Om Jananem Sharadam Devem Ramakrishnam Jagadgurum Pada Padme Tayo Sridhva Pranamami Mohur Moho In our last class we have been discussing about Namo Upasana that is sadhana through the repetition of the Nama Upasana means that which takes us near to God Here Asana means Atman or personal God, Saguna Brahma Upa means near, that which takes us nearer to God Infinite paths are there which can do this But of all these the best one, best means you know Here we have to understand there is no comparative degree in the paths Every path is absolutely superior and valid But from what standpoint? From each one of our standpoint If I am following Namo Upasana because that is the best because my Guru told me that is the best If someone is practicing Aham Brahmasmi that is best only for that person There is no comparison at all So whatever takes us to God that is best Sri Ramakrishna had advised for this Kali Yuga the path shown by Narada And what is the most important essence of Narada's teachings? Only two, if I can summarize it that way First, take the name of God because God and His name are non-separate, inseparable Second, whatever obstructs which I come to know is not allowing me to progress fast or stands as a complete obstacle gradually make an effort to get rid of it, reduce it These are the essential points and I think these two points apply to everybody not only to Namo Upasana, Narada's teachings So now what we have to recollect from our last class is that this path of Namo Upasana progresses as a three-stepped ladder In other words, we progress in three stages What is the first stage? The mantra has to be repeated with effort with great self-effort, reminding ourselves and Japa appears to be mechanical but mechanical practice of Japa is the most suited one for the beginners In the second stage, the mantra bubbles up spontaneously from the depths of the heart at all times and the aspirant finds a part of his mind constantly listening to it The first stage is like cranking a car, self-starter but after that the engine takes over and all that we need to do is drive it This is a very apt analogy because as we drive a car or a plane or a train or any other vehicle, including walking if there is an obstacle, we have to overcome it If there is a shortcut, we have to take it The same thing applies here also We need not make effort to repeat God's name but we need to direct the name of the God or if there are any obstacles, we will have to remove them How do we know? Because progress always means there is a distance between us and God so we have to completely remove it but it may take a long time In the third stage, we have reached the goal The mantra becomes united with the eternal uncreated God or sound rhythm, which is also called Anahata Dvani and that is called self-realization Nama becomes one with the Nami, Namni with the name becomes one with the named That here also is very important, subtle point Who is the Nama here? The Jivatma is the Nama Why? Until this time the Jivatma is thinking that I am an individual self I am separate from God I am separate from the world I am separate from everything in this world but as the Nama takes over then the Jivatma feels I am the Nama I am not an individual I am a part of God I belong to God as a servant I belong to God as a friend I belong to God as a child is belonging to the father and mother So a child is much more nearer than a friend A friend is much more nearer than a servant but finally comes and there is absolutely no difference I am God God is me I am the lover God is the beloved God is the lover and I am the beloved Very interesting point Probably most of you must have understood by now Who loves first? Do we love God or does God love me or us? It is God who loves Not only in the philosophical sense, metaphorical sense but in a practical sense also What is metaphorical sense? God created us Why did he create? Because he wants to play with us who are none other than himself This is called Leela Always remember Leela means One playing with oneself is called Leela A child goes on playing by itself without depending upon the parents In the practical sense God loves us in the form of first our parents then our brothers and sisters then our children then our friends then our co-religionists etc. So this is also a very important part And in this Leela Enemies, troubles Enemies means trouble Trouble means suffering There is a great part because the more the suffering the more we want to run and jump into the lap of the mother So in the third stage Nama What did I say? Nama is none other than Jeevatma In the devotional path the name of God becomes one with God In the Jnana Marga the Jeevatma becomes one with the Paramatma It is a difference in the nomenclature and nothing else Then we also have discussed that taking name of God with simple faith of course but at the same time semi-conscious will not do What do I mean by semi-conscious? We can commit hundreds of crimes, sins against taking the name of God So what is the name? What does it mean? It means taking the name of God at the same time doing actions things which go against our progress in spiritual life That is called Nama Paratha A few we discussed in elaborately of all maybe more than 60 aparathas Only 10 aparathas