Om Jananim Sharadam Devim Ramakrishnam Jagadgurum Pada Padme Tayo Shritva Pranamami Mohor Moho Om Vasudevasutam Devam Kamsa Chanuram Ardhanam Devaki Paramanandam Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum Sarvopanishadogavo Dogdha Gopalanandana Partho Vatsa Sudhirbhokta Dugdham Geetha Mritam Mahat Mokam Karoti Vachalam Pangum Langayate Girim Yad Kripatamaham Vande Paramanandamadham In our last class we have been studying the qualities of a person born with worldly tendencies. As we discussed earlier, among worldly people there are two classes are there. One class is live and let live. This is most of the people. Most of the people, they are good people, not selfish, not selfless. Live and let live is their philosophy in life and that's why the world is, in spite of all the projected evil news that we see every second of our life, is only highlighting a small percentage of the evilness that we see. Most of the people are good people. But this second type of people, they are powerful, they are evil, utmost wickedness manifests in them and not only they are evil, they have tremendous power of influence. This always makes me think and I cannot get the right answer. There are many spiritual people who want to brainwash and convert people into spirituality. Rarely they succeed. I remember a beautiful, funny incident in the life of Sri Ramakrishna. A young man suddenly seems to have started visiting Sri Ramakrishna and he must have been a very fortunate person. Sri Ramakrishna, grace had fallen upon him, he loved him very much. He used to feed him with lot of sweets, especially rasagullas. And after a few months, one day the man comes and says, Thakur, please bless me. And Thakur was a bit surprised and said, what for? Oh, I am going to get married, so please bless me. Sri Ramakrishna spoken out, aside shala, all my rasagullas have gone into the waste paper basket. After feeding so many sweets, ultimately this fellow comes and says, you please bless me, I am going to become a worldly person. Anyway, I don't know whether this thing really happened. Sri Ramakrishna was not such a naive person. So the second class of people we are talking about, we see all the news only about these people. So what did we discuss in our last class? Kamam, Ashritya, Dushpuram, Dambha, Mana, Mada, Anvitaha, Moha, Grihitva, Asad, Grahat, Pravartante, Ashuchivrataha. What type of people? Dambha, ostentation, Shoi, Mana, extreme egotism, Mada, extreme arrogance to the ninth degree. And then what else? Kamam, Dushpuram, insatiable, bottomless fit of desires, like the Raktabija that we get in the Durga Mahatmya Chandi Patha. One drop of the blood of this Raktabija Asura creates another one equivalent to it. That means one desire fulfilled, it immediately becomes strong and springs out more strong than earlier this one. Then what do they do? Moha, Ashritya, Asad, Grahat, taking this world as real, taking God, Dharma, Moksha as completely unreal. Ashuchivrataha, completely impure minded. Pravartante, they run the show. It seems it looks as if this is what is happening. And all the evil that we see in this world even now, making headlines everywhere, showing off their military prowess, etc. It is all done only by a very few number of people, countable by the fingers. But such is their power. Such is their influence. They run the newspapers. They run the advertisements. They make themselves as the highlighted figures everywhere. And that is what is happening. So we think that the whole world is purely evil. That's not so. Also, perhaps you know better than me, but you see, these are the people, evil people, trying to force everybody according to their interpretation of even religious books, all in the name of God, all in the name of religion, all in the name of right behavior, according to their own version of interpretation. Do they at least become happy? At least do they get peace of mind? No. Instantaneously, there are divisions and they are fighting against each other. So who will win? The fellow who seems to be more evil, more crooked, that fellow seems to be winning. So will he win in the end and also enjoy this world? Not at all. Dutch people also, as soon as they occupy the power, a hundred other people, intolerant, terribly jealous, they try to pull them down. Such is the divine play that is going on all around. So what happens? Asadgrahan means what? Worldly values, which are called Mithya, false values. What is it? The world is real. There is nothing other than the world. This life alone is real. We don't know any other life. Past is dead. Future is uncertain. Present alone is a milk cow. We have to milk as much as possible and enjoy it. And this is what is called a false value. Not only that, because they think that if we have money, what Sri Ramakrishna encompasses in two words, Kama and Kanchana means the entire range of worldliness, Mithyaness, the deludedness, delusion, is comprised in these two words. And they go on strengthening each other. Lust and plucker, wealth, sex and money. What do they do? If we have more money, then it will solve all our problems. In fact, most of the people, the more money, the more their minds become restless. That is going to be shown by the Lord very soon. But they think that external things, the body is secure, money gives me security, power gives me security, position gives me security, influence gives me security, doctors give me security. Sri Ramakrishna had quashed all these things with one of his beautiful sayings. So much of meaning is embedded in that. Sri