he will continue to be miserable only second he must understand the whole world since his time has changed many times over the world will not recognize him and he also will not be able to recognize the world and one of the criteria for a peaceful living is to know where we are living, accept the fact and live like others when we are thrown into a completely different world different culture, different environment, we will be like fish out of water, very soon we prefer death than actually living so now pointing Ram Krishna is telling there are some people like these four types of fish who are the people? Nitya Siddhas some people are never caught Nitya Siddha means Nitya Muktas, they are ever free and what is the second type? there are people who are very alert they have been doing sadhana for many lives and the moment any maya situation comes, confronts them immediately they understand they can recognize this is maya and immediately they jump out of that situation and such people will not be caught even though they have not attained perfection, this is what we call they will be soon attaining mukti and forever they will be free whereas the Nitya Muktas they are free forever but at the same time occasionally they will be reborn as human beings, behave like human beings, behave as though they are caught in the meshes of the net of samsara but a little bit of effort will remind them who they really are jyotvat prasadat smritir labdha a very little effort why are they born then? because to do good to people like us that is why I mentioned many times there are two types of births karma janma and karana janma karma janma means we are all born because of our purva janma karma karana janma means these Nitya Muktas includes even the incarnation of God, they will be coming occasionally donning the dress of this ordinary human personality so that they can set up an ideal for each one of us so the second type of fish is there in the mayic situation but they are alert as soon as the net of maya comes in the form of temptations of the five indriyas, remember five indriyas are the greatest temptations there are also temptations exclusively belonging to the mind, name and fame, power and position but they are also supported based upon the body, if there is no body, who will know this particular person, this particular photograph this particular painting is that great person who did a lot of good to everybody, who is going to know about it, again the body reference comes and then with those who are thirsting for power and position what again that I will be having greater opportunity to earn more money, more wealth more property by hook or crook, we see everyday newspaper, somebody or other whom we think that very respectable is exposed every time by the tax people, by some police, by other people now the bubbles are burst, that is why we say that in our language there is a theft and immoral life cannot be hidden for long, sooner or later, however much the man wants to hide or woman wants to hide, it will come out sooner or later, so this is the second type of person third type of person is they are struggling, they have not succeeded, in this birth they would not, but in future births they are progressing slowly they will and there are some people who will not struggle for a long time not that they will be eternally there, soon their own suffering will drive them towards this position this is the essence of what he was trying to tell Swami Vekananda, Swami Brahmananda, Swami Yogananda Swami Niranjanananda and Poornachandrakosha pointing to them he used to say these are Ishwarakotis with the arrival of Poorna my inner circle is complete and Swami Premananda, six people so pointing to Narendra the master said you all see this boy he behaves that way here means very nicely like a Bhakta a naughty boy seems very gentle when with his father who was the father here? Sri Ramakrishna but he is quite another person when he plays in the Chandini when the same Narendra goes out he will be like the full brilliant star and the other companions will be like dim stars if at all this is what Sri Ramakrishna is talking Nitya Siddhas Narendra and people of his type belong to the class of the ever free they are never entangled in the world when they grow a little older they feel the awakening of inner consciousness and go directly toward God they come to the world only to teach others they never care for anything of the world they are never attached to woman and gold then Ramakrishna gives a beautiful parable here so these people Narendra and others when we study their biographies we see that they sometimes lost faith sometimes they also behaved like worldly people as if they had desires some of them got married also so many things have happened how can we call such people Nitya Muktas this is why we can never understand these Nitya Muktas as if the surface is covered with mud but slight scratching of the surface immediately reveals the gold within this is what Sri Ramakrishna spoke about Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar so Narendra and the people of his type these are called Nitya Muktas Ishwarakotis the helpers in the mission of the incarnation of God belong to the class of the ever free they are never entangled in the world that is they may seem to be entangled but they are never because this is for the sake of Leela like a person, an actor is a rich person but he is acting like a poor beggar or a sane person he is acting like a madcap, this is only an acting when they grow a little older they feel the awakening of inner consciousness and go directly towards God they come to the world only to teach others this is a very important point first of all they are never entangled secondly as soon as the body and mind are ready immediately they will turn all their energies towards the realization of God and then their very purpose of taking birth they come to the world only to teach others they never care for anything of the world even though they seem to be doing this for some time and they are never attached to Kama and Kanchana we have to understand this very very clearly I will stop here because there are marvelous things that we will have to discuss about it slowly and slowly May Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda bless us all with Bhakti Jai Ramakrishna