we discussed What is it? The name or the mantra given to us by our Guru should never be considered as an ordinary name as an ordinary word It should be considered as the most sacred equivalent with God In Telugu, some time back a beautiful mythological film has come This was called Sri Krishna Tulabharam As we know Sri Krishna had many wives One wife was Satyabhama She was a little bit what we call beginner in devotion It is also a leela But Rukmini was Lakshmi herself So this Satyabhama wants to keep God all to herself Here is an interesting point Any worldly thing if we keep for ourselves others cannot have it If we have money we have possessions houses, cars, cloths books anything you call It is private The more we give away the less it will be But in the name of God you can give away as much as you want and still you can have as much as you have without losing anything In a jokular way this is called digital copying What does a Guru do? He possesses the divine name in the form of digital digital recording So what does he do? He gives a copy of it to everybody What is the speciality? So every digital copy will be equivalent in quality and quantity to the original copy So the Guru keeps the original copy and distributes any number of copies billions of copies and every copy will have its own equal original power a saving grace everything will be there What are we talking about? Gnana Gnana means right knowledge So a scientist will give that discovery 2 plus 2 is 4 You can keep it You can distribute it to any child You won't make it any less You have 100% So also any right Gnana or in fact wrong Gnana also any type of Gnana we can distribute it and yet we can have it 100% full Power of Nama will never become less even if it is distributed to billions and billions to infinite number of times So that is very important for us When a Nama becomes one with Namni or Nami a name becomes one with the named So by repeating we become one with that In our earlier talks we were talking about knowledge when Sri Ramakrishna asked what type of wife you have and at that time he didn't understand said she is a good woman but I am afraid she is not having knowledge that means she is not academically learned not literate and Sri Ramakrishna gives one of the most profound answers and you are a Gnani do you know real Gnana So what does Sri Ramakrishna mean? The only real knowledge is about the reality If I know about the reality what does it mean? I have the right knowledge What does it mean? It means reality is only one Ekam Sat If reality is one, who am I? I must be that reality Who are you? You must be that reality What is this tree? That must be the same reality So that is called right knowledge and in that respect I have elaborated a wonderful principle. This came in the context of one of the Upanishadic teachings, especially Taittiriya Upanishad second Valli called Ananda Valli, Brahma Valli Brahmananda Valli same names, Brahma with Aapnoti Param then Taittiriya Upanishad also Brahma with Brahmaiva Bhavati Brahma with a Naira Brahman Who is a Naira Brahman? A person who has knowledge of Brahman. This knowledge of Brahman, what does it do? It makes one Brahman. This applies not only to right knowledge, wrong knowledge also. Suppose somebody had hurt you and you became very angry because you felt that person had hurt you and that person hurting was a different action in your mind anger has risen because of some interpretation and that is also a thought in the mind but you are witnessing that thought you are witnessing that person speaking something you are witnessing that something your thought as a reaction to that experience but then very soon you have forgotten what was the knowledge? This person has insulted me. What was the reaction? I am very angry. That was a thought that thought of anger now become you instead of saying there is a thought of anger I am angry angry. So there is anger. I am angry previously only there was anger. Now I am angry. So this knowledge also made you what that knowledge is in fact we are behaving as we are behaving only because of our knowledge and we became one with that knowledge. What is that knowledge we are having right now? This world is real my body is real my mind is real and therefore we cannot escape reacting to everything that happens in this world if we do not have this understanding that my experience is real we would not behave like that. For example I gave this example many times you are watching say a young man is watching a movie and there he sees a beautiful lady. He doesn't go rush and try to embrace her why? Because he knows this is not real appearing but not real similarly if a thief is watching and there are heap of gold there he doesn't rush out elbowing others out because he knows this is only an appearance it's not real so that person knows this is unreal but if the person thinks this is real he will go and do something to that just as when we see a snake instead of seeing a rope in semi darkness we rush forward and we react towards it why do we react? Because a snake is real but when light is brought and then we come to know it is the rope immediately we say oh I had wrong knowledge so until we have right knowledge whatever knowledge we have that is called right knowledge