Ramakrishna said that God laughs on two occasions. I suspect he laughs all the time. But anyway, for the sake of quotation, two occasions. On one occasion, two brothers are quarreling. This side of the land is mine. That side of the land is yours, dividing their paternal property. God laughs and says, the whole universe belongs to me. These foolish people think that this belongs to them. Okay. Then what is the second time? God has decided to take away a child's life. But the mother had taken refuge in a doctor. And the doctor says, don't worry. This is a small matter. I have treated so many of these people. I am going to treat this child. Very soon he will be free of it. Then God laughs. I decided to take away this child. And then this foolish doctor says that he is going to save. Through these two examples, Sri Ramakrishna is reminding, world means insecurity. Should we completely give up? Two factors we have to take into consideration. First of all, you cannot take it away. It is impossible. Secondly, they are there for a particular mission in life. They are there to make us understand. I do not belong to you. You do not belong to me. Mahamaya wants to teach this greatest lesson. Oh my child, I love you. But you belong to God. And you don't belong to me. Do not forge any relationship with me. That is the lesson. If you can learn nicely, quickly, intelligently, and the pain will be less. Otherwise, I will give you a lot of slaps and you will learn your lesson. There is no security at all. That is called holding on to Asad Grahan. Sat means that which is pure, that which is secure, and that is the Atman only. Nothing else. Anatman, entire Anatman, body, mind, and the whole world, that is called insecurity. So, holding on, what do these people do? So, there are wonderful teachings are there that is any dependence, dependence upon money, dependence upon power, position, doctors, or gods, anything, this is Sarvam, Paravasam, Dukham. Any dependence, dependence itself is a bondage. And what is it? Sarvam, Atmavasam, Sukham. Everything that is in one's own hand, that means one's own nature. I do not need any security because I am infinite. What can destroy me? There is nothing to destroy me. I am Sat, I am Chit, I am Ananda Swaroopa. This complete dependence upon what you call either the Atman or God, that is the greatest joy. A child never worries until he grows up and he imitates his father, mother, learns a lot how to worry, whole life is spent only. Whereas a Karma Yogi, a real devotee, what is his condition? This is beautifully described by one of the greatest Vaishnava saints called Kulasekhara Alwar. A beautiful book, Mukunda Mala Stotram. What is the attitude of this devotee? He says, Oh Lord, Yad Yad Bhaviyam Bhavatu Bhagavan Poorva Janma Karmanu Roopa According to the actions that I had performed in my previous life, whatever is to happen in this life, let it happen. Oh Lord, but I do not pray to you, you remove my Prarabdha Karma. What do I pray? Etad Prathyam Mama Bahumatham The only prayer, Bahumatham means I have no other desire excepting this. But this is my earnest prayer to you. What is Etad Prathyam? This is my only prayer to you. Janma Janmantaraipi You give me a billion births. I don't care. Tvat Padambhoruha Yuga Gatha Nischala Bhakti Astu May I have steadfast devotion Nischala Bhakti towards your lotus feet in every life. And you give me thereafter any type of birth. Even of a stone, of an insect, for how long? As many times as you wish to do that. I don't care. But do not deprive me of this devotion. Oh Lord, such a beautiful sentiment is always cherished by devotee. Even if the devotee does not earnestly pray for this type of bhakti, but he knows. This is the goal. Today or tomorrow or after a hundred births, I have to acquire this kind of mental, spiritual attitude. And let me have only complete reliance upon God, complete self-surrender to God. That is called devotion according to Sri Ramakrishna. And this is the only thing worth praying to God. So what do these people do? These asuras, their desires have no end. And then they depend upon the world thinking that fulfillment of a desire is the highest goal in human life. And when I fulfill, I will be very happy. Not knowing, as Swamiji had said, that if the desires increase in arithmetical proportion, then the suffering increases in geometrical proportion. So what happens? For the description, I will read the verses. Pralayanta means pralaya occurs. What are we talking about? What pralaya are we talking about? Pralaya here means until pranas depart from this body, until death comes to this body, what happens? Whole life is filled with what? Chintam aparimayam. Immeasurable. That means innumerable worries. And in our Bhagavatam, there is a beautiful story. Ramakrishna had taken it up and he used to cite it so many times. And if I remind you, people will understand. There was a king. This is a story from Bhagavatam. This king came across a wandering monk and immediately understood that this monk is a great realized soul. The very presence of that saint had given him that insight. Then he humbly makes pranam to him and asks, Sir, you seem to be a great realized soul. Now you tell me, who taught you, who gave you this tremendous knowledge? And then he says, Oh my king, you have asked the right question. I did not receive this knowledge through one particular guru. I had 24 gurus are there. 