OM JANANIM SHARADAM DEVYAM RABHA KRISHNAM JAGAD GURUM PADAPADMETAYO SRIDHVA PRANAMAMI MUHURMUHU VASUDE VASUTAM DEVAM KAMSACHANURAM ARTHANAM DEVAKI PARAMANANDAM KRISHNAM VANDE JAGAD GURUM SARVO PANISHADO GAVO DOGDA GOPALANANDANA PARTHO VACCHA SUDHIR BHOKTA DUGDHAM GEETAM RITAM MAHAT MOOKAM KAROTI VACHALAM PAMKUM LANGAYATE GIRIM YATHKURIPAATHA MAHAM VANDE PARAMANANDA MADHAVAM Yesterday we had completed what is called Hrihi, modesty in the 16th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. We also have taken up what is called absolute serenity or restfulness. Hrihi means modesty, Lajja. Shankara interprets it as AKARYA NIVRUTTI HETHU GARHA NIMITTA MANOVRUTTI When a person does something unscriptural, unrighteous, he feels terribly ashamed of himself for doing that. That quality is very necessary for every spiritual aspirant and that is called Hrihi. Also it means modesty in dress, in talk, in behavior and in taking the actions and reactions of the world, whatever comes to the world, without getting too much upsets or setups, etc. We also in greater detail discussed what is called ACHAPALATVAM. Chapala means restlessness and we compared Swami Vivekananda's analogy of a monkey which was drunk with wine of desires, stung by the terrible sting of jealousy and possessed by the strongest demon called Ahankara or pride. So we discussed and that means mind control. Mind, whatever be the circumstances, to control the mind. Why? Because when we are asleep, there is no need to control the mind. It has merged itself, rising above all dualities. That's why it is full of bliss. So it is called ANANDA MAYA KOSHA. Similarly, if a person succeeds in controlling his mind, he will experience with full awareness the same ANANDA MAYA, excessive bliss because he looks upon everything as nothing but God. What is the real cause? What is the apparent cause and real cause for this restlessness of the mind? The apparent cause is it has tremendous amount of desires but that's not the real cause. The real cause is the mind instinctively knows I am Brahman, I am the infinite, I am the eternal, I am not limited by anything and I want to be my own self and it is trying various wrong means like fulfilling the desires of the sense organs or even there are peculiar desires particular only to the subtle mind, subtle body like name, like fame, etc. or knowledge even aesthetic knowledge, intellectual knowledge, moral knowledge even leading a moral life but these are all limited though comparatively they give higher joy than anything physical, Vishayananda. So Medhananda, Kalananda and Dharmananda definitely will give infinitely more amount of happiness than any physical object can give but any addition of finities cannot make one infinite. At last the mind realizes that I am none other than the divine and then only the restlessness will become completely resolved into its cause which is its true nature and this is what we discussed mind control is very very difficult. Now we are entering into the 21st spiritual quality called Tejaha. Tejaha means spiritual splendor, aura. So what does Shankara say? Gives a very beautiful explanation Tejaha pragalbhyam na tvak gatha deepthi Tejas or vigour is not the brightness of the skin but that special manifestation of inner knowledge which pours out through every pore of the body. I mentioned also certain incidents how light used to emanate from every pore of Shri Ramakrishna's body. So that same thing applies to Holy Mother, Swami Vekananda etc. Nobody could look into the eyes of Swami Vekananda. They will be burning bright. Anyway since the topic has come I just remembered one beautiful incident. There was one devotee, disciple, both devotee and disciple of Holy Mother His name was Apoorva Anandaji. He served Mahapurush Maharaj for a long time both as his secretary and also attendant. So once when he was a young boy he went to Udbodhan, the house where Holy Mother used to stay which Sharda Anandaji had built especially for her and had darshan. Being a young boy, Holy Mother immediately allowed him to come near. So she asked him on one such occasion to sit to her left side where other male devotees especially they are allowed to come, touch her feet take the dust off her feet and get her blessings. Sometimes by the amount of purity these devotees exhibit she touches even the chins of some of these male devotees but her veil will be almost covering her face. But Apoorva Anandaji is narrating I could see from the side her eyes they were burning like the eyes of Mother Kali. I got frightened. He had many one marvelous divine visions of Holy Mother even before he got initiated etc. So there is this Teja. Teja is something which no person in this world can withstand. When such a person, a great Rishi comes near then that very Teja will prevent other people sometimes even from opening their