so what is the difference then wrong knowledge sooner or later will become changed will become what we call sublated replaced by right knowledge but right knowledge can never be replaced so these two points you keep that whatever knowledge we have and we believe that is the right knowledge and we have to believe it is the right knowledge until we have the right knowledge and how do we know it is right knowledge because right knowledge itself will tell us that I am the right knowledge whereas wrong knowledge will never tell us that I am the right knowledge but we believe that it is the right knowledge so in Vedanta we give an example to make this point very distinct when there is darkness if somebody thinks this is light then he will be wrong but when the sun rises looking at the sun nobody will ask is the sun risen, is it daylight because the rise of the sun not only it lights up everything but before it does it it illumines itself and says I am light, you don't need another light to know that this is a light whereas everything in this world requires a light to be seen, light itself doesn't need anything even if you put on, switch on ordinary bulb also that is the same thing is there so what are the two points until we have right knowledge we will not know that what we have is wrong knowledge so spiritual progress is as much as we progress there would be a change in our understanding also, in our knowledge also and how does it proceed as supposing here is a spiritual aspirant until this time he was a worldly person and he went on thinking that this world is real then suddenly by the grace of the Guru which is none other than the grace of God and by the grace of the scriptures which alone the Guru teaches really, interprets really he doesn't say anything new he only takes the scriptures and interprets it in the right way suitable for that particular disciple or student or learner then we understand one thing, we have not understood about the Atman, it will take a long time but we understand until now whatever understanding I have of the world is not right, I thought the world is real so real and permanent there is a lot of differences there so something can appear and yet not be real, so a movie you cannot say it is unreal, you can't even say it is real because so long as it appears we are experiencing it, it is only a foolish fellow who can deny it so this is the truth about the world what is the world? everything changes and that is the first step in spiritual progress that is a great knowledge we have not yet got the real knowledge of God but we have got, we are in the right direction that everything in this world is changing and what does it mean? it means my parents will not be there my children may not be there myself may not be there my house may not be there my position my job my bank balance everything in this world is changing ultimately life is changing into death but death also is changing into life, happiness changes into unhappiness good changes into evil even now we have not gotten rid of this right understanding of dualities so we think slowly that the evil will slowly disappear and only good will come and why am I referring to particularly in the present circumstances how history is unfolding for example in Kabul most of us we think that something radically evil is taking place there but we wish all these people will change and there will be like democratic country and everything will be ruled by the democracy etc as if every democratic country is progressing towards God as if there is no evil in the democratic democratically ruled countries in fact I think on the contrary there is much more evil going on in the name of democracy in democratic countries than in these so called religiously ruled countries, extremists fundamentalists religious fanatics whatever name you call it whatever name you call it but remember this knowledge of these people who gave them? it is the Divine Mother some people you will give elevate to the position of a God Brahma and some people you push them down so who made me and you? who made these people so good and evil? what am I talking about? you should never forget the salient point the most important point is there will always be good and evil in this world and how much? don't be under any delusion, illusion that it will be 50-50 what do I mean? one horse versus one rabbit, goodness will be one horse and evil will be one rabbit or evil will be one horse and goodness will be one rabbit, apparently it looks like that, we have to get rid of all these ideas to become a little more understanding the scriptures the scriptures tell us where there is good there will be evil where there is happiness there will be unhappiness, where there is cold there will be heat at different times not at the same time not in the same person at the same time but at different persons and from the view point of the Vedanta we are all asuras, so what is the second point? Nama is the knowledge what is the knowledge? this is name of God and name of God is not different from God this knowledge will slowly take us to God but I am Jeeva, that is also knowledge so this knowledge will change permanently it will be destroyed Jeevatma will become one with Parmatma so the name slowly makes us that I am a