Om Jananem Sharadam Devem Ramakrishnam Jagadgurum Pada Padmetayos Ritva Pranamami Mohur Mohur Om Vasudevasutam Devam Kamsachanuram Ardhanam Devaki Paramanandam Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum Sarvopanishadogavo Dogdha Gopalanandana Partho Achcha Sudhir Bhokta Dugdham Geetam Ritam Mahat Mokam Karuti Vachalam Pangam Langayate Girim Yat Kripatamaham Vande Paramanandamadham We have been discussing the summary of the entire Bhagavad Gita which is the 18th chapter and in that chapter we have been discussing since yesterday about the Tamasa person so how, what type of action does he do first of all let us always remember Gunas are three Sattva, Rajas and Tamas and second point we have to understand is that everything springs when our mind is filled with either Sattva or Rajas or Tamas next point we have to remember no Guna by itself will ever operate, cannot operate it is like a dimmer switch wherever there is one Guna all the other Gunas are also there but one Guna dominates not temporarily but always there is an example I will give you that even the most Tamasika person when he had sufficient rest after that as soon as he gets up for a short time his mind will be like a Sattvika mind calm, quiet etc but within a short time it becomes agitated after some time it goes back to its normal state so early in the morning at midnight most of the people become very thoughtful nature will make them thoughtful that is called Sattvika state and as soon as midday comes light is there we experience so many objects immediately Raga, Dvesha everything comes, mind becomes extremely agitated so this is the influence of certain times, certain places certain persons, certain situations everybody becomes thoughtful in the funeral parlor that's not what we are talking about most of the time consciously what a person does is dominated, directed, guided propelled by one particular Guna and such a person is called either Sattvika or Rajasika or Tamasika and how do we know? these are all judgmental values when you look at a person's life it is filled with as I mentioned earlier four things first I know Gnanam second I desire that is Ichcha third I want to either get or get rid of Karma fourth what is the experiences I have so there are Gnanashakti Ichchashakti then Karmashakti or Kriyashakti and Bhogashakti I know, I desire, I do and I am experiencing these are the four inseparable qualities wherever there is knowledge all these things will be there so naturally either you judge a person by his knowledge which we had discussed three types of knowledge and we are still discussing also and three types of action three types of feeling that I am a doer three types and then of course comes later on what type of experience which is called in this 18th chapter Sukham Gnanam Karma Kartha and Buddhi Dhriti and Sukham these six topics and if we observe them closely we will get a very good knowledge whether we are Tamasic most of the time or Rajasic most of the time or Sattvic most of the time and the person is the lower the stage he is in by this we come to know as if a psychologist is telling us this is your nature after interacting with you I come to know that we ourselves can become our own counselors our own psychologists, psychiatrists and in fact spiritual life is nothing but pure what is called the most marvelous psychiatry where we transform from what is called deluded people unhappy people unfruitful people to the most fulfilled people what Viktor Frankl calls who obtain the highest amount of meaning in life because a person knows that I am none other than Divine, Brahman, Atman whatever name you call it so in our 20 second shloka yesterday we were discussing that is what type of this knowledge a person has got Gnanam because everything starts with Gnanam and Gnanam produces desire desire translates into action and action ends in experience that is the inevitable krama or order knowledge, desire, action and the experience of the results of the action but we can reverse it if we have slowly a fairly good idea what is our knowledge how do we know we are experiencing I am not happy I am not fulfilled life is meaningless life is dry I don't see any reason to live if anybody is thinking that means that is the result so why did this state come in because of certain actions I have done what actions I have done analyze them and why do I do such actions because of my likes and dislikes and why do I do this likes and dislikes because of misunderstanding so have right understanding which leads to right desire which in technical language is called Viveka means right understanding Vairagya means right decision and right activities is called mind control body control etc and finally that leads us to the experience of Mukti or liberation is another model of looking at the same thing so we have discussed the knowledge of a Satvika person that which crystal clearly unerringly points the way what defects a person has and what merits also a person has how to get rid of the defects and how to proceed progress towards God that knowledge and which results in appropriate desire appropriate actions appropriate reaction and appropriate experience of the results which we are going to see in future similarly if a person is restless