mouths accepting demons. So a person who has got this kind of Teja there is really speaking no equivalent English word for this excepting saying spiritual light emanates from every pore of his body. So this is what we also have seen while discussing the 14th when Sattva Guna increases true knowledge also increases and as if light is emanating from every pore of the body. Please refer to the 14th chapter just two chapters earlier than this chapter. So Tejas is a spiritual splendor. Those who live a life of purity however weak they may appear their bodies may be of the most fragile type they may appear even if you breathe down hard they will float away or your air will move them out. But there is some indescribable but a definite quality which can prevent anybody taking advantage of any of these great souls. So when a person sincerely strives to lead a life of purity consisting of continence, prayer, contemplation truthfulness and righteousness they acquire this splendor. Every spiritual seeker is advised to acquire this divine quality by Lord Krishna. What do we acquire? After all it will come because it puts a tremendous barrier between impure people and pure people. In course of this talk I will give you some examples too. Often we see in the pictures of saints and holy people a halo surrounding their heads. This is symbolic of their spiritual splendor. It is said, some examples I am giving Lakshadheeram, the father of Sri Ramakrishna used to be so much revered like a Rishi and whenever he walks in the streets of Kamarpakur and that must have happened in their village also nobody would dare to sit by the roadside and if somebody is talking shop then immediately they shut their mouths until he passes out of sight. They could not do but stand up and show reverence. I remember a beautiful incident and Bhagavan Buddha himself was narrating this type of thing. At one time of his sadhana Bhagavan Buddha was staying with five other great people who were practicing the severest austerities and before he became Buddha his name was Gautama or Siddhartha and this Gautama he was outdoing them in everything and so they had highest reverence but then one day Gautama went to take a bath in the nearby river he had no strength of the body he went into the river but he could not come out at that second it was revealed to him extreme measures of whatever it is austerity or whatever is not advisable it is not a great help some amount of austerity is very great help not extreme austerity for its own sake that is why Bhagavan Krishna condemns those Rakshasas demonic people so these people torture me because who is inside us? only God by not taking food and torturing this body they are really torturing such people are demons and these people they have to be in this Mahamaya in this transmigratory world for a very very long time so this Buddha was renounced by these five brother disciples and then Buddha had worked out finally that it is not possible through this kind of austerity they are of help but beyond certain limit they are counterproductive anyway at last he attained through complete Dhruti which we are going to discuss in future so he attained illumination then he thought to whom shall I propagate these teachings, this pathway by which people can more or less easily attain illumination because Buddha was talking about after illumination he was called Buddha Buddha means an awakened person or his name was also Tathagata Tathagata that means he attained to that state Agata he reached the state of self-realization by whatever name you choose to call so he thought these five brother disciples they were worthy people but they were laboring under some wrong concept let me go and correct them they will be able to progress through this path so he knew where they were he approached them he was approaching them and from a distance these five people who were sitting they saw and he said this is the fallen Gautama let us not respect him let us not get up let us not talk with him let us not offer him a seat so they determined but as Buddha was nearing they could not help something overpowered them so one person went welcome, welcome Siddhartha he welcomed him another person fetched a seat and made him sit another person fetched water etc for him to wash and drink so whatever they decided not to do they were forced to do that is all because of this Teja, splendor then the first sermon of Buddha had been taught to these five people and it is said as soon as Buddha finished his Upadesha talk immediately all the five as if a great obstacle had been rolled away and immediately they became illumined themselves so this is something called Kshudiram was having that and nobody could even if they are nastikas they could not but help themselves stand up and revere him etc so they would stand stand up with folded hands until