Taittiriya Upanishad Lecture 18 on 18 September 2024
Full Transcript (Not Corrected)
We are studying the Taittiriya Upanishad. The very first chapter is called Sikshadhyaya. And it has 12 sections and each section is called an Anuvaka. In our last class, we have completed the third section and started the fourth section. This fourth section is called a section dealing with Japa and Homa Sadhana. Prayer to Ishwara, to the Divine Lord in the form of Omkara. Because Omkara represents the body, the mind and the speech and the ideas, everything. So the gateway or as represented in this very Upanishad, you are the Sheetha Brahman. But you are covered with Medha. Second Medha. The meaning of the Medha. Second Medha that occurs is what Advaita Vedanta calls ignorance, Ajnana. Ajnana is not absence of knowledge but wrong knowledge. That is called Ajnana. Secular knowledge, worldly knowledge. We are not devoid of knowledge. Even a mosquito has knowledge. It wants to live and it has sufficient knowledge how to enter into a holy mosquito net. So it wants to live. It wants to be happy. God has endowed it with sufficient intelligence. Now this fourth Anuvaka, as I just now mentioned, is for Japa and Homa. For what purpose? For the fulfilment of four separate desires. What is the first desire? Dhanaprapti. Obtainment of the means, the instruments. That is a good body, a good mind, then plenty of money so that the person can perform Pancha Maha Yagnas. This is called Dhanaprapti. What for Dhanaprapti? For the performance of Pancha Maha Yagnas. As we know, one way Hinduism or our Vedanta represents human life. We are indebted to five beings. So whole life is meant only to get rid of the debt, maybe life after life. Like Lord Tirupati Venkateshwara, he borrowed money and he could not pay any money. Principle remains the same and only interest has to be paid and he goes through a lot of problems. So he has to accept black devotees, white devotees, yellow devotees. I mean the devotees with white money are white people. The people with black money are black people. The people with mixed money are called yellow people. Like that, he has to accept, he has no choice. So this fourth Anumaka is completely for prayers. What is the first one? Let me be endowed with prosperity which includes of course body, mind, everything necessary. What purpose? Second, Chitta Shuddhi. Let my mind become pure so that I will become a fit person. And then third, let me be endowed with that spiritual intellect so that once I approach a teacher, I will become a fit disciple and my teacher will initiate me into Mahavakya, guide me and through meditation which is herein called Manana and Nidhidhyasana, transformation of one's life into what I want to become. These are the three steps. First know, then practice, then become. These are the prayers, Chitta Shuddhi and then let me become a fit person, an Adhikari to be able to practice. Then what is the fourth desire? Once I become a realized soul, I know the truth like the father of Shweta Ketu. Then what would be the prayer? Let me be able to attract lots and lots of disciples. For what? So that I want to be known as a great teacher and everybody is rushing to join this teacher to learn. No, what I have learned, I did so by taking refuge at the older teachers, my Guru, his Guru from his Guru. So this is called Guru Parampara. So knowledge, real knowledge, real knowledge doesn't mean only spiritual knowledge, any type of knowledge, even moral knowledge. That's why Computer Guru, Cooking Guru, Administrator Guru. So anybody who knows better, we can learn from them. So this is the fourth prayer. First, for money. Second, practice Karma Yoga and purify the heart. Third, let me be a fit student so that I can realize the truth. Fourth, let me spread, distribute, share my knowledge with others. This entire fourth Anuvaka is full of these things. Why are we to mention these points even before we enter into this fourth Anuvaka? The reason for that is that people may be wondering, why is this person praying for money, praying for disciples? Because that is what worldly people also do. So let Lakshmi Devi come to me, let there be plenty of food, plenty of clothes, warm clothing especially if I am living in UK, North UK, not South UK. Southern part of the UK like London is comparable to South India. And if you go to Ireland etc., that is the Northern India, very cold in winter season, unbearably cold. So Lomasham Pashubhisah Swaha. That word Swaha indicates a Homa, a fire sacrifice. Anyway, anytime you hear that word Swaha, then you have to understand that some ritual has to be done by getting up the