uncontrolled mind that knowledge also is confined only to the lower perceptible experiences of life but such a person doesn't have too much desires even if he believes in the scripture even he desires I want to go to heaven I want to avoid hell he is much better than a Tamasika person and then his knowledge is much better he is better because of his knowledge but a Satvika person the highest what about a Tamasika person that's what yesterday I started this 22nd verse so he has given that type of knowledge ekasmin karyekritsna vatsattham that is karya means here body the whole life attention centre of consciousness is centred only on the body that is I am the body I am not anything other than the body and the whole world is there to serve my purpose to cater for my selfish purpose and he doesn't see anything beyond that every instrument living, non-living other human beings even gods and goddesses everything is to serve his purposes such a person's knowledge that type of knowledge is called and this type of knowledge is what is called completely irrational why because he looks at other people and he sees there are other people like him in fact majority of the people they are called materialistic people and science encourages it science tells us that whatever cannot be proved in their puny laboratories I call them laboratories cannot be tested cannot be believed in and I make fun of them why science is doing a great job but it is only giving us instruments but who uses that instruments and for what purpose they use scientists have nothing to do with that their knowledge is transformed into technology and the technology is used or I would say misused by most of them for the purpose of even deepening their worldliness their body consciousness etc so here is a person who thinks scriptures do not exist he is called in Hinduism or in Vedantic language is a beautiful combination of two words two words come together two vowels come together so one is a vowel and another is a consonant when these two come together is called means speech means sweet, beautiful what does it mean it means hey you fellow you are still clinging to these 10,000 years old beliefs in gods, goddesses etc and once this body is burnt nothing remains not even ashes you will not know that so now forget about all those things and there is no rebirth there is no fast birth this is the only chance then grab as much of happiness as possible by hook, by crook by buying, borrowing, stealing and by whatever means and the means justify the end so you do this what is called in banking language credit card is nothing but encouraging this system of materialism buy now, pay later but you know in complete opposition to this the spirituality that means god he says first pay then I will see when I can give you the result first do japa, tapa, meditation austerity, yagna dana, all these things then I will see whether you deserve it in this life next life or after 50 lives that discretion I know but I am a dharmakshetra I will never cheat you whereas this world since the last few years is encouraging, borrow as much as you can so if I cannot pay what happens there are other fools like you and we get from them because they are going to pay we don't mind if you either helpless people or clever people cheat me, cheat us banks we don't care but we are experiencing the terrible things because this type of tamasic knowledge charvaka knowledge not only it doesn't promote future happiness more happiness it leads to many undesirable consequences that is what is being said, we will also discuss about it in this particular shloka body is everything so as though it is complete, everything ends, begins with the body, ends with the body and then the body, physical body has some qualities, some sense organs so there is also a bit of consciousness but that consciousness begins with the birth of the body and ends with the death of the body and there afterwards this is the end of existence itself of that individual that he says, so since everything is only physical body then body is dead, everything is dead, no future life at all, therefore the only chance is the present moment, even past is dead, future is unknown, this moment what best you can do, think of only this moment, very interesting for me because there is a philosophy that is the present moment, live in the present, many books have come, Eckhart Tolle also has written, the power of the now, but these people, they are advocating completely in a different sense but the same thing, materialist person, he materialist he also does it but for his own what is called selfishness this moment you are alive, do what best by borrowing, buying, stealing by cheating, by murdering by killing, anything you do now, I mentioned in my last class just look at the big companies tech companies, look at the governments whether it is America, UK or China I don't want into this gory details but so many people from India cheated Indians, Indian government and with crores of rupees, fled to UK which is the safest heaven for them and very convenient excuse the law doesn't permit a person to be extracted extricated to the place where he has committed these crimes because those governments are likely to punish them and they think with this kind of money