24 gurus. And one guru was a kite. One day I was travelling and there was a kite and somehow it got a piece of meat and so many crows had espied it and then it started running after this kite wherever it goes. There is a caw, caw, caw making nuisance sound. These crows will fly after it until accidentally that piece of meat had fallen from the mouth of the kite and as soon as that meat had fallen, immediately all the crows left the kite in peace and then they ran after that piece of meat and then the kite sat and in great peace. Ramakrishna took up this and weaved a beautiful story and he was a master storyteller in his own beautiful way and he explains what is this piece of meat? Desire. And then what are the crows? That is, all the worries that I come before acquiring how to, how can I acquire it? It is a wonderful thing. This imagination flares up. Of course it is good in a way that is how samsara runs otherwise very difficult to run it. So, this is how it happens and once a person acquires then there is a worry. First of all, how to be in harmony with this thing? Secondly, how can I keep it so that I will not lose it? This is called these hopes and expectations. Hope to get something, expect to keep it up and these are all nothing but different types of worries and Shri Ramakrishna illustrates in so many ways. So, this is what happens Chintam Aparimeyam Pradayantam until death comes. Now, you may ask, what happens after death? Will he be free from this? No. Depending upon what he did either he goes to heaven or he goes to hell and then after sometime he will again be reborn. He will start exactly where he put his bookmark with his samskaras and the same thing. This is what Shri Ramakrishna used to say that a person goes to take bath in the pure Ganga and all the sins cannot approach and they will be occupying the branches of the trees which were on the bank of the Ganges. As soon as the bathing is over, he comes out, they jump onto his shoulders. What is he talking about? The Ganges has the purifying power for temporarily only because the samskaras the man is carrying. One samskara he carries into the river this river is holy it will make me pure and it will give me some punya. But as soon as he comes out all his worries of the family parents, friends his job, everything and our devotees, all of you must have noticed that nowadays everything is insecure. Job is insecure family life is insecure even peace in one's country is insecure everything the whole universe is becoming more and more and more insecure. So this holding onto that insecurity, feeling falsely, this is called shobhana dhyaya. That is sweet delusion. That if I get married, all my problems a young man, if I pass this get PhD, then my life will be full of happiness. This is one aspect of shobhana dhyaya sweet delusion. Then if I can secure a good job, then there will be no problem at all and then he does it. Then all that remains is if I can get married and settle down with some sweetest children, then the poor fellow doesn't understand problem starts with birth with growth with youth, with old age with disease with decay and with death. These are called shaturmi sixfold waves vikalpas shatvikalpas changing all the changing and every changing has its own set of worries that is why it is said in the Mohamudgara that is balasthavat kridasataha. A child is completely immersed in playing and if something happens to a doll, if the neighbor takes away the doll or the doll is broken and this fellow's, this child's heart is broken, of course temporarily then he grows up tarunahatavat taruniraktaha a young man thinking of a young woman and the young woman is thinking of a young man and both of them under this sweet delusion if we can secure each other get married to each other we will be happy forever that is why you must have noticed, I make fun that as soon as marriage is over, shubhamastu, all cinemas they don't want to depict that the real cinema starts only after that at home so this is this is how things happen a few years back one couple used to come to meet me from Reading and they were newly married just probably one or two years and then they were very devoted people I asked them what are you doing? Shubhamaji, we decided to read Mahabharata, oh up to where did you come? for the last six months we have been reading, we have come now to the Kurukshetra war so I asked them, did you come to the Kurukshetra war? and then wife looked at the husband and said Swamiji next day after marriage Kurukshetra has started rare are the people, couple who do not quarrel at all because two separate minds but that is why seven marriage vows we will be in harmony, we will strive our best to look after each other, to love each other, to live a dharmic life, righteous life and then we will be progressing in life until we reach God we will be co-pilgrims helping each other and then if someone fumbles we will give supporting each other etc, most marvellous seven marriage vows are there so this is, then you see when a person becomes middle aged he starts getting worried, everything then when he becomes old this is what is called Vriddha Tavat Chintamagnaha endless worries, I should have done that I should not have done that I could have done that I could not have done that like that only looking backward never looking forward so even a sanyasi he worries, where am I going to get my bhiksha tomorrow so there is a beautiful song that Brahma quarrelled with Saraswati, Vishnu quarrelled with Mahalakshmi so many times and this Puran has come, that is how Tirupati has come, so Shiva also quarrelled with Parvati I think I have told you a funny story so one day Parvati approached