And he never asks. By that time, he just enters. Somehow, Sri Ramakrishna raises that very topic, answers, so that there are no remnant doubts remaining in the devotee's mind. And Ramana Maharshi also said... You know, funny, she says, every time I come here, something has been in my mind. Even this thought, every time, every time I come, you somehow refer to it, and then you look, now I'm not making this up, and sometimes my mind goes back, how is it possible, how is it possible? That means he is controlling my mind. You see, the mind is in communication. The mothers of children, small babies, you know, somehow the mother feels that intuitively, this thing is there. Yeah, it happens. That's what Eric Fromm... Have you heard about him? I was referring to him. Come, Srinivasa. So when did you come to this country? Last September. You are here since September? Yes. My God, this is six months. But I am far away from this place. Which place? Shearness. Okay. So from here it is kind of... Yeah. Okay, okay. Sit down. So this is true also. Our minds, you know, work on a particular level. So it is possible if someone has got a doubt, and especially great souls like Sri Ramakrishna, Ramana Maharshi, they have got that power, intuitive power. And it must be a sincere question. If it is a curiosity-mongering question, it doesn't work. So there was a devotee of Sri Ramakrishna called Gopala's mother. And she was a very great lady. Towards the end, you know about her life? Gopala's mother. So she was a child widow. And she started worshipping Bhagavan Krishna because, you know, in those days widows, remarriage never happened. So naturally their minds used to turn towards God, for most of the people. So she started, especially women, they say, long for econation. Children, long for children. Every woman wants to be called a mother. It is their very instinct, because their biology, their very physical body is created for that purpose. So this lady, her whole life she has to live like a widow's life. And she started worshipping Krishna. So two birds with one stone shot. What is that? She is worshipping God, and she is also fulfilling the longing for having a child. Because if God is the child, everything is fulfilled. And she had wonderful visions of Sri Ramakrishna as Gopala. Gopala is another name for child Krishna. Ambegal Krishna, we call him. Crawling, like that. Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, you know. One day he was passing by. It is a joke. Jesus Christ was passing by. And our Krishna, he was eating butter. So why this joke came? One Christian missionary came to one of our Swamis, and he had a grave doubt. He said, do you accept Jesus as the incarnation of God? Our Swami said, yes, sure. But what about Krishna? He said, yes, he also is a great incarnation of God. Okay. So now what happens? How come our Jesus is always in a prayerful, kneeling down, prayerful mood? And your Krishna is always depicted nicely eating butter. How can he be? He said, hey, you don't know the story behind it. One day our Krishna was sitting in the front porch and eating butter. Jesus Christ was passing by. He saw Krishna eating butter. And he came and said, I am hungry, give me Krishna a little bit butter. Krishna said, no, my mom gave it to me. I am not going to give it to you. Your Jesus, you know, he was so eager, he nearly knelt down. That is how Jesus came to. Anyway, interesting stories. So this Gopala Yama, later on everyone recognised. Most wonderful story, how sakara upasana slowly leads one to nirakara. Sakara, you understand? God with form, God with qualities. According to Hinduism, spiritual progress takes place in three steps. Spiritual progress indicates what type of idea a person has about God. So there can be three concepts of God according to the spiritual development of an aspirant. What is the first idea? God is with form, with qualities and with names. Most of us are in that state. When a person goes beyond, he thinks form of God is a limitation. Because anything that has a form is a limitation. Space has no limit. But the moment you put a wall, it becomes a house. That means we think. When you say how big a house, what are you talking? Are you talking about house or are you talking about space? Space. Space has no limitations. But the walls seemingly create a limitation. So the first stage for any form is necessary to focus our mind. Second, that is why in Swamiji's life if you read, it is a marvellous study in the development of human psyche. First of all, Swamiji was a worshipper of Rama. Sita and Rama. Very funny story. His greatest ideal in life was Sita and Rama. Then you see, they had one horse carriage. And they employed a coachman. And the coachman was a frustrated husband. His wife left him. From that time onwards, he started preaching marriage is worthless. It is the most horrible thing a person can do. And he was the ideal of Narendra. Because he said, my ideal in life is to be having that pagadi and sit as the coachman. And that is the greatest happiness it will give me at that time. So whatever the coachman tells is vedavakya parampara. So the coachman started, nobody else would listen excepting Narendra Nath. He was the only audience for that coachman. And the coachman went on marriage. You know you are worshipping Sita and Rama. Hey Rama, where will you go? There was a meeting of atheists. Whole day they were talking about what? How God doesn't exist. And towards the end, one speaker came