because if a person comes with tremendous amount of money their prosperity will increase before that they went and looted every country practically now also they want to get let others come to us I am sorry, this is a political matter but why I am telling this is all the result of thinking in a materialistic tamasa gnanam and that is seeping into everybody practically now there is no east or west India or non-India it is creeping everywhere even a clerk, even a petty clerk for the sake of 100 rupees they do the same thing because that is the knowledge and we are goaded by this kind of knowledge right or wrong knowledge but one thing you have to understand here whatever knowledge a person has got, such a person never calls it a wrong knowledge, that is to say that he is convinced this is the right knowledge and his whole life flows only through that four steps, knowledge, desire, appropriate action experience of the karmaphala etc so here is ahaitukam irrational, what is it body is the atman and nothing else, no atman exists, no consciousness exists this is ahaitukam and not only that, Shankaracharya he adds fanaticism to this irrationality, what is it my religion, alone is the true religion, my way of thinking is the only way of thinking devotees, I worship the divine mother and everybody will go to hell excepting those who follow my particular sectarianism Christianity, Islam Vaishnavas, Shaktas Shaivas even now they are quarrelling recently in Varanasi because I am in Varanasi some people put up some placards that non Hindus have no access to these places and Shri Ram Krishna would have turned in his grave if he hears these kind of things so Shankaracharya says even fanaticism is irrational definitely it will lead to undesirable results all this because this person thinks body is the centre of the universe and his own body not anybody else's body he is not even rational when I am having pain I suffer, if somebody steals from me and misbehaves with me, I feel pain and if I steal somebody then he also is like no no only I feel bad only my selfishness is concerned I don't care this is called irrationality naturally so the result of such what is called A-Tattva-Artha-Vat this kind of knowledge is wrong knowledge Tattva-Artha, Tattva means right Tattva-Artha means absolutely right knowledge and its opposite is completely wrong knowledge this is called this Tamasic person's knowledge is A-Tattva-Artha, Alpam naturally his actions will be petty actions, petty actions do not give most marvellous results, they will give only petty results so this is, I remember a very nice joke, once a miserly fellow, he after death, somehow he reached heaven, Christian heaven and the door was closed, so he went to the window and he was flying in the cloud, he knocked at the window and Gabriel the archangel, he opened and said what the hell do you want I want to enter into heaven did you do anything good yes, once I donated one rotten cucumber to a hungry beggar woman, oh that's a wonderful thing wait a little, he turned to Michael and said, hey Michael bring two rotten cucumbers and Gabriel threw those rotten cucumbers and said here you have donated one we are giving you 100% more result, now get to hell, so the results a person a petty minded person with a petty knowledge, with petty actions, he cannot expect rationally to get inappropriate results, so the result what is the result, he will be born again and again and he will have to suffer unimaginable suffering that is the result of this tamasic jnanam what is the essence am I a tamasic person is my knowledge tamasic, am I a selfish person am I considering am I having faith in god through these scriptures and is it that I believe in higher lokas, higher worlds higher world means higher states of happiness do I want it, so if I want it, if I want to go to heaven I can't go with this dirty, puny body which is always changing and getting destroyed siriyate iti shariraha that which constantly undergoing troubles, that is called sharira with this body, I cannot go to heaven, where I am guaranteed the highest type of happiness, so this is the essence about tamasic jnani person and he does he thinks body is everything and his knowledge makes him extremely selfish he becomes very fanatical he is irrational and he does actions which are completely selfish and the result is also so much of suffering this is how we come to know am I selfish or unselfish if I am both selfish and unselfish remember all this understanding is meant only for what we call a spiritual aspirant, we are not talking preaching this to a worldly person let us keep that so we have to listen carefully, think carefully analyze ourselves carefully our knowledge our desires, our activities and the experiences we have, even if other things are cloudy, not clear but at least our experiences, am I a happy person, am I getting tremendous joy out of life, am I enjoying higher things not to speak of higher spirituality, higher music higher art higher literature, higher ways of lofty thinking etc, simple life and lofty thoughts am I experiencing if we do not analyze we are people who close their eyes like the ostrich which buries its head in the sand and thinks that I am out of danger when a lion or tiger is chasing it