he was out of sight when some people were taking bath as soon as they say hastily they get out and until he finished his bathing they would not dare because lest their touch should pollute the water in which Kshudiram was bathing now what about Sri Ramakrishna so it is said of Sri Ramakrishna that a divine light would come out of his body Sri Ramakrishna himself said there was such beauty then that people used to stare at me the chest and the face used always to be red as if a light emanated from the body as people used to stare I always kept the body covered with a thick wrapper and asked the Divine Mother importunately Mother here is your external beauty Mother please take it back and give me instead internal beauty I used to pass my hand over the body slapping it again and again and saying go in go in as the result of this exterior became pale as you see it it is said of Jesus Christ that he spoke like one with authority and not like the scribes what about Swamiji or Swami Vivekananda the newspapers reported that he spoke with divine authority we came across many such instances in the life of practically every saint we revere what about the greatest one of the greatest spiritual luminaries that adorned the sky of India Ramana Maharshi in the presence of Ramana Maharshi the minds of every visitor used to become by itself quiet without any effort on their part so we are talking about Tejas spiritual splendor Tejas may also be translated as spiritual power not only splendor but power those who have had higher spiritual experiences exude a special power albeit unconsciously whatever they speak has a great power of bringing about a real and lasting transformation in sincere devotees but spiritual power is not like political or economical or military powers which are likely to cause more harm than good if we open our eyes and look around us we see how much these people in power when they are fanatics terrorists or politically motivated completely selfish people they are misusing their power bringing misery untold misery upon billions of people Sri Ramakrishna said in the Purana it is said that it was as if a hundred suns were shining when Rama used to enter the court and why then were not the courtiers burnt up Sri Ramakrishna himself raised this question it was because the brilliance of Rama was not like that of a material object it is pure spiritual light as the lotus blooms when the sun rises so the lotus of the hearts of the people assembled in the court burst into blossom spiritual splendor or it is also called Brahma Tejas soothes and confers blessings on all fortunate fortunate enough to come near such a person such a splendor can only help but never harm Sri Ramakrishna mentioned the incident of Sri Rama entering into Dandakaranya there were 64,000 Rishis and as soon as their eyesight beheld Rama for the first time they became mad for the love of God and were born as a result to savour the highest form of love called Madhura Bhakti so Sri Rama asked them now you be born as women because only a woman's heart is most suited to reach the highest Parakastha as we say of this spiritual love this is called Madhura Bhakti and Sri Ramakrishna who he practiced it and meditated for that purpose on Sri Radha became identified with her and even became like a woman even in his physical nature it is a matter of fact in the history so whenever we meditate upon Sri Ramakrishna also we utter this beautiful mantras composed by Swami Abed Anandaji Hridaya Kamalamathye Rajitam Nirvikalpam Sada Sada Kila Bheedadheetam Ekaswaroopam Prakruti Vikruti Shunyam Nithyam Anandamurthim Vimala Paramahamsam Ramakrishnam Vajamaha there are many verses usually three of them are selected at the time of puja so this is also on the spiritual form of Sri Ramakrishna we are contemplating we come across many spiritual prayers in the Upanishads for endowing a sincere aspirant with the spiritual splendor for example many of us are familiar with this peace chant Shanti Mantra Sahanaavavathu Sahanaubhunakthu Sahaveeryam Karavavahai Tejasvinau Adheetamastu that Tejas what is that Tejas as a result of studying and understanding and practicing both the teacher as well as the students will be endowed with a special light that is called Tejas Ma Vidvishavahai in complete accord with each other and added to it in the Upanishads we have a direct prayer to the Divine and this should be uttered by every devotee every single day so there are many but only six I have chosen you are of the nature of splendor, you are not having splendor, you are that splendor so we have to understand all these things please grant me a wee bit of that Tejas, you are Viriya an inconceivable valor, grant me a bit of that valor Balamasi, you are both physical, mental, strength what is called Grithi so give me a bit of that strength so I will not fall out in