Shiva and said Lord everybody is quarrelling including Lakshmi and Vishnu, Saraswati and Brahma, I don't want us to quarrel, Shiva pretended innocence and said how do you want to accomplish it my dear and then she said if we become half half inseparably all the time one, half body half body, then there is no chance for our separation nobody can separate it so Shiva said try it and then immediately they became Ardhanareeshwara then what happened one day they were sitting and a devotee came and seeing, first made Sastang pranams and then oh Lord please save me please save me, he shouted out and then Shiva said Tathastu, I will definitely save you, you are my great devotee immediately Parvati got up and said no no no, he is asking me I will save him, Shiva said how come he prostrated in front of me Parvati said no no, you are mistaking, he prostrated in front of me and they started quarrelling two minds harmony is difficult, only in God, when they see God in each other, then only these things will, so every stage of life, every human being is worried so that is what is telling Pralayantham until body falls away, temporarily there will be a relief for a very short time Chintamaprapen, and then what is their goal in life Kama Upabhoga instead of saying Dharma and Moksha because they do not see, they do not believe what they do not see, they do not believe Kama Upabhoga acquire things for enjoyment and start enjoying them and this is the goal of life so we said with innumerable cares which will end only with death looking on the gratification of desire as their highest goal and feeling sure that that is all that is the highest goal in life, these are called materialistic persons, these are called Charvakas in Indian philosophical language so what happens to him bound by hundred ties of hope given up wholly to lust and wrath, they strive by unjust means to amass wealth for the satisfaction of their passions, now we see this one, literally come true, one company wants to compete with the other company by hook or crook, by killing or by introducing somethings wrong or by stealing the trade secrets, by hook or crook or by any means right or wrong or whatever it is their philosophy is the means the ends are justified by any means they do not believe that the ends if they are not justified by the means, then the inevitable consequences will come this is called the law of karma but these people, they don't believe in rebirth, therefore they don't believe in karma phala, whatever chance is there, this is the only chance and that's what we want to do it, so bound by 100 ties of hope, 100 means not 100 100 means innumerable given up wholly to lust and wrath, what is it we want to acquire and we want to enjoy, they strive by just or unjust means to amass wealth for the satisfaction of their passions, so do they come to the end of their worries, even if they become the wealthiest persons even if they become the most powerful persons on earth see usually I don't want to talk about politics, but as an illustration I am giving one of the most powerful persons on earth is the president of USA this man had hard won victory and then see what happens, everybody's arrows are directed towards them, you took a wrong decision and you made millions of people literally go through lot of suffering etc and you are the root cause of all their suffering and you have encouraged all them, one person is in power, but he doesn't have the wisdom and very few people will have that wisdom everybody is not a Dharmaraja so everybody makes mistakes, so even the highest position just imagine, do you think that this person is a Jeevanmukta after reading after hearing all this unwanted criticism, he will just lie down and next second he is deeply asleep, this is the condition of the people and this idea, the condition of these people is beautifully described in the Mundaka Upanishad which we had gone through avidhyayam antare vartamanah, always roaming round and round in the circle of only ignorance and delusion, but swayam dheerah panditam anyamanah, considering in their own opinion, they are the greatest pundits very wise people janganyamanah pariyantimudah, like blind people going round and round in a dark place, andhenaiva niyamanah, not only they are going round and round, but they are also leading other people to go round and round people, these are the worldly people, materialistic people and at one point Ramakrishna told them I saw Kolkata people, pokas poka means insects running after only eating, drinking, sex and nothing else these are miserable people but there is something wrong also, unfortunately they are the people who have become leaders of the society so called celebrities and like sheep other people follow them these people, whatever dress they wear, that becomes fashion they also convert other people to become materialistic to follow their footsteps how many celebrities have become mad, how many celebrities are attempting to commit suicide how many celebrities are drug and drink addicts only when they flash for a short time, they see nicely dressed and acting their action and their true life are completely opposite poles, but other people are really blind like the blind led by the blind and those people are also influenced, they have got tremendous power of influence, I don't know why evil people, they can brainwash other people, but for a good person to brainwash even one person is going to be extremely difficult and what is their philosophy that this is all nothing else is there, don't look if there is