fire. These are the important points. If we keep in mind, then it will be easier for us to follow the mantras. In our last class, we have seen the first part of it. So first of all, Omkara is praised. He is the gateway to Brahman. He is a representative symbol both for the Saguna, personal Brahman, impersonal Brahman. Brahman with name, form and qualities. Brahman without name, form or qualities. First, enter into the Saguna Brahma. Enter means become one like a river entering into the ocean. So if I or you enter into a house, any house, any hall, then hall is separate, house is separate and we are separate. But when a river enters into the ocean, then or this water enters into water, oil becomes one with oil. This is called a real union and that is the meaning of Yoga. Yoga means complete union, not like sugar and milk, but not like salt and water, but like water into water, river into the ocean becomes merged completely without leaving any trace of individuality. That is called entering. So this Omkara is the only way. Omkara is the personal God. This Omkara is the only way. There is no other way. This Omkara produces all the other mantras, whether it is Vishnu Mantra, Shiva Mantra or even what you call the Mahavakyas. They are all nothing but purely, only the outcome, the manifestation of this Rishabha called Omkara. So it is praised among all the Vedic mantras. This is the one. We will just wait a little. Some big noise is going on. So this is the first part or the first mantra. As I said, this fourth Anuvaka has got three mantras. Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Omkara, Om So the first part is that the glory of Omkara and what does it mean? Like Sri Ramakrishna used to say, the essence of all spiritual practices is the name of God like Rama, Krishna or Kali or Durga. That is why this is Japa. Even in the way of a pilgrim and the pilgrim continues, we get that Christ mantra. So this is the mantra. All other mantras have come from there. And that is why everybody who is initiated, rarely we get a mantra without this Omkara. So it is like a staircase where you go on climbing. Usually every mantra will have three or four parts. First part is I do not belong to myself. What I possess doesn't belong to myself. Second part is to whom does it belong then? It belongs to God in the form of my chosen deity. Then where from this chosen deity or Ishta Devata has come? From Omkara. That is the steps. How we become Omkara and what is Omkara? Once you enter into Omkara, it is like entering, opening and stepping inside a dark room. Once you open the doorway and you think a first class floor is awaiting you. No. So you just fall and be smashed into Brahman. You will not exist and when you do not exist, even Brahman also doesn't exist. What do I mean? I am not meaning non-existence. I mean that knowledge this is Brahman. I have become Brahman. That knowledge through the mind will completely disappear and there should be no description of it at all. So this is the part we have seen and then we also have seen there is a prayer. What is the prayer? May He endow me with that special type of intelligence by which I can understand the scriptures, be inspired by them and be pulled by them, be possessed by them so that they can take me to what they represent. That is what He says. May I be capable of obtaining that knowledge. But for that instruments have to be appropriate. May my body, both gross, subtle, causal, be absolutely fit, be pure. And may my tongue become exceedingly sweet. What does sweetness mean? That also we discussed in our last class. What does it mean? It means the four conditions of what is called Vagmaya Tapas, the austerity of speech. What are they? Anudvegakaram Vakyam, Satyam, Priyam, Hitanchayat. So those four qualities. My speech should not hesitate anybody, create disturbance, especially negatively. Then it should be truthful and it should be conveyed very lovingly, joyfully. And then the person also should benefit by it. This is the best way how to become a teacher. So may my tongue become full of sweet words. Then whatever I am talking should be the result of what I have understood. And to understand, I have to learn a lot. For that, Karnabhyam Bhuri Vishvam. May I hear plenty all the time. This is what is called, what Shri Ramakrishna calls, never forget God. Always remember God. Nowadays, if you read the WhatsApp application messages, all the Sufi masters, irrespective of whoever is telling that you do not exist, only God exists. So let there be no separation from you from God. Let you and God be never separate. How? If you can remember all the time, the name