the course of spiritual practice you are of the nature of Brahma Tejas Oja means, Swami Vaikaranda explained, as a result of practicing sexual continence a person develops a very special type of power that is called Ojas and this Ojas and faith in God, faith in the scriptures, faith in oneself is totally related to this Ojas, you are of the nature of Ojas and that is why this dwelling in Brahman is called Brahmacharya, one who is thinking of Brahman enjoys Brahmananda therefore his mind is not likely to be tempted by anything else because whatever we are tempted to experience is only for one purpose nobody loves any object excepting as a means of happiness or pleasure, so Brahman is not an object but it is the very embodiment of Ananda Sat Chit Ananda Saagara, therefore O Lord, grant me a little bit of that Ojas so that I can experience that tremendous Ananda Mannu Rasi Mannu Maidhi, you are of the embodiment of anger what is anger? it is just the opposite of what we call worldly anger if something is obstructing the manifestation of divinity our attitude towards that obstruction is called Mannu God never gets angry he is not like a human being but he like a surgeon if necessary he will cut off what is called obstructive diseased parts to restore full health to the person so God's punishment what we call suffering is only a process of restoration making us whole and capable of leading our lives in the right way again, Mannu Rasi Mannu Maidhi, that is righteous anger Sahaosi, Sahao Maidhi, you are the embodiment of Sahanasakthi or forbearance give me a little because there are so many things in our life which we can never really speaking overcome or even find a remedy, the only thing we can do is we must have that power to forbear them and convert them into friends, into helps instead of obstructions that is called Sahanasakthi, Sahaosi Sahao Maidhi but because of the Tejas that is what we are discussing I wanted to quote this as a result of sincere spiritual efforts made for a long time this divine effulgence radiates from devotees and yogis who have controlled their thoughts and whose thoughts constantly dwell on Brahman such a person will have a beautiful, sweet and charming personality, a spiritual light will shine in his face due to the practice of continence, people will be drawn to such a personality physical beauty is nothing compared with spiritual beauty I will have to pass on one incident and another is a remark first I will pass on the remark see there are physically many beautiful persons in this world but for most of the people on earth these people even though everybody knows this person is a very beautiful person they are repelled by something coming out of that so called beautiful persons, repelled once it was said Swami Vivekananda had beheld while moving in Paris the most beautiful woman and his gaze just rested upon that lady for a second instantaneously she appeared like an old monkey and then his mind became completely repelled what are we talking about here the physical beauty is not what attracts a person, if anybody says to another person you are very beautiful, I am attracted to you, if that person or no other person can be so badly mistaken as this person because it is not the physical formation that attracts it is something within that is coming out, we call it attraction, so there are so many, so many means innumerable uncountable cases where a man falls in love with a woman and vice versa, a woman falls in love with a man and they are not remarkable people but if they are asked, why did you choose this person, this person even doesn't look physically attractive or even bodily strong etc then the only reply sometimes it is not very clear even to the very person that there is something I can't help, I am in what is called inexorably attracted to this person, that attraction comes only from within, now a baby is not a very baby, everybody falls in love with a baby and why, because there is something such purity such simplicity such splendor not spiritual splendor but innocence that comes from that baby we are but in what is called helplessly drawn to the baby excepting some demonic people for a selfish purpose nobody really can hate a baby and such sweet smile, authentic smiles you will get only on the face of a baby or on the face of a spiritually illumined or practicing soul such a person will have a beautiful sweet and charming personality a spiritual light will shine in his face due to the practice of what is called continence, people will be drawn to such a personality like a small magnet is drawn to a powerful magnet, physical beauty is nothing compared with spiritual beauty Vivekananda was once coming back to India and on the way they were travelling in a ship and one night the sky was extremely clear and you know seeing the full moon from the top of a