devotee of God that means I belong to God that means I have a relationship with God that means I possess the same nature, same divinity as God and that slowly takes us towards God, for that first we have to repeat God's name with as if blind faith mechanically observing certain rules and regulations and then the second stage will be that we acquire a taste for it just as we acquire a taste for anything, some people love dry fish shutkim as they call it for some other people it is the most horrendous food but for some people it is the most wonderful food if I go on telling like this you will be wondering whether it is gospel or something else, I am telling because we are all creatures of habit, so there are also crocodiles who live in the most unhealthy environment, for whom? for us what about the crocodiles? that is the most healthy environment so far as crocodiles are concerned all the worms all the, what is called rats, mice they all live on this rotten food rotten food for whom? for us, but for them it is the most sacred food sustaining their life and activities and if without them we would never be able to live in this world, I am repeating without snakes without mice, without worms, without so many creeping, crawling, flying creatures etc life, the world will not be what it is, this is called holistic attitude so what are we talking about? without evil people nobody will become a spiritual person this is one big pill to swallow and that is what we have to swallow so what does God's grace do? that it makes us repeat God's name and what does this God do? name do? name is the very power of God name is the name of God it has tremendous power so what does this name do? this name uses that very evil converts it into the most tremendous positive spiritual force and then takes us quickly to God, so the name itself will convert all this suffering all this evil etc into the greatest love longing for God this is a tremendous fact and today we discussed some of these most important points and I am talking all about how our mind really, our psychology really works about so in the third stage the name itself becomes the named, that means we become one with God first we go on repeating God's name, it will be separate from us, slowly we become the name and since the name and named are separate or not separate, one day will come when Vasudevaha Sarvamithi that Jnana will come after many births Bahunam Janmanamante Jnanavanmam Prapadyate Vasudevaha Sarvamithi Samahatma Sudurlavaha, so this is what it is, now I have to give you some examples so Namaparatha name is an ordinary word, it doesn't have any power and then if somebody else is repeating some other name other than what I am repeating looking down upon that name, this is what is all the differences in religion is about, you are not taking the name of Jesus, you are not taking the name of Allah etc, whether you call it Allah, whether you call it Rama, so Ram Rahim, everything is one I hope you have heard this song and Swami Vivekananda was very fond of this song who made a Hindu? God only who made a Muslim? who made a Muslim? God only made a Muslim, a Christian a Buddhist, who made an Astika? God who made an Astika? Only God everything is made by only God, if you don't understand this, you are repeating God's name practically in vain because the name which you are uttering thou shalt not take God's name in vain now I should give you some wonderful examples and the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ramakrishna says that if anybody committed any sins against Nama by looking down upon it as an ordinary word and Guru as an ordinary person, scripture as an ordinary book and God as an ordinary being etc that is a Nama Paratha how to get rid of the sin? well, there is no other remedy for it excepting repeat God's name with a yearning heart and say O Lord I do not understand so O Nama O name, O mantra you please pardon me purify me, uplift me, the name itself is the best atonement for sins committed against the name, through constant kirtan of the name all our desires also can be fulfilled, any desire can be fulfilled I will give you some examples advice of Adhutanandaji to a devotee Swami Adhutanandaji had shifted his residence from Calcutta to Varanasi one day a poor young man came to him and he was hoping here is a sadhu and if he gives me a mantra I will be becoming a rich man the person's desire is not to become a devotee but to become rich so Adhutanandaji he said to the young man look here, can you do one thing, you want to become rich I will tell you how you can become rich everyday go to the Ganges early in the morning take bath in the Ganga and plume the mud of the Ganga and your body sit there and go on repeating the name of Lord Shiva everyday and you will see God will make you very rich of course I think how many times a day 100,000, 1 lakh times of course the young man was expecting a quick remedy you just repeat this mantra once or twice and immediately money will pour from heaven of course that did not happen and the devotee went away so is it true? yes, one devotee started coming to Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Ramakrishna knew he can look into the inside of people like we can look what things are there inside a glass