something, then we have to strive, when there is nothing there is nothing to strive at all that is it life is only enjoy and they are shackled with Raga and Dvesha infinite number of attachments etc so they are bound by endless amount of hopes and expectations means strings shackles not only physical but also mental in the form of attachments so there is no end for them at all whereas when a person is endowed with spiritual wisdom by the grace of God so what does he say O Lord, I do not own anything, I also do not belong to myself the entire world is created by you, I am also one of the created things so along with the world, I also belong to you and everything belongs to you and if at all I am enjoying something, I am owning something, I use them only with your grace because you permit me to have it you are self-filled O Divine Mother and everything runs according to your desire O Mother, you create you sustain and you again take them back recycle them so this is your great divine sport that is going on this is the firm unchangeable opinion of a person endowed with what we call spiritual qualities and he becomes very humble person and he only looks for always, do I have any faults so how can I get rid of them am I deviating from Dharma then let me correct myself am I forgetting God O Lord, please punish me, this is the worst punishment forgetful Virahe Yuga Sahasrabad Narada Bhakti Sutras, I don't remember exactly one second's separation from God is felt by such a devotee as though a thousand aeons have passed in the greatest suffering tremendous restlessness comes over such a person unfortunately nowadays these are the people who have filled the society really no as I said 99.99% of the people they are live and let live but unfortunately that small percentage of people occupy the position of influence and they go on trying to brainwash you must put on this dress, you must talk like this you must listen to this kind of music, you must read this kind of books, you must behave like this and whatever goes against your selfishness kick them there is friends, parents family, these values do not exist at all and people are becoming more and more influenced by these people so Lord Buddha he said life is full of misery but there are some people who value is Buddha valued because he was a king do we revere Buddha because he was born a prince no, we revere him because he renounced everything in India at least in many other countries also there are people who a few number of people they are spiritually oriented people they only revere saints sages, spiritual people they pay homage only to the Divine Lord this beautiful utterance of the Rishi in the Upanishads neither by artha and kama nor having lot of children nor having lot of wealth a person attain immortality only tyagena tyaga means what not giving up giving up the notion that these will bring me happiness giving up the notion that they are the highest ends, giving up the notion that there they bring security and happiness in life, giving up these false views is called tyaga, that is what Sri Ramakrishna had turned the whole Gita, when you repeat it very fast, then you get the idea, Gita becomes tagi, tagi means oh man, give up this false notion, give up your avidya, you don't need to give up anything with the idea oh Lord, the whole world belongs to you, I also belong to you, this is called spiritual attitude, I am your child, I am your servant I am a devotee I am a jnani and realized souls keep this what Sri Ramakrishna calls the egotism of a knowledge I am thy child you have given me this knowledge you have given me this bhakti without you it is impossible to get it so these are completely opposed, now these people innumerable insatiable desires worries and then everything is that if you get more money if you acquire more objects your life will be very secure etc not knowing people can die in police cells people can die in pathala people can die in aeroplanes people can die in their own beds comfortably lying down after having a beautiful dinner etc but what to do kama krodha parayana they are given to desires and anybody, anything that thoughts that takes away from the acquisition, they become like rakshasas, it could be parents, it could be children it could be family members it could be friends, it could be country, they will renounce everything like a straw because whatever doesn't cater to their own selfishness that should be given up that is their philosophy, kama krodha parayana, they are completely devoted to kama means desire, krodha means they get angry and they think they are justified as the ultimate goals of life so what do they do with this kind of mentality ihante, ihante means they desire, desire what? to acquire wealth, to acquire objects, to acquire jobs to acquire security etc, so what do they do? they are busy what do they do? they work all the time, what do they do? they work 12 hours 14 hours, 16 hours it is not very well recognized, some devotee asked me I am thinking of starting a business is it advisable, what is your advice I said that what is wrong with your present job are you getting threatened the person said no present job so far as it is, everything is temporary, job also is temporary company is also temporary but at the moment I don't see but I can earn more money I said, if you are working in the office as soon as office work is over, may be even 12 hours, after that you can take off your mind from the office and pay attention to your family, to yourself to your parents, to society, to your hobbies, everything