mountain is the only way, you can never compare it to dwelling in a city and looking upon the moon or dwelling in a forest and looking upon the moon dwelling in a desert or travelling on an ocean where there is no light pollution sound pollution atmospheric pollution etc every little star seems to be within the reach especially in desert dry areas Swamiji was travelling on a ship and he was talking with his intimate devotees it was midnight suddenly the moon came out and such a splendor everybody was spellbound and for a long time they were drinking in that sheer beauty this is called aesthetic beauty, after a long time Swamiji broke the spell saying if such is the beauty of Maya just imagine what could be the beauty of the master of the Maya which means God, so this is the truth, so wicked and selfish people however much they may try they will not be able to take advantage of such spiritual seekers who are endowed with Brahma Tejas, so the most important function of this spiritual splendor is to protect aspirants from worldly snares just now a beautiful incident with regard to Nagamahasaya came into my mind see Nagamahasaya was such a soul he used to go out for shopping and people consider that everybody is praying O Lord let this gentleman first step as a first customer into my shop because by experience they found out, but whichever shop Nagamahasaya enters as the first customer the whole day the business will be thriving we don't know, he was not doing it purposefully all unconsciously he will do it such is the splendor of that spiritual splendor that used to emanate from Nagamahasaya then people will not be able to take advantage of such spiritual seekers I have to narrate here beautiful story of one Muslim devotee of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu he was called Haridas Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had two disciples by the same name one is called Choto Haridas another was called Haridas simply or senior Haridas now this Haridas was living in a place in Bengal and then he was a Muslim and he became an ardent devotee of Sri Krishna he was repeating everyday 100,000 names of Krishna what is called Maha Mantra Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare this is called Maha Mantra by Vaishnavas and it is a very ancient mantra also now these fanatical Hare Krishna people they are so fanatical that instead of saying Hare Rama first they will say Hare Krishna first Hare Rama comes next why? Krishna is greater than Rama such stupidity we can only pray to God to bestow his grace upon them that they do not know Krishna is Rama, Krishna is Shiva, Krishna is Shakti Krishna is everything Rama is everything Shiva is everything Shakti is everything that's what Sri Ramakrishna's important teachings God is only one and people call him by various names reminding us once again the Rig Vedic truth truth is one but people choose to call the truth by various names, so this Haridas he was the humblest of the persons and there was a local Jamindar and the people when they looked at this life of Haridas they had no option but to revere him as manifest God on this earth now the Jamindar was longing to be shown such reverence, respect can be given because of money because of age because of power, because of fear, but reverence can come only from the hearts of the people and it has nothing to do with these external manifestations so he was stung by the sting of jealousy, scorpion of jealousy and he paid a huge amount of money to a most beautiful woman, a public woman to tempt Haridas so this lady in what is called as Lobha greediness of this money, she see, these people know how to capture men's hearts, so instead of dressing splendidly she dressed in the simplest of the Vaishnava dress just a white sari and a Tulasi mala around her neck, she came and sat in front of Haridas hut and waiting for him to come out, at about noon Haridas used to come out and then take bath then get some, obtain some food and then eat it and then enter, only next noon he will come, as soon as this Haridas came out this lady fell at his feet and said, I heard of your spirituality and I want to serve you, please allow me to serve you, but Haridas doesn't know all the scheming this lady was entertaining he simply said wholeheartedly, mother I have taken a vow I have to complete everyday the repetition of 100,000 of the Mahamantra I only did my half only when I complete my another half I will come and to speak with you, so he went away and after sometime he came back again and he did not come out till next noon, 3 days passed, this lady was also determined, but by his very presence slowly an unconscious transformation started taking place within her by the end of 3 days she understood her mind highlighted the sinful life she was leading and the purest of life Haridas was leading, at the