almirah so he asked after few days, young man you have been visiting me what do you want? and the man said, sir I want, I am poor, I want to I am determined to become very rich and then the poor that person is a real devotee of Sri Ramakrishna God, so he had tremendous faith in Sri Ramakrishna looked upon Sri Ramakrishna as his own guru Sri Ramakrishna was pleased he said, bring some jalebi of course, I make fun that why did you ask to bring jalebi? why did you not ask to bring first class rajabhog? that would have been much more preferable than even jalebi, of course ruchi inam, vaichitriyam ruzu kutila patha, nana pata jusham, tastes are different, loko binna ruchi so the young man had faith he brought next time when he visited first class, not third class jalebi, but first class jalebi, and that is a great hint the devotee has to give to you whenever you go on to the temple or visit a swami or visit a baby, don't take third class things take less quantity, give less quantity but quality things, God appreciates quality more than quantity, there are many incidents I will not go into it, so Shri Ram Krishna's grace he ate up the jalebi and he became one of the richest what you call nowadays a billionaire, by the grace of Shri Ram Krishna because Shri Ram Krishna was Sarva Deva Devi Swaroopa he can give whatever a man desires, but when God gives something he is not to be considered as a Kalpataru, just he will fulfill the wish of the devotee and that's it, no he is God, he is like a mother, and he saw that this young man will not fall into the clutches of the worldliness, secular life so he became, his wife became who was very famous, Bhavatarini Devi and she lived in a very ripe old age and I had the greatest good fortune to touch her feet she was the only person who saw Shri Ram Krishna whom I could see so I have seen so many sadhus who have seen Holy Mother of course Brahmanandji Maharaj Mahapurush Maharaj Subodhanandji Maharaj and many other disciples, excepting I could not see the disciples of Swamivekanandaji the last disciple passed away he could have waited a little few more months, passed away just a few years before I could reach Belur Math, anyway so this was an example then the power of Sri Suktam and Kanakadharasutra, I told you that I wanted some money I repeated these things with faith and you won't believe it miracle has happened, money came from where it came, how it came materials came, people came a temple at Alsore was we were able to complete all by the power of the mantra I have heard one wonderful incident there was a householder he had a daughter about I think 14 or 15, 16 years old young girl and she became mentally unbalanced so this devotee went to Sringeri where he had great faith in Shankaracharya, so this Shankaracharya heard everything and gave him a mantra and told him everyday visit the temple and then you go to the tank there is a tank there take a glass of water and you repeat this mantra 1000 times you bring also your daughter along with you, both of you after taking bath, take a glass of water repeat this mantra 1000 times, offer it to God and then make your daughter drink it for 40 days and the devotee had immense faith and he did and he started noticing after 15 days slowly the girl was becoming better and better and by 40th day the whole thing was completely resolved, she became absolutely normal person this is extraordinary event because not only physical diseases mental diseases everything will go that's why God is called Bhavaroga Vaidya he is not only a physician for the ordinary things he is a physician for every disease physical, mental of course spiritual what is spiritual disease? spiritual disease is we suffer from lack of spirituality just as we suffer from lack of oxygen lack of certain amounts in our blood etc. so we don't have spirituality and Bhavaroga Vande Bhavesham Bhavaroga Vaidhyam is a hymn by Swami Avedananda ji to Sri Ramakrishna what are we talking about? this was a miraculous incident like that in Sri Ramakrishna's life also so many miraculous incidents were there but one of the most famous incidents was the wife of one what is called drunkard devotee came to Sri Ramakrishna and he played with her and sending to Holy Mother Holy Mother sending her back to Sri Ramakrishna after 2-3 times of juggling Holy Mother took pity, took a Bilopatra, a leaf of Bilwa or Tulasi, I don't remember upon it wrote the name of God and said repeat God's name and then the husband came round so the power of mantras in fact the whole first part of the Vedas is all about the power of the mantras only what is the most important thing that you lit up a fire and go on repeating the mantras whether it is Rudram or Namakam or Chamakam or whatever it is and if we have faith and if we follow properly then it will give us the entire result by many people Lalita Sahasranama is considered as a most wonderful remedy for all sorts of not only physical but mental diseases also that is why she is called Mithya Jagat Atishtatri Muktida Muktirupni Kaivalya Padadayini Bandhanirmochini etc so this is the power of name then this is only I give examples only with regard to the removing some physical disabilities or some lack of money etc now I will give an example from Ramakrishna's life you know