of God. That is called union with God. So this is what is telling. May my ears always hear. And earlier also we have seen in another peace chant, Bhadram Karnebihi Shunayamadevaha. Bhadram Pashyama Akshavir Yajatra. So same it is repeated here. But in very different type of words. Karnabhyam Bhuri Vishvam. May I hear and may I read and may I think all the time. And they will turn into my continuous constant companions in the form of thoughts. And if I have those thoughts, what will come out of my mouth will be only those thoughts. As Jesus Christ often used to say, what you eat, what goes inside, that only comes out. So let me fill my being with scriptural thoughts. And then, O Omkara Rupa Parameshwara. Parameshwara, Divine Lord, in the form of Omkara, Tvam, You, Brahmanaha Koshaha Arshi. You are the container of Brahman. That means if you want water, you have to go where water is stored in a jug. If you want food, then you have to go, not to an empty refrigerator, but that which has got full of food. So if you go to the container, then you get what you want. So you are like that container. And what do you contain? You contain Brahman. But if you contain Brahman, why am I not able to understand? Because now at the moment, my understanding is covered with worldly knowledge. And as the worldly knowledge through the performance of Karma Yoga becomes less and less, then divine knowledge will seep in. You make place by emptying worldly knowledge. And to that extent, spiritual knowledge will fill it up. And then, Shrutamme Gopaya. Please protect what I have heard, understood. Let me never forget. And it is only by your grace, I will not forget. And then, now we get some sadhanas, both for Japa as well as Homa Sadhana. And as I said earlier, whenever we hear the word Swaha, we have to imagine there is a fire ritual. And in that fire, something has to be offered. And here, the fire is Omkara Rupa Parameshwaraha. The Divine Lord, Brahman. But in the form of Omkara. Imagine Omkara, like a blazing fire. And you have to offer whatever you feel like. And what will you offer? First of all, you offer what belongs to you. But later on, like Pavahari Baba, you will have to offer yourself. But offering oneself to God, that is called Sharanagati. Complete surrender to the Divine Lord. And what is this reference to Pavahari Baba? He was a great Yogi. Swamiji, Swami Vivekananda was a great admirer of this Pavahari Baba. And what did this Pavahari Baba do? This Pavahari Baba ultimately brought up the fire. And in that blazing fire... Until then, he was offering a lot of things previously. But he decided to offer his body itself. He sat down in that blazing fire. And later on, people felt the smell of burning flesh. Then they understood that Pavahari Baba has offered himself. When they came and saw, there were only some bones and ashes. But he might have given some hints. I am going to offer. Interestingly, there was a great self-realized soul. He was called Trilinga Swami. Sri Ramakrishna met him. Then he told his devotee who was looking after him. On such and such a date, I have a desire to give up the body. So make a box. I will enter into it. And see that it is never opened. And the devotee knew that the Swami decided to give up his body. And they know. In South India, there is one person called Raghavendra Swami. He also got constructed one Samadhi. This is called Jeevanta Samadhi. So while leaving itself with many devotees, with some ceremonies, etc. He will be entering. And then it will be sealed. And then he will be there. Anyway, these are not cock and bull stories. But actual events that happen. So for them, body is nothing. Anyway, Omkara Rupa Parameshwara is the fire. But here we will come to that. And this Homam is called Avahanti Homa. Avahanti means please come to me bringing the fulfillment of all my desires. I want money. I want cattle wealth. And I want Medha. I want disciples. I want so many things. All for what purpose? Not to fulfill my worldly desires. But so that I may travel faster to you. And then reach you finally. Everything that I do is only to come back to you. How do we know this interpretation is correct? Because we are not studying what is called Karma Kanda. We are studying Gnana Kanda. Upanishad means Gnana Kanda. The purpose of Upanishad is only Brahma Vidya, Brahma Gnana. So therefore we know all these are preparations. Preparations are necessary. So let me be endowed not only with external things. But let my body, mind, environment, social environment, everything be conducive. So that I can reach you. And this is Avahanti. That is may you come to me O Divine Lord in the form