end of 3 years she became truly repentant prayed to God wholeheartedly took refuge in Haridas and said, I will commit suicide if you do not impart me the name of God, I don't want anything I just want the name of God and Haridas prompted by God's will, he gave her the Mahamantra and immediately departed from there and then came this lady stayed in that place and she attained illumination by the grace of Krishna so even wicked people will be transformed we have innumerable incidents practically in the life of every saint if we search for it, so Sriram Krishna's life so many such incidents were there, what was the incident Madhur Babu thought that Sriram Krishna had become deranged of brain because he was observing too much of continents, his unconscious is longing for the release of this sexual desires so he took Sriram Krishna to a public woman, as soon as Sriram Krishna went there he started weeping Maa, and the ladies understood that here is a holy man and if we do anything to him we will be harmed immediately they abused Madhur Babu and not stopping there, he also brought one Lakshmi Bai to Dakshineswar and left her what did Sriram Krishna do so as soon as he saw, he understood immediately he shouted at the top of his voice and Sriram Krishna had a very very powerful voice, after all he has been practicing like the Chaiwalas in the railway platforms sorry for the comparison and Chai from one end of the platform, a whole railway station, this voice pierces our ears Sriram Krishna through singing continuously, the whole gospel of Sriram Krishna of more than may be 2000 pages, of which we got only more than 1000 pages he was the main talker so he abused his voice and that's why he had to pay the price of throat cancer anyway he gave a big shout, hey Ramlal come here, see who has come into my room of course, how is it possible to do any mischief in the when 1000 eyes are watching this lady immediately she understood the greatness by the mere seeing the sight of Sriram Krishna how many of these actresses which Girish Chandra Ghosh was very eager to introduce to Sriram Krishna and obtain his blessings for them became completely spiritual, Tara was one of them, Vinodini was one of them, I forget a few other people who were there they ultimately retired from this sinful life and became complete Brahmacharinis and Sanyasins and became blessed by devoting their life only meditation upon God, there was an incident I cannot but I cannot refrain from narrating it, Swami Vivekananda he was returning he was touring Egypt that is where he got the news that Captain Sevier had passed away and he refused to stay there, so one day along with his devotees, friends walking in what we call they entered into a red light district and then both sides of the street was full of these women crying, come, come come here, come here, look at me, how beautiful and Swamiji was so absorbed in talking about spiritual life and he will not talk anything excepting spiritual talk, he was absorbed, the other devotees were hesitating, they were hurrying him, suddenly he came back to normal consciousness and he immediately understood he was not a fool and he approached some of them and as soon as he came near Hombre, Hombre is a man of God we are sinners some simply closed their eyes and ran into their homes some of them closed their eyes and stood there and a few of them bold enough they came and fell at his feet touching the hem and then they said, they all recognized, man of God, man of God man of God, see even in those externally low circumstances these people's conscience was kept on a high level, they knew what they were doing so they could recognize where billion, million thousands of people had never understood what was the real secret of Swami Vivekananda's speech, it was not powerful oratory, it was not the choicest words used there but it was coming from a great ancient Rishi they did not realize how blessed they were to be initiated by this Upadesha anything that comes from the mouth of a Rishi is a mantra, every word that came out from the mouth of Swami Vivekananda was a truth, which Miss McLeod realized and said the first word that I heard from him was truth, the second word I heard from him was truth, thereafter every word that he uttered even in jest was nothing but truth, this is what we are talking about, pages so nobody will be able to harm them I have not seen, come across a single instance those who have attained to these stages they have been harmed by any evil intentions or worldly people so it looks they had difficulties but they were never harmed on the contrary even the very torture they raised these people's minds to the greatest spiritual heights so nobody will be able to harm them, this spiritual splendor protects them or it creates obstacles nor these stages creates obstacles in the form of