but the moment you start business, 24 hours you have become a what is called a slave a puppet in the hands of your business, never a devotee should start a business if it can be helped, business is the worst type of work anybody can attempt because the workers don't care the people who are connected do not care, they will be plotting against you but at the same time 24 hours you are thinking this has gone wrong or what can I do to improve these are the thoughts, where is the time for you to think about God to do Sandhya Vandana to sit and have Satsanga this is happening even in our devotees life, but to speak of other people, so through their desires, these people they are ready to offer their very life in the form of working hard and this become in course of time, but for colleagues, so Artha Sanchaya, they want to amass wealth, as I said 50% of life is spent in amassing wealth the other 50% of the life is spent in paying to the doctors fees etc and to regain good health there was no time absolutely to enjoy it at all whereas what about a spiritual person he is a Adhyatmika Sadhaka so he earns what is necessary and he owns less simple life, simple living but high thinking so that is what is being said here, just to recollect what we have spoken of earlier beset with innumerable cares which will end only with death looking on the gratification of desire as the highest goal and feeling sure that life is only that bound by 100 ties of hope given up only to lust and wrath, they strive by unjust means to amass wealth for the satisfaction of their positions and try to keep their power, their position etc they have absolutely not an centimetre of place in their hearts to think of higher things like God, Dharma other world etc further we are talking about the second class of people, now in the following three verses Krishna is talking about the thought pattern of these materialistic persons, here are persons belonging to the second category who are cruel who are selfish, who are called demonic and by hook or crook they want to amass wealth and they might succeed if they are clever temporarily for the time being because they do not believe in the law of karma that sooner or later the law of karma is going to catch up with them, as you sow, so also you reap, so what do they say in these three or four verses the Lord is describing this much I have gained today and that longing I will fulfil this wealth is mine and that also shall be mine in future what does it mean? so this much wealth today I have acquired I have earned, I have profited but I have lot of desires in the coming days in the coming future in the next future I am going to fulfil, there is no doubt about it, stupid fellows do not know that any second death can come and yet they go on thinking death is never ever going to come, remember in the Aksha Prashnas we are going to come soon to that beautiful question what is the most wonderful thing in this world and then Yudhishthira replies every single day creatures, living creatures that means they die and they go to the abode of Yama, this is again part of those who believe there is an afterlife so those who believe in the law of karma, we all go to the Yama, Yama Loka and meet Yama's clerk, Chitragupta and he has got a credit and debit accounts of what we have done in the whole life and at one glance you can see what good we have done what evil we have done and then he decides what is going to be our future it is not that a person just dies but some people believe, some people do not believe and this category of people we are talking about they do not believe, egos as long as death doesn't come and it will come only on the 100th year in the December 31st I will have first class dinner and then I go to bed and then this prana will depart from the body, death will come so this much I have gained today and this is what I am going to gain my heart desire will be is going to be fulfilled now I have so much in my hand and other wealth, a lot of wealth is going to come into my hands very soon this I have gained today and that mental longing I have is going to be fulfilled soon, this much wealth is mine right now and I want more wealth and that also shall be mine in future so these are the people who are busy accumulating what is their philosophy? you go to any so called western mentality, what is it? they don't even have time to speak to you leisurely what do they say? time is money that means what? I want money so the more time I spend on money, that is the worth spending and the moment I go on chit chatting with you everything is a waste of time talking about God talking about the society talking about justice talking about welfare of other people all these are sheer complete waste of my time don't waste my time like that I remember a beautiful incident lot many many years back, it came in the radius register there was a father and he was completely busy, I think he might have been a lawyer, I do not remember exactly and he will count what is called the fees by the second so he had a son and he wants to play with his father and of course the father was loving to the child and he gives him what is called pocket money and that money this person is putting in a piggy bank and after 30 days or 35 days one day the child creeps into the office when the father is very busy and says daddy I want something from you and then father says I am very busy my son, I can't talk with you now, then this child empties his piggy bank and says daddy I know you spend so much of money you charge so much of money