of prosperity and things that I need. Avahanti. May you be the bringer. That is why it is called Avahanti Homa. It is also very popular. A few people do it. Especially Brahmins. Why do they do it? The first thing is Dhanaprapti. As I said there are four desires are there. One leading to the other. But most people stop with only Dhanaprapti. Obtaining what is called enjoyable things. In the form of wealth, lands, cattle, bank balance, etc. Its name and fame. Here we have to remember the goal is to become a realiser. God realiser. So what are those four things? Just to remember. First is obtainment of wealth. Dhanaprapti. Second, through that I will do Karma Yoga. Especially Panchamaha Ignas. And therefore what happens? Chitta Shuddhi. Chitta becomes pure. And all my impurities will be removed. What happens? Like a clean mirror, it will reflect the truth. Then I will be able to see clearly. Oh, this is what life is meant. This is what my life is meant. And my teacher is there to teach me that one. Without the least bit of doubt. And the difference between what is worldly enjoyment and spiritual enjoyment. Crystal clearly one knows about it. This is called Antah Karna Shuddhi. The purity of the inner organ. Or Chitta Shuddhi. And after obtaining Chitta Shuddhi, purity of the mind and heart. This is what Patanjali Yogi says. Yogah Chitta Hrithi Nirodhah. Purity of thoughts. Then what happens? Third, this must lead to me. God is real. He is there. And I have come from God. He is my real parent. So I must go back. Manachalo Nijani Ketane. Samsar Bideshe Bideshe Rubeshe. Brahmo Kheno Aakarane. So this is for the sake of obtaining Vrana Prapti. In Advaitic language or Sanyasin's language. Vividisha Sanyasa. Thereafter Vidwat Sanyasa. So this is the third. Let me obtain real knowledge. Not worldly changing and unreliable worldly knowledge. And then hopefully I will be able to know the truth. I will get the knowledge Aham Brahmasmi. And thereafter just as my Guru gave it to me freely. I should be able to give it to others. That is called Sishya Prapti. So with this background let us delve deep into it. So here begins the second. Avahanti Homa. And because every mantra ends with Swaha. That means a fire is lit up. And there are certain preparatory ceremonies to be gone through. If you have seen any Homa in any one of our Ashramas or outside. Then you will understand what I am talking about. So here is the prayer. Avahanti Itanvana Kurvana Cheram Atmanaha Vasamsi Mamagavasya Anna Panecha Sarvada Tatomi Shriyamavaha Lomasham Pasubhihsaha Swaha And remember this fire is called Onkara Rupa Parameshwara Agni. And what is the prayer? Sri Devi Lakshmi Devi. That is the Goddess of wealth. Who is the Goddess of wealth? The Grace of Parameshwara comes to you. The deserving disciple. Never wealth or anything comes. Good things come to a person who does not deserve. Then what does come? Whatever a person deserves. If somebody had done a lot of sins. Only suffering and unpleasant things will come. Because I myself invited them. I have not prayed for them. But as if through my actions, I am doing this Homa. O Lord, bring me suffering. O Lord, bring me all those people who will give me forever troubles. So people do not understand. So I am very clever. No. Any evil action has its consequences. That is why they say. You reap what you sow. So what does it mean? First of all. This is a Sri Linga or feminine gender. That means the Grace of God is always used as in the feminine gender. Kripa, Daya, Avahanti. May Lakshmi Devi here come to me. But how? Not empty handed. Carrying. Avahanti means bringing with her. What? Things will come. We will talk about it. Not only you come bringing whatever is required by me. Prayed by me. Vitanmana. They should not be spent. They should not get exhausted. Then Vitanmana means that you spread them. Increase them. Let me get more and more and more things. For what purpose? Not for my enjoyment. But for doing social service. For maintaining my students etc. Obviously he is a Grihastha Ashrama follower. Throughout this Upanishads. Especially Taittiriya Upanishad. In the 11th Anvaka we are going to get that never neglect. First of all hold on to truth. Satyam Vada. Dharmam Chara. Then practice only righteousness. Speak truth and then practice righteousness. Never neglect study of the scriptures. Because the knowledge will come only through the study of the scriptures. What knowledge? What to do? Do's and Don'ts. That is what Moses has brought in the form of 10 commandments. So we also have got our own commandments. What are those commandments? First of all Patanjali Rishi. Ashtanga Yoga are commandments. Then 5 commandments of Hiram Krishna. 