to the microphone and he sneezed. All the atheists, may God bless you. So even to talk about God that He doesn't exist is much better than talking rubbish. So this coachman went on telling. Then Swamiji got inspired, yes it is true, marriage horrible. So he took Sita and Rama and threw them down as broken and threw them. But he has to worship somebody. So Shiva, yogi. Fortunately at that time no one told him. He was like this coachman. He was a frustrated husband. His wife kicked him out. And he had no option but to sit in Himalaya and meditate. So he was like that. Then he joined Brahma Samaj. Brahma Samaj idealism is worship God without form but with qualities. They think it is a very developed type of spirituality. Not knowing. Similar to Christianity. No, Christianity, there are two types. If you take Catholic Christianity it is full of images, rituals, icons and then the whole from morning till evening they are doing that one only. But if you go to Protestantism that is where this formless aspect of God. But Muslims God has got, Allah has got thousand names. Thousand means many. But He doesn't have it. That's why they have become what you call idol breakers. In Hinduism, how beautiful so many thousands and thousands of beautiful Hindu temples they just demolished just because that fanatical idea that God should not be worshipped. And in the early 19th century many Hindus were deeply influenced. I say they were influenced by Christianity. But what type of Christianity? Missionary Christianity which is not Catholic Christianity which is non-Catholic Christianity. That is why all Hindus are idolaters. That was being propagated everywhere. Somehow Keshav Chandra Sen was deeply influenced by Sufism and by Christianity and it became a real Khechuri. What sort of Christianity was influenced by? They were not evangelists were they? No, who? Brahmos? No, no, the Christian missionary. Yes, yes, yes. Jesuits and missionary. No, no, no. All Christians. No, what I am saying is in the 19th century Anywhere, anytime. Jesuits and... Anybody, even today. But they are the same as Catholics. Jesuits are servants of Catholicism. They were a special sect born to propagate Catholicism. Yes, that is why they are Catholics. But they are not the only... Jesuits are very few people in India. It is the Methodists. Methodists. Who influenced... Because they used to get married from America especially. So it is a very, very interesting phenomenon. History. Keshav Chandra Sen was deeply influenced. For example, France is a Catholic majority country. Whereas UK, as it stands now, it is Protestant. These Anglicans they call it. Yes, they are the ones who brought the Protestant movement. So that is why these fellows, missionaries, went to India and they were married fellows. Their husband, wife and all that. So, Keshav Chandra Sen visited here and he was deeply influenced by Christianity. Also because at that time the Christians used to preach Hinduism is nothing but idolatry. To such an extent, one of the Rajas of the Rajasthan had challenged Swamiji. You know that incident? When Swamiji was wandering, he came and at that time you have to understand the kings have the power to kill a person. They can just say, kill this fellow. They have the power of death over anybody. And Swamiji was a very young man. And this Raja, somehow his minister got attracted and he was invited. And then the question that was asked, first question the king asked, why did you become a monk? Because according to them, all monks are idols, what is called idol people, parasites, preying on the society. Swamiji understood, these are these kind of idiots in hundreds. Then Swamiji challenged him, O king, you neglect your duties and go on hunting. Why do you do that? Why do you go on hunting? If anybody else, his head would have been chopped. But Swamiji was a powerful personality, a king thought a little. And he said, that is perhaps because I enjoy it. Swamiji said, that is the reason why I became a monk. That's not the real answer. But he wanted to convey to him, you should not question such things, because you have no concept what is a monk, what is Hinduism. Okay, second question, why do people worship idols? You know the famous story that happened? You don't know? Swamiji did not explain. He said, he looked at, there were so many paintings of that king's ancestors. So he pointed and said, whose painting is that? He said, it is my father's. He told the prime minister, that you bring that, spit on it. In front of the king, he is telling, spit on it. The minister started shaking and said, Swamiji, what are you talking about? This is His Excellency's father, His Majesty's father. He said, what father? This is just nothing but a piece of paper and a little bit of few daubings of colour. That's all, nothing else. But of course, Swamiji did not mean that. Then he said, Raja, do you see what question you have asked? This is not your father, but this painting, it reminds everybody of your father who passed away. They respect him. Similarly, when a Hindu bows down, before an image, he is not telling, oh, piece of wood and piece of stone, I am bowing down in front of you. No stupid fellow will do that. Even stupid fellows will not do that. Not to speak of intelligent people. It reminds them something much greater. Because for the abstract, even for abstract mathematicians, how do they express their formulas? But even the highest philosophy, Vedanta is saying that everything