when people come for your advice, that's why I have been accumulating, this will give me at least 20 minutes of your time I want to spend with you, 20 minutes here is your money, the father was shocked he told my child you go to home and then I will come and meet you afterwards and weeping and sobbing the child goes and after some hours the father creeps into the bedroom and he peeps in and saw the child with tear laden eyes putting his finger in his mouth the baby put himself to sleep and then the father sits and he writes a letter I do not remember the exact letter one of the most moving letters I have ever read it says my son forgive me, I have become completely blind, this is the what is called essence of what the letter means I take a vow that from tomorrow I will spend 2 hours with you, let the money go to hell when I cannot make my own son happy, what is the good of all this money you have opened my eyes to the value of love to the value of family relationship and then from that day that person's life has completely changed, the child has opened, it's one of the most precious things I have read, a child teaching that the value of family life, value of money these people, their time is money, they don't have time for the family and they don't have time even at least for their own enjoyment, we have seen earlier, this miser is one, neither he distributes, he shares his wealth with others, at least do you enjoy, no, he doesn't have time for his enjoyment also, so this is the type of person, this much I have gained today and I am going to gain the rest of it as if death is not going to come, so much wealth I have got at hand now in my bank account and so much I am going to get, in this connection also some subashitas beautiful wise sayings, wonderful wise sayings are there, so I do not remember again the shloka my memory is becoming a bit corrupted but the essence of it is there, when a person wants to pursue learning, scholarship as if there is no death at all there is no aging at all as if infinite time is available with that attitude but when a person wants to practice spiritual life, dharma then as if death is next second death is going to strike me down and that is the end of my life, it is a very good exercise, just stop for a second and say if the next minute brings me nearer to death what am I going to be doing, what thoughts are going to occupy my mind but unless we practice this for a long time it is not possible, only worries and other things will be coming, moving on to the 14th verse the thoughts of these people who have acquired something some wealth, some power some position when they are in that condition they can do some harm to others, then these are the types of thoughts that come asau maya hataha shatruhu ha nishye cha aparanapi ishvaroham aham bhogi siddhoham balavan sukhi that enemy I had already finished and there are others too and I am going to slay them whenever I get the first opportunity after all I am the lord of everybody, I enjoy I am prosperous, I am mighty and I am happy these are some of the what is called avidya maya ignorant thoughts, not knowing what is going to happen the very next second I will just remind you today one small story, there were two kshatriya heroes were there siblings, brothers extremely powerful so once there was a war between the gods and demons and the gods were slowly losing, always you will see Hindu mythology filled with this, the gods will always lose but there is a reason for that because as soon as they get power they become slaves, they use others to do their work they become addicted to luxury they become weak physically, mentally, intellectually spiritually in every way and that is the opportunity the others are looking the uncouth people are looking, who are called asuras, immediately with their physical and mental will power and strength, remember these people are not prepared, they are prepared even to die, that is the how many good people are there I will die in the cause of my religion, my country no, but here are suicide bombers, for the sake of their religion all out of a mistaken notion, they are ready to die themselves, so these two people were requested by Indra and they go and they fight against and they defeat and the gods were restored to their kingdom, then Indra became very pleased and then he says in gratitude, I want to offer some bones to you so he asked the eldest and he said, give me this wealth that wealth and then Indra granted, smiling and immediately that fellow rushed back to earth, only to find several thousand years had passed there was no family, there was no known person at all the second one was wiser and then he, instead of asking, he said first tell me, how long am I going to live, he said, you are going to live for a few seconds only then he said, what am I going to do with all this wealth, grant me the way, tell me the way how I can attain Lord Hari and Indra says, earnestly surrender yourself to him, pray to him and by his grace, you will be able to attain even within these 5 seconds that is the basis of Parikshit obtaining Mukti in 7 days after hearing the Bhagavatam and Indra grants him that wisdom and immediately attains to the Mukti and got all his problems solved, these are the wonderful counter thoughts, what we are discussing today, we will discuss it tomorrow. Om Vasudevasudham Devam Kamsachanuramardhanam Devaki Paramanandam Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum May Ramakrishna Holy Mother and Swami Vekananda bless us all with Bhakti, see you all tomorrow.