5 commandments of Holy Mother. 10 commandments of the Bhagavad Gita. So everything comes as a commandment. That is called Vidhi and Nishedha. So let me spend my money not only for my maintenance. But let me also share, care, share, distribute whoever needs it. Because even from purely secular point of view, the belief of Hinduism is that whatever I spend I earn Punya. And Punya comes in the form of the ability to be happy under every circumstance. So O Lakshmi Devi who is the grace of God. So that is why Brahma's grace in the form of Saraswati. What is Brahma's grace? If you look at the picturization, illustration of Brahma, there will be 4 faces. Each face represents a Veda and Vedic knowledge. And if I follow with faith, then the grace of God will follow like a shadow follows any particular body in daytime. So it is like that. So spread the wealth. Let it go on increasing. Not only that, you alone can protect. Because as soon as somebody has something, other people's jealous eye, greedy eye falls upon those people. They want to snatch everything there. But you will have to protect me. Kurvana. Then Acharam. As soon as a danger threatens me, me Atmanaha. Acharam. Immediately. Bring immediately. And increase them immediately. And whatever you have granted me, protect. And that is what Bhagavad Gita says that if anybody thinks of me all the time. Yoga means what my devotee, my child requires, I will bring it at the right time, right quantity, what benefits. But the child may not be able to protect. Many parents give the children lot of golden ornaments, etc. So very interesting story I will tell you. But the parents keep an eye that thieves will not snatch away. Sometimes children are killed for the sake of the golden ornaments they wear. So the story is about Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was a small child. And his parents, his father had given him very costly necklace. And his name was Nimai. Nimai was very happy and flaunting his golden ornament. He was running here and there. Extraordinarily restless child. And a thief saw. And he thought this is a good opportunity to get enriched. So he took up the child. Nicely spoken. This fellow cultivated such wonderful speech. Any child will be mesmerized. I will carry you. I will be your horse. Like that he took him. And he was taking him into a solitary spot. So that he can either kill the baby and take it away. Or if possible just take it out of his neck. And then throw the child to his fate. And then he lost his directions. Wandering, wandering. Meanwhile the family members were missing Nimai. And they were searching. And then they were very anxious. Suddenly this thief appeared right in front of their home. Because Nimai has caused such confusion. That this fellow was thinking he was going outside the village. But right in front of... Then everybody ran, caught hold of Nimai and took it out. Of course such good luck may not come to all of us. But we have to understand it. Oh Lord, Oh Mother, Divine Mother. Bring whatever I need. And increase it so that I can share it. I can use it to serve the society. Karma Yoga, Parschitta Shuddhi. And you alone can protect me. And come soon. Cheera is a Vedic usage. What is called long, dirgha. It is not correct usage. Cheera, Achira. Cheera means long. Achira means immediately. Atmanaha. And what are the prayers? Vasamsi. I want cloths. What type of cloths? That he will tell later on. Mama, Gavascha. Vasamsi, Mama. Whatever cloths are necessary. That is dress etc. To protect myself from cold, heat. North India has extreme temperatures. Too cold. In the olden days of course. And then the North Indians, Aryans used to live. That is where Vedic civilization had spread. So extraordinarily cold in the winter seasons. So then bring Gavascha. Gava means cattle wealth. In those days, cattle for agriculture. For milk. For curds. For clarified butter. So that it can be used. All these items are used. Only in the Yajnas and Yagas. So plenty of these things. Not only for me. For my family. But for all the students. Because the responsibility of maintaining those students depends upon the teacher. They are not going and asking Guru Dakshina. You have to bring so much money. Then only entrance will be there. Not like that. So Vasamsi and then Gavascha. Then Anna Paneja Sarvada. At any time, let me never lack sufficient food, sufficient drinks. That is water etc. All the time. Maybe milk also etc. Why? Because students have to be given. The guests have to be given. The poor people have to be given. The beggars have to be given etc. So Anna