there was a young man called Yogin Maras he was suffering from what all of us suffer especially young people from lust he was a very sincere person he came to Sri Ramakrishna and he asked how can I conquer lust Sri Ramakrishna said take the name of Hari and everything will disappear but the young man thought this man is ignoramus he doesn't know there was a yogi at that time at Dakshineswar and he could twist his body into all sorts of angles so Sri Ramakrishna doesn't know anything this yogi is very impressive, he will teach me some yoga prakriya and then I can become free from it so he started going there and one day Sri Ramakrishna caught hold of him, pulled him and said what are you doing here Yogin Maras was telling, reminiscing later on, I thought that why can't I experiment with what Sri Ramakrishna has said, I know I have great faith in him but why am I deviating from him so he went and started earnestly repeating Hari's name and within a few days he started noticing a change and he was able to conquer lust forever and not only little but not only temporarily, permanently also then we know from the Bhagavatam the famous story of Ajayamila Ajayamila's story amply illustrates the power of God's name even if somebody by mistake utters the name of Narayana or God, name of God, it will save it has the tremendous power but we have to understand and this is my interpretation of Ajayamila's story Ajayamila was a very great Brahman very pious, very pure he was following all the Brahminical code of conduct very very sincerely but there was some what is called great obstacle, he fell a victim to lust by witnessing some undesirable scene and he married himself into a low caste family, lived with them he was outcasted of course but in the end, I am sure all the previous Samskaras must have come to his aid, his what is called all the bad Samskara must have become exhausted through this experience and all the austerities he had performed must have come to his rescue we must never lose hope and say I have been taking God's name for a long time, nothing is happening, no everything will happen but at the right time so this Ajayamila when the time came for him to pass away he must, everything his Purva Janma, Purva Janma means what he was doing before he fell down, must have come in glorious divine light and he must have repented tremendously and he sincerely took the name of Narayana and then the messengers of Vishnu had come but the scripture doesn't explain all this tells you take by mistake or even unconsciously take the name of God Holy Mother used to say do Japaam and Siddhi will come what about mechanical Japaam? yes, at the beginning it is mechanical but God's name has tremendous power and in course of time slowly the mind becomes purified Shraddha will come, Bhakti will come, Viveka will come Vairagya will come slowly will be progressing this so that is why the whole Karmakanda is nothing but pure faith in the power of the mantras, that is the real meaning of mantra, Mananat Trayate, by repeating by mulling over, my thinking over Mananat of course with attention and with concentration with Shraddha, with Bhakti slowly it will increase remember, Bhakti, Gnanam Viveka, Vairagya they are like muscles we are all like people who are convulsing, there are people who are suffering terribly they are called worldly people I compare them to pure worldly people without any one sparing, one thought even for God, but we are like convulsing people means by some God's grace, Punya we have realized we have been suffering we went to the right doctor and took his advice and have been taking right medications and right diet and slowly we are convulsing and convulsing food will be there all those things will be there so when we go on doing it slowly the power of God's name removes the darkness, brings us nearer and nearer to health which is ultimately it will take us to God himself, what is real health? Swasthya Swasthya means what? To abide in oneself, knowing fully well, I am not the body, I am not the mind etc so this was what I wanted to tell about the Nama Mahatmya but in our last class I also mentioned about Chaitanya's Sikshashtakam this is the only extent one, eight stanzas hymn called Sikshashtakam, Ashtakam means eight shlokas eight stanzas, eight verses, Siksha means a great teaching so the everything comprised of bhakti is there within this, eight shlokas are there and very few of you must have really read about Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is one of the greatest incarnations of God born again in West Bengal in the 15th century and Tulasidas was influenced by him, Mirabai was influenced by him etc so about Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that Bhairavi Brahmani used to say, our Sri Ramakrishna is none other than Chaitanya Mahaprabhu himself and she had plenty of visions of Sri Ramakrishna in the form of Chaitanya and his companion Nithyananda and Sri Ramakrishna he is uttering these words, he was an incarnation of God, the fire of Chaitanya's renunciation was so great that when Sarvabhauma poured sugar on his tongue instead of melting it evaporated into air Chaitanya was always absorbed in Samadhi how great was his conquest of lust now I have to tell you something very important, this