the result will be horrible beyond description so with this this person, he doesn't he is a tamasic person and his knowledge is the lowest most dangerous fanatical knowledge, why is it so? because he doesn't believe in a scripture and in Vedanta, a scripture which can give us knowledge which we cannot obtain through these five sense organs is called Veda Veda means super sensory knowledge and a beautiful definition has been given what is called Veda Pratyakshena Anumityava Yastupayo Navidyate Evam Vidanti Vedena Tasmat Vedasya Vedatha Veda Veda gives that knowledge what knowledge? Pratyakshena direct experience Anumitya, through inference through comparison through non-obtainment etc. the knowledge which we cannot attain through these things this is all very limited worldly knowledge but there must be a way Yastupayo there is an upaya and what is it? Vedas give us what is a Veda? a scripture, spiritual scripture what is a scripture? A direct experience of certain saints, sages who experienced what we cannot experience through the five sense organs and that is called Veda. I will read out once more. What is a Veda? Pratyakshena Anumityava Yastupayo Navidyate Evam Vidanti Vedena Tasmat Vedasya Vedatha What a marvelous definition that is why every religion claims that this is a direct teaching of the Lord whether it is Bible or Koran or Vedas or Tripitaka or whatever it is so a man with the knowledge characterized by Tamas finds the Atman Atman means self confined only to one body and he thinks that my duty in life is that only to cater to this Lord who is not this is called pure idolatry about which I mentioned what Ramana Bhagwan had so characteristically described. We wake ourselves up ceremonially musically and coffee machine will supply us in future it will even come and pour into inside our mouth and in future who knows it may drink itself to avoid our trouble of drinking and digesting. So this is the knowledge of a Tamasika person. Now we are coming to three types of Kartas, doers. As I said a person first becomes a man of knowledge Gnani then he becomes a person of desires, desirer then he becomes a doer. So like the knowledge which is of three types, three types of doers. What are the three types? Sattvika, Vajasika as well as Tamasika. How is it divided? Let us not forget. Once our mind is filled with Sattva, our Gnanam, knowledge, our desire, our activities, our experience of the activities is the most wonderful thing we have to explore. Let, just let me give you a hint so that you can know what is about to come in future. Suppose there is a Sattvika person. He is just given a small piece of toast no jam, no jelly and no butter nothing of that sort. Because his mind is filled with tremendous happiness even he offers it to the Divine Lord Brahmapanam and he eats it as if it is heavenly manna, heavenly food and he obtains heavenly happiness. Give it to a Rajasika person, says there is no jelly, there is no jam, there is no butter. This is a most horrible thing and everyday he wants a different thing and that is not possible at all. So his happiness will be much less but a Tamasika person because his mind is incapable of squeezing so he will only have dark happiness, what is called non-happiness, grumbling and unhappy and it will manifest itself in his reactions towards his family members and towards other people also. Just now a thought came to my mind, when a person is drunk, his whole way of outlook and action reaction, everything changes. So a person who is drunk with Tamas acts one way, drunk with Rajas acts another way, drunk with, that means seeped in Tamas, seeped in Rajas, seeped in Sattva, their entire life becomes changed. So what type of knowledge is that which makes a person Sattvika doer, Rajasika doer and Tamasika doer that's being said, now described about a doer in three verses, Sattvika, Rajasika and Tamasika 23rd verse 23rd verse 4 characteristics are mentioned here an ordained action done without love or hatred, by one not desirous of the ordinary fruit and completely free from attachment such a person such a doer is declared as a Sattvika doer Niyata means what this is not only duty, not only social duty, you know we have got all duties can be classified into three duties this is most important for us to understand, what are the three duties, first of all social duty, second of all family duty, third my individual spiritual duty so social familial and spiritual, we are all social animals we cannot live without other people and therefore we have to we have certain duties we grow up we are protected and we obtain our knowledge, everything and all these things are comprised in the Hindu concept of Panchamaha Igna so this is called Niyatam Karma Niyatam means what I have to fulfill my social duties what I have borrowed I have to give back at least if not more if a person is a householder or even a single person family is there, parents are there brothers and sisters are there or wife is there, husband is there, children are there most of the people are married people they have a very special duty, they must allot appropriate amount of time so that they can also fulfill family duties, but undue family attention is also undesirable undue social attention is also undesirable, that's