Siddhis, in the path of such spiritual seekers, for there is always a divine protection for such sincere aspirants, that's why Shri Krishna advises all spiritual seekers to cultivate stages I just pass one remark Shri Ram Krishna was approached by many of his disciples so they remember, they were in the prime of their youth and they all suffer from this chemical factory that starts functioning full steam when they attain this youth, but then one such devotee approached Shri Ram Krishna and he became a monk later on, and Shri Ram Krishna touched his body and said go, you may live amidst a thousand most beautiful women but no thought of lust or looker will ever be able to touch you, I have put around you this spiritual armor, so these stages not only helps such persons but they can also help other people also, so we have to develop stages how do we develop it? we cannot go to the shop and say I want one kilo of spiritual stages, that is not going to happen, we have to pay the price, and Swami Prema Anandaji's life, there is an incident so he was telling you all go on crying, so lord grant me love, grant me love Prema, so he gave a small analogy, one day in a village, a vendor came with a basket on his head Prema, Prema love of God, remember Prema has nothing to do with world this Kama is the feeling that we all cherish Prema deserves only one target targets only one being and that is God when our feelings turn towards God that is called Prema when the same feelings turn towards any worldly object other than God that is called Kama so one vendor came, Prema, Prema who wants to buy Prema, so many people gathered, we want Prema we want Prema, and how much do you want I want one kg then you have to give one kg of your flesh that is the price, of course who will be willing to give because what is he trying to tell that this is not to be acquired by any physical this thing, you turn your mind towards God, then only when you are completely, and to the extent you are absorbed in God to that extent, the stages will come, it is something natural that we will have to acquire, there is no other way the next quality 22nd spiritual quality, every spiritual aspirant must acquire is called Kshama Kshama means forgiveness as usual there is such a succinct definition of what are these things, we get from nobody else but Shankaracharya he says, what is Kshama? Utpathi means production Utpathi means non-production of what? Vikriya any type of change in our mental attitude inside us, inside our mind, when Akrishtasya, somebody is being tortured, somebody is being beaten, somebody is being made to go through intolerable suffering in whatever way, it could be mental, it could be physical it could be property wise, external, in any way, but this will not create any kind of adverse reaction, very similar to what is called Sahishnuta or Sahanaselatha, it is also called in Vivekachudamani Tithiksha, Sahanam Sarvadukhanam, Apratikara Purvakam, Chintavilaparahitam, Tithiksha Sa Nigatyate so no question of thinking of revenge, I cannot take revenge now, I will take revenge later on, no even under the most torturing intolerable conditions there will be only one prayer going on, O Lord please bless this child because he is also your child the greatest example is Pralada, we know the story of Pralada, his own father how much he tried to torture him, kill him he threw him into fire, he threw him against pointed weapons he threw him on the ground and wanted elephants to trample upon him, he threw him from the heights of the mountains into the sea and every possible trick he tried and what was the behaviour reaction of Pralada he will just fold his hands a beautiful, I don't know about other languages a beautiful film was taken in Telugu language, it is Bhakta Pralada, very old film but superbly taken, whenever his father has ordered his people that you are not my son, you belong to my enemy Narayana you belong to Narayana see there is a lot of inner meaning is there, you belong to Narayana, why? you are always thinking of Narayana, ok sir, what about you yourself, whom are you thinking oh, I am thinking of also Narayana, isn't it because only I am thinking in assumed inimical feeling you are thinking assumed devotee's feeling the difference is only in the pathway but the end result is exactly the same, that is the inner meaning, so what was Pralada doing, he was not cursing, he was not frightened there was no vikara, change in his mental attitude he folds his hands like that what does he do, Narayana Narayana, do what you want to do, you want me to suffer I am ready to suffer, you want to save me, you save me, you don't want to save me that is also ok but I leave it to you do whatever you want, this is called Paripoorna Sharanagati and that is called Kshama, forgiveness absence of internal perturbation when offended or assaulted