Paneja Sarvada. Sarvada means all the time. Not that once you bring a ship load and dump them in my house. Every day you bring fresh all these things. Then Tathaha. After that me. To me. Shriyam Avaha. Bring lot of money also. The money part is telling only now. Money also. Money means Dhanam. That is also necessary for many other things. Then Lomasham Pashubhih Saha. Saha means along with. Pashubhih means animals. What type of animals? Lomasham. That is full of hair. Hairy animals. You know if you go to North India. Even to Tibet and other places. You get Chamri. That is even the tail will be long. Because nature has developed all these animals. And out the more cold. God protects them. With a very thick warm skin. Like polar bears. So even in the beginning of the winter. End of the winter. They just will be rolling restlessly. On pieces of ice. So that is their way of cooling their body. Because they cannot like our coats. You cannot remove those coats. Because some animals have curiously. Have the ability to shed their this one. And then winter is over. Summer comes. They can shed all their hair. And then again it will grow. And that is how all these sheep and other things. Nowadays they shave them. And we are using that one. So this indicates. These great Rishis used to live. In very cold regions. And naturally they don't want to suffer. And not that they want to enjoy. But they want to make these things. Life a little comfortable. So this is the prayer. Oh Mother. That is giving Swaha. And after this prayer. Then you offer whatever clarified butter usually. And let this Agni Devata. Purohita. Carry my prayers to the Divine Lord. And bring it back. Like a postman. A fire god is considered as a postman. That is why he is called Purohithaha. He who is just in front of you. And Hithaha. He only wants your welfare. So to sum up. May your grace come in the form of Lakshmi Devi. And Lakshmi represents every type of wealth. So not only that. Let it increase tenfold. Hundredfold. The more it increases. The more I will be able to serve the society. And not only that. The responsibility of protecting me. From undesirable elements. Thieves. Kings. And greedy people etc. It also by your grace only. Bring. When? Achiram. Immediately. As soon as possible. Atmanaha. These are my requirements. What are these? Vasansi. Dresses. Clothes. Gavascha. Cattle wealth. Annam. Paanam. Plenty of food. Plenty of drinks. When? Sarvada. Every day. All the time. Tathome. Shreyamavaha. Because these are the things which sustain my day to day life. But I also want to increase in wealth. Therefore after all these things Shreyamavaha. Bring me plenty of wealth. When? Tathaha. Shankaracharya gives a beautiful explanation. Tathaha means when? When the Divine Mother bestows her grace. Makes life extraordinarily facilitating. And then the person is able to. The teacher is able to devote his attention to teaching. Without any worry. And the students are able to grasp them very much. Then they get knowledge. That Medha Anantaram. After obtaining that discriminatory knowledge. Medha. So that they know what life is. How life should be led. What should be done. What should not be done. What should be done every single day. What is the final goal of life. All these things have to be learnt from the scriptures. Then only you bring me all these. Why? So after that I also wanted to practice Sadhana. And once I realized. I also want to maintain this Guru Parampara system. And then here. Loma, Shama, Pashupati. We have already explained Saha. That is the wealth of animals, cattle etc. And what type of cattle? Full of hair. Loma, Roma. That is the Pralaya or Abhedaha. There is no difference between Ra and La. So that I can make woollen clothes. Protect myself. It is not for enjoyment. But so that I can lead life without any disturbance. All these things. Prayers. In this Avahanti Homa is done. Then it is taken for granted. Then God grants all those things. Then what? Then I may also become blessed by realizing God. What is the next one? Then prayer for students. I have obtained this knowledge from my Guru. He out of His infinite grace. Without stinting. Without expecting anything from me. That's why the three qualifications of a Guru. He should be what is called a knower of Shrutis. And He should be what is called without the least blemish of Kama. And then He should teach purely out of infinite affection. Without any motive. So if my students will revere me. My students will look after me in old age. No. Just you do what God has given you. Or what your Guru has given you. Without the least bit of it. So the Guru also has to fulfill these