what Ramakrishna used to discourage the world is so big, how much really can you help the world, in fact you can't even help yourself, therefore you do what best you can do but it is the Divine Lord who really can do but you do according to your squirrel's condition, the story from Ramayana comes, a squirrel saw Rama was building the bridge so it said, I also must do something because I love my Rama my Ishtadevata, so it dips itself in the water of the sea, comes onto the shore and rolls over the sand whatever sand sticks to its body, it goes and it tries to spread it over the bridge that is what people usually do Rama noticed it and he was highly pleased, he called the squirrel and passed his two fingers as a sign of affection or pleasure and that is why they say many Indian squirrels have got Rama's fingers there over its black body, anyway legend aside that everybody has the opportunity to contribute his own, we are all according to Vedanta debtors to five elements, we all know about it and getting rid of that debt is called Panchamaha Yagna so here that is social duties are part of the debt, then family duties, that is also to our parents, to our brothers and sisters, to our spouses, to our children to our friends etc close relatives etc we have some duty but no more, no less and then we have got we are also individuals we are not born with anybody nobody is born with us, we go alone, they go alone and where I go, this is only a small stop gap journey, understanding this, I will do my best to fulfill my destiny, that is I have to manifest my inherent divinity, this is called my individual duty, these three duties, that is called Niyatam Karma and scripture helps us do this, don't do, that is this is righteous, dharmic this is unrighteous, adharmic this is called Niyatam Karma and even while performing this idea came earlier also without any attachment what does it mean? It means whether I will do my best that doesn't guarantee that everything is done in the best possible manner, I can do only according to my capacity and I will not hesitate, I will not shrink from doing my own duties, but there may be many defects, doesn't matter, God doesn't see what defects are there, he sees whether I have done my best otherwise my own conscience feels prickly or guilty etc., it should not be there Sangarahitam, so I am doing this, that means I am a great man, no, no, no, you are not great, just you are doing your duties a person, an office worker, a factory worker, when they do they can't say I am doing great service they can only say you are being paid if you do your best and just you are doing your duty nothing else, so this is the outlook of a Sattvika person and then Afala Prepsuna Prepsu means desiring, Fala Prepsu means desiring the result Afala Prepsuna means not desiring the result, what does it mean? It means that I don't want any worldly result, a Sattvika person remember, I want only one result, I want to realize God, I want to manifest my divinity, that is the only goal and nothing else is my goal, that is why my mind becomes pure and the purer the mind becomes, the greater will be my understanding and correspondingly my longing that this world is a very unworthy thing for me God alone is worthy that understanding cannot come unless the heart is pure and all these activities in this described methods lead me to that Chitta Shuddhi, that is what is said Afala Prepsuna then while doing certain activities give me joy, certain activities are hard, for example getting up early in the morning, going to the Ganga, taking bath especially in the winter season so many activities are there they are very good spiritual activities very good social service activities but they are all filled with tremendous amount of what is called hardship so I develop certain things which will give me immediate happiness and I like them and I develop dislike because first of all it is very so much hardship is involved secondly the result is not coming immediately, only suffering is there immediately, that is why may be unconsciously we develop some kind of dislike for that kind of thing, so this Sattvika person he understands just this is my duty I have to do it and I will do it Raga Dvesha Taha, that is Raga means intense liking Dvesha means intense disliking and without falling an emotional break to likes and dislikes that is called Araga Dvesha Taha, Kritham this duty this prescribed duties Tat Sattvikam Uchate, that a Sattvika person when he becomes a doer his, this activities will be like that only, this is called what is called Sattvika action done, Sattvika action, Niyatam means what is enjoyed socially familially and spiritually both social sciences as well as spiritually, Sangarahitam that is I have to do it because it is good for me and I am going to progress I am the benefiter that is the attitude Araga Dvesha Taha and likes and dislikes are inevitable but I am not going to be an emotional slave I will retain my rationality and I will keep my mind even mindedness and any karma done by that Afala Prepsana means this what is called I do not desire ordinary result but I desire only what is called the highest type of result is there, such a karma is called Sattvika karma, such a person is also called Sattvika doer but I think