Kshama, Sahanasilatha somebody is abusing, somebody is beating, somebody is imprisoning me, somebody is robbing me it doesn't matter so God is only taking away what belongs to God Kshama, Shankaracharya says is unaffectedness when beaten or reviled, forgiveness on the contrary is freedom from antagonism towards others even when they cause injury to oneself, very important point, forgiveness is the ornament of a hero he who has the capacity and the opportunity to avenge the wrongs done to him, so Swami Vekananda specially draws our attention to this particular point what is it, a weak fellow when he is being treated very abusively by other person, he says I forgive you, this kind of forgiveness has absolutely no meaning because this fellow has no power to forgive but who is a person has the capacity and the opportunity to avenge the wrongs done to him and now I remember one very beautiful incident from the life of Prophet Muhammad at the beginning as many people do not know there were many enemies they wanted to kill him once he was travelling alone and an enemy saw him with a drawn sword was running after Prophet Muhammad and Prophet of course he ran, hid in a cave this fellow came and at last he caught hold of, he raised his sword and he wanted to chop off the head of Muhammad but Muhammad was also an expert, he was not a person to keep quiet, somehow he was very calm and quiet and he snatched the sword from that other person's hand and he raised it and the other fellow has no way out to go and then he started trembling with fear, then Prophet Muhammad said go in peace because I forgive you in the name of Allah Allah is watching me he would have forgiven you and I will be also forgiving you, let us not become enemies, let us be friends and then immediately transformation has come in the life of that person said you had the power to finish me off but you have forgiven me and you have given me my life back I am eternally grateful, I am a slave to your true love, prema and he became converted to the teachings of Muhammad and that is why Jesus Christ said love thy enemies if they beat you even then you forgive them, pray for their welfare and that is what he did himself even at last when his own brothers that is rabbis, priests they wanted to get rid of him and ultimately made him crucified by the Roman pilot, then before giving up his life he prayed father forgive them for they know not what they do so this is the ornament of a hero not a weak and idiotic fellow then we have in the Mahabharata itself we get a great example, there was you know Duryodhana by playing false and defeated Yudhishthira snatched his kingdom and enslaved them and sent them out for 13 years, 12 years in the forest and one year off living incognito the condition was if they were ferreted out, recognized then again another 13 years, so Yudhishthira was staying and Duryodhana wanted to torture them psychologically so he came to the place these people were Pandavas were camping on the banks of a small river and on opposite side Duryodhana camped and he opened all the shops in the Las Vegas they will be drinking, gambling dancing, singing every type of environment and he brought out all the tables out so that in the very sight of his Pancha Pandavas and his followers he wanted to eat and this will create a kind of mental torture in the minds of his Pandavas and what happened in that was a beautiful river with cooling water anybody wants to jump into it and be immersed in it, there was a Gandharva and he came along with his wives and he was sporting and Duryodhana wanted to do the same so he said, hey you fellow get out, that fellow said who the hell are you, then Duryodhana thought he was invincible because he had Karna, he had Dushyasana, he had so many other people along with him, he did not recognize, this Gandharva in no time tied him up and then about to cut off Duryodhana's head and Yudhishthira watching the whole thing, immediately he ordered, go and rescue, after all he is our cousin we cannot allow somebody else to harm him within our sight naturally Arjuna Bhima rose in rebellion and said, he is the root cause of all our problems, how can we forgive him, then he said that when there are outsiders, we are 100 plus 5, when we are alone, then we are 100, we are 5 and the others are it is a shame, so Yudhishthira forgot completely what Duryodhana had done, gave him life back and then he said, don't do anything like that, of course Bhima gave you stupid fellow because of our mercy of our eldest brother, you got back your life and put your tail in between your legs and then run away from here so that triumphant camping has turned into the most inglorious defeat, this is called Kshama, there are so many things are there, we will talk in our next class Om May Ramakrishna holy mother and Swami Vekananda bless us all with