conditions. And then He has become a realized soul. That is what we expect. And then what is the prayer? Let me continue this Guru Parampara. This tradition of teaching. Let me share what my Guru had granted me. Through which I became blessed to other people. Amayanto Brahmacharana Swaha. Vimayanto Brahmacharana Swaha. Pramayanto Brahmacharana Swaha. Damayanto Brahmacharana Swaha. Shamayanto Brahmacharana Swaha. Om. Bring me without delay. Fortune accompanied by wool and cattle. Fortune which always provides me with cloths and cattle. Plenty of food and drink. Then increase them. And when they have been acquired. Then preserve them long. After increasing them. Swaha. May Brahmacharans come to me. Variously. Swaha. May Pramayanto Brahmacharana. Pra means Prajnavantha. Intelligent people. Earnest people. Ready to learn. Let them come. May Brahmacharans come to me. Who have self-control. Shamayanto Brahmacharana Swaha. Then Shamayanto Brahmacharana. So external body control. That is called Dama. Shama. Damaadi. Shatka Sampati. In Vivekachudamani we have seen. Then may Brahmacharans come to me. Who are endowed with absolute mind control. How? Because they also like me. Have done sadhana. And became pure. So a pure mind. And a controlled mind. A concentrated mind. A joyful mind. A mind with right understanding. Right remembrance. They all go together. So these are the qualifications. What are the qualifications? Five qualifications. Four qualifications. First is Amayantu. Amayantu has to be split as Mamayantu. There is a second letter Ma. So that Ma has to be put either beginning or in the end. Aayantu is the correct word. May they come. Where? Ma. Means Ma. Not. Then Ma has got two meanings. One is the negative meaning. Not. Ma Kuru Dhanajana Yavvana Garvam. Harati Nimeshath Kalaha Sarvam. Do not become proud or conceited. No. Here Ma means Mom. So let them come to me. When? After I myself have become a person of knowledge. Brahmacharinaha. So plenty of students. Brahmachari means remember. Here Brahma means Veda. Chari means one who is deeply desirous of acquiring Vedic knowledge. Vedacharinaha. So Brahma is another name for Veda. That is why Brahma has got Chaturmukha Brahma. Four Vedas. So Brahmacharinaha Swaha. Means you give an oblation. Then Agnideva may forget. He wants students. He will bring idiotic and stupid and uninterested students. No. Imayantu Brahmacharinah Swaha. V means Visesha Visesha Gnanavantaha. Desirous of seeking various things. Some want to study Vedas. Some want to learn archery. Some want to become Ayurvedic physicians. Like that a Guru in those days is a teacher of, a knower of many many arts like Narada. So here. So disciples who are interested in various branches of knowledge let them all come to me because I have that knowledge. Swaha means may my desire be fulfilled. But if their character is not good then they will be a trouble to me. If they are not endowed with intelligence however much I will teach they will not be able to understand. So Pra Ma Ayantu. Ma again Ayantu means let them come. Pra Shankaracharya comes to our aid here. Pra means Pragnavantaha. Intelligent students. Sincere students. Sincere but also capable of receiving as soon as I teach they should be able to receive like Agnivalkya. Let them come. Not dull students. But not only endowed with intelligence. Pra Ma Ayantu Brahmacharya Swaha. Let them have complete control over their five sense organs, over their body. Only such people come. Because in those days food etc. will be very simple food. What is called not spicy food but very just boiled. Maybe a little bit of salt etc. etc. will be there. Pra Ma Ayantu Brahmacharya Swaha. Shama Ayantu Brahmacharya Swaha. Not only external control but let them have perfect control. Let them be of those who have got complete Chitta Shuddhi. That is those who are capable of concentrating, listening, understanding, retaining, recollecting, using for the good of everybody. Let such Brahmacharyans come to me. I will just close this talk. Remember after the realization sadhana was complete, Ramakrishna used to run after sunset to the roof of the place Kuti. Then he used to say, Ma, where are my children? I want to share my knowledge. This comes to every realized soul who becomes a Jeevan Mukta. So please bring them. I cannot live without them. My ears have become like drums hearing these worldly people's talks. Bring devotees. What type of devotees? Then we have to add these things. Let devotees who are interested in spiritual progress and pure and then very intelligent and those who have got external and internal control and then let them also be blessed.