I have mistakenly said these descriptions is not about the doer but the doing action, now when a Rajasika person does any action how does he do it the fourth verse that type of karma what is it? Karma is endowed with tremendous amount of hardship it produces tremendous amount of tiredness again I do it because I desire certain results otherwise I will not touch it with a what they call 20 feet barge pole I am the doer I want to be known throughout this world that I am a great doer, great organizer of worship great charity a person who gives charity any type of activity which is characteristic which contains these characteristics what is it? Kama, Ahankara and Bahulayasam three characteristics that is called Rajasika karma, that means Rajasika people when they do karma, any action these three characteristics are inevitably present but the action which is performed desiring results and with self-conceit and with much effort is declared to be Rajasika three characteristics, what are they? Kama Epsuna, Epsuna means desiring desiring what? Kama, fulfillment of certain desires Kama Epsuna, Phala Epsuna the desires of results desires of, desirer of desires, same meaning so I want, what does I want? I will do good actions try to avoid wrong actions but what for? I want to earn merit, Punya and what do you do with that Punya? not to go to God not to progress in spiritual life but to go to heaven and enjoy what do you enjoy there? very interesting one of my senior swamis told me one day very funnily said, bhai if a person goes to heaven what do you think he will get? exactly the same thing, there the buildings will be flawless buildings the climate will be flawless climate the food will be most marvellous what is it? you desire it, it is present with the amount of salt, with the amount of chilli, with the amount of spices, exactly what is called the AI created so much milk, so much of sugar or so much of black, so much of fat so much of coffee everything, so much of chicory, etc, etc exactly each person's likes this AI coffee maker learns in course of time and as this is called a futuristic scientific home dream home, what is it? the moment the man starts immediately the AI takes over, boss is coming, let us warm up the house, he likes this temperature and the whole house is there bathroom he requires this temperature TV room he requires as soon as he comes immediately most welcoming sweetest voice, male or female welcomes him door opens automatically and he enters into it because it recognizes him and as soon as he enters, this learns, what does my boss want to do, as soon as he enters he will enter, he would like to see the news or he would like to have a coffee or he would like to take some rest, whatever he wants to do for example, he wants to watch some news and relax so what is it that my boss is it eastern music western music what is called Korean music or Chinese music and it is classical music it is rap, it is stone, it is all this type of, immediately what channel of TV, what sports or is it natural things, what he wants everything it learns, automatically after few days perfect then does he like to drink tea or coffee and it will come and it will be just what the person wants, temperature is, food is and the type of entertainment he wants or he wants to contact some people, he wants to say hello to his parents, everything is done so marvelously somebody has made fun that in a hotel even the machines make everything for you and to avoid so that you don't need to drink that trouble also, they drink themselves, so this future homes will be like that, don't think this is all swargaloka this is exactly what happens in swargaloka and the men and women, they will never age they are only 18 years they enter as 18 years they are never, nobody is born everybody enters and then they will remain 18 until the credit card punya elapses and then what happens, the fellow forgets God, forgets the world and he is merged in this and then when the time comes, suddenly he finds himself tumbling down from heaven to this earth, then he what happened, this just one second back, that beautiful lady is embracing me and now I am falling down did she kick me, then somebody tells kindly, AI tells him no no no, your credit card is over it is the system created by the heaven, the moment that zero, ping is experienced and there will be a machine which will kick you instantaneously a door will open and you will fall down this is what the description of a Rajasika this karma and then not only that, this is called desiring desires what desires, not God but not unhappiness, but he wants only what he particularly likes, then ahankarena, tremendous amount of ahankara what a great person, I am a great ritualist I am a Brahmin this is what Shankaracharya is telling I am strong, nobody is equal to me, this is beautifully described, we have seen already in the 16th chapter in Asura nobody can be compared to me I am the greatest giver I am the greatest worshipper I am the greatest philanthropist etc etc these things I have attained, these things I am going to attain, these people I have eliminated, these people I am going to eliminate let us remember this is called Rajasika person and he wants that name and fame, sahankarena, even though he