incident is worth remembering a hundred times, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was one of the two children of Jagannath Mishra and Shichidevi and his elder brother eldest or elder brother he renounced Vishwambara and then he left and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu grew up as one of the most learned persons he was one of the most handsome persons, Mr. Universe, every young girl used to fall in love with him, he was called Gauranga Gauranga means his complexion was like that of the gold like Radha he was not proud he was married twice but then once he met a great Sanyasi, Shankaracharya Darshanami Sanyasi and then a great change had come over it came in different stages but I am telling about the final stage, his heart was burning, yearning for God realization especially in the form of Krishna so once he met this his Guru and Keshava Bharathi and then he begged him please give me Sanyasa because by that time Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had realized that I am not born as an ordinary person I have a mission to fulfill and that mission is to spread the glory of God's name through Nama Sankirtana see group singing of God's name, both individual and group singing to spread the glory the power of God's name and for that if I remain as a householder, people will not listen to me, in India monks, false or real, they only have great influence upon people Indians usually they don't have that much faith in householders because if you are a householder, you are not a renunciate, if you are not a renunciate then I have to tell that it is absolutely no use giving spiritual teachings you are a householder, a worldly person, somehow even though there are so many householder saints but householders have less faith in householders but they have more faith in Sanyasins, so this Chaitanya Mahaprabhu went there and then begged for Sanyasa because Chaitanya Mahaprabhu realized if I don't become a monk, people will not accept my words as authentic, at least many people will not accept, Keshav wanted to test him one look at him and he was horrified he said I am not going to give Sanyasa to you and then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu why do you say so, am I unfit, said Baba you are so beautiful you are so handsome that there are many rich handsome people women who would fall headlong, head over heels in love with you and there are also very beautiful women, you may not fall for every woman but you will fall for some other woman my name will go bad and people will think every Sanyasi is a bad Sanyasi how could this Sanyasi give Sanyasa to this worthless fellow, if you will bring you are likely to bring a bad name to me, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said Sir, it will not become of you without testing me how can you pass such judgments, you please test me, after that you tell me now tell me, how to test, whether a person is going to fall or not, but here is Keshav Bharat and he invented one of the best tests even we can do it even today, what was the test he took a pinch of sugar, asked Chaitanya to stretch his tongue and put that sugar on his tongue even hearing the name sugar, water is coming in my mouth, in your mouth I am sure, if not sugar at least Rasagulla Rajbhog etc. or any desirable food, sugar is very sweet we are all sweet people sweet, what is called tooth, toothed people so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu stretched his tongue, sugar was put and after one or two minutes, Keshav Bharat just, he did like that and the whole sugar dry as it was it just flew away and then he said, anybody who had this much of control over his tongue it will be impossible for him to fall down, because those who have conquered this Rasanendriya a tongue taste, for him even lust and other things are very small minor problems at all there is a lot for us to learn about this, even if you are hearing and water is not coming, hearing of the sweet or sugar, just to try put one grain of sugar on your tongue, see whether your tongue will water or not and if anybody is there, who says no you can come and blow it out I salute that person and say you are already a realized soul, so this was the test instead of Keshav Bharat Ramakrishna used the name Sarvabhauma, poured sugar on his tongue, instead of melting, it just evaporated into air, because the tongue remained absolutely as dry, not only before there might have been water but now because of the burning yearning, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had, this sugar had remained dry and just flew away then only he got the name Krishna Chaitanya the name, ever since he became popular with that name, and the Ramakrishna's statement about Chaitanya, he was always absorbed in Samadhi, how great was his conquest of conquest of lust so, I have not even come to his Sikshastakam, which we will discuss in our next Gospel class you may say, why are you talking all these things, because this is all part of the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna and it is said we enjoy every bit of it don't go on saying, I have 5 minutes, I have to eat 100 Rasagullas I have to gobble them up no, let each Rasagulla last a long time, so we will discuss about it in our