doesn't do much good and then all these things are accomplished with tremendous amount of hardship, gathering materials arranging them and doing them, but this person unlike Tamasika person is prepared to do it, Bahula Ayasa, so what are the three characteristics, he does everything and there is what is called a carrot is hanging he says if I do this I am expecting this result, if it doesn't come, he will be upset with everybody second, tremendous the ego, boosting the ego and I am the greatest nobody can be compared to me, I have done that, without me nothing could have been accomplished, then everything is done with great hardship point is does he get the result, yes because karma phala is inevitable, you do whatever action, good, bad, small big, the result is inevitable, inescapable but that knowledge which makes this person develop these characteristics is a mean type of knowledge no doubt he will go to heaven but he has to fall down, he will suffer many times and then the wisdom teeth comes late in life then he understands now I have to progress further again he takes up, that is what we will see in the next time, then we move into the 25th so what is a tamasika person's karma anubandham, kshayam, himsa anapeksha cha paurusham moha dharabhyate karma yat tat tamasam vachyate anubandham, kshayam, himsa anapeksha cha paurusham moha, five characteristics describe the actions activities undertaken by tamasika people so anubandham, kshayam, himsa, anapeksha cha paurusham moha dharabhyate karma yat tat tamasam vachyate that action is declared to be tamasika, which is undertaken through delusion without heed to the consequence loss of power or wealth, injury to others and one's own ability without considering one's own capacity or one's own ability and because of delusion these five characteristics that action which inevitably exhibits these five characteristics is definitely a tamasika action yat karma yat means that karma anubandham anubandham means thinking the pros and cons that is, if I do this can I do that? is it possible for me to complete it? and what are the plus and minus sides and can I avoid it? no, simply like as they say, a blind bull crashing into a china's shop anubandham then kshayam, what amount of loss he has to undergo he doesn't think about it there are some people they see the perks of being elected as an MLA or MP or anything and somehow they think in his egotism that there is a chance for him to be elected and then he spends so much of money ultimately he doesn't even get back his deposit this is what is called kshayam, his power his knowledge and his happiness and his savings everything can go if a person does is Krishna talking sense or nonsense? how many people have lost all their life's savings because of the greed not seeing the pros and not thinking, pros and cons and unthinking karma and they thought he is giving more interest so we will get more I still remember that several years back when I was in UK we have some money and we put it in the stock market but we are completely illiterate people with regard to playing the stock market so our headquarters have given directions that you cannot invest blindly only certain percentage you can some things must be safeguarded so directions are there for all charitable institutions but we have a marvelous stock broker and then there was a time just before the financial crunch had come that some companies were offering as high as 12% of interest and when the monthly meeting came and the stock broker because I was also thinking why not we invest into that and then he told, Swami first of all if other people are giving 3 or 4% and this company is offering, definitely you have to suspect there is something wrong so I will not approve I will not invest, second thing he said, very interesting only go with those companies who are most reliable and we know you may not get so much of interest but you will not lose the principal amount at all and then I was a little bit skeptical I have to admit but I did not argue with him and like this it continued for 2-3 years, sometimes occasionally thought comes maybe we could have earned more not because I wanted more money but I was doing giving it to Indian charities to our ashramas and others, quite a good amount of money so I thought if I get more I could distribute a little bit more then it did not happen then I think in 2009 or so this financial crunch came literally millions of people overnight have lost billions of, all together billions of, trillions of dollars have gone and then nothing happened to us, we did not lose a single penny the stock market value has gone down value, valuation yes we have lost but since we are not indulging in buying and selling it is only a book figure it never affected us so here is a person and what he doesn't think the pros and cons, beginnings and ends and whether he has got enough knowledge about all those things that is called kshayam, he is definite to lose anubandha means thinking pros and cons, kshayam means not, unable to imagine even what I am about to lose if I start this hinsa, that means there is tremendous amount of injury what is called harm that is done in whatever he undertakes and then interesting word paurusham paurusham means capacity, do I have