is good. Basically, everything is good. There is another way of explaining the thing. No, no, no, what is meant is, we have no idea. We don't understand our own philosophy. We have no idea of abstract ideas. So we have to travel from a concrete to semi-abstract to abstract. Even that highest abstract thought is a thought. It is not abstract. That is why it is called Brahma Akara Vritti. And so that is not the reality. That is the nearest representation of highest reality. But it is not reality. That is why Totapuri had to tell Sri Ramakrishna, you destroy that last thought. But the funny thing is, nobody can destroy a thought. Because one thought can be destroyed only by another thought. So if you bring another thought to destroy the first thought, you require a third thought to destroy the second thought at infinitum. That is why Sri Ramakrishna was able to cut the figure of the Divine Mother into two. By what? Not by his thought. By the Divine Mother's grace, she removed the mind itself. And then he said, the figure of the Divine Mother disappeared and I became unconscious. The mind merged in its source, which is abstract, real abstract. That is why Sri Ramakrishna is saying that a pure mind is pure Atman. Pure mind and pure Atman are one and the same. So what do you mean by pure mind? Pure mind means it is pure Atman. That means a pure mind is not a mind at all. It is called breaking the mirror. Very abstract philosophy is there, I will not go into it. But what is important, Swamiji was conveying that no man can worship God directly because he has got a personality. I am a body, I am a mind. So the only thing he can do is he can have an exalted human being. That is why Sri Ramakrishna, an avatar is the highest rating of God by an ordinary man. If you ask what is God, it is like a small girl story. There was a school. There was a drawing class. One day the drawing master asked the children to draw something. So everybody was drawing something and the drawing master was going and watching what the children are drawing. But he was coming again and again to one small girl. He could not make head of tail or what she was trying to draw. So he asked my child, what are you trying to draw? She said, I am trying to draw God. Then the teacher asked, do you know what God looks like? She said no, but when I finish I will know. Yes, so what is the idea here? Our ancestors, especially an avatar, they have finished the drawing and given that drawing to us and that is what we are trying to worship. Whether it is Rama or Krishna or Hanuman or Varaha avatar, incidentally one young man came, a little bit screw loose young man, came to Swamiji and asked him, Swamiji, my Guru is an avatar. Can you tell me which avatar? He told, you know, we have got several avatars, Korma avatar, Matsya avatar, Varaha avatar, find out which avatar. Anyway, what is the point? Any abstract idea must become concrete. That is why there are symbols. These are all called symbols. The word in Sanskrit for symbol is called Linga. That is why Shiva Linga. So what is Linga? The meaning of Linga is Lingiyate iti Lingaha, that which points out, like an arrow. You know, shrine is here, you go this way, fire, fire exit like that, they show arrows, you know, glowing, fire exit like that. I have seen stupid fire exit signs. Simply it is glowing. I look, here also a door, here also a door, here also a door, here also a door. Now which way shall I go out? Bhool Bhulaiya, have you seen Bhool Bhulaiya? Lucknow? Oh, very interesting concept, you know. Have you seen it? Oh, at least, you know, to understand what is Maya, what is marriage, you have to go into that. So, in Lucknow, there is a huge, what is called, maze. So, the guides, you know, you give someone, you have to take a guide always. So, he will take you a little bit inside and says from now onwards, you try to come out. Have you seen any? So, made out of this fence. Very beautifully constructed. So, he takes it out and then says, if you don't come out within 40 minutes, I will come and take you out. So, what happens, they took us like that. When I was a brahmachari, I went to Lucknow and Maharaj sent me, Sridharanandaji, he sent me with a jeep, then I went there and then the guide took me inside. Just a little bit, five minutes, you walk inside. I thought I was clever. Now I have noticed from which direction. Then you enter into the next room. Very cleverly, what you know, every room has got four doors and all the doors, equal size, they look exactly. But slightly, you know, if it is southern side, the next inside door will be slightly towards the left, maybe an inch. Now I know my direction. But if you enter the next one, then it will be another inch. That means you are going round and round and round and round. This is called Bhol Bhulaiyya. So, the whole universe is Bhol Bhulaiyya. Very interesting. Aschariyam, aschariyavad pashyati kashchidenam, aschariyavad vadati tathaiva janya, aschariyavad shrunoti kashchid, shrutvapi na kashchid veda. Bhagavad Gita tells you now. Everybody hears about the Atman. The speaker speaks in wonderment. The hearer listens with wonderment. The seer sees in wonderment. But even after hearing many times, there is no concept of what the Atman is like. Do you know why? Because it is beyond every concept. So you are trying to conceive God through your mind. And the precise idea is that He is not a thought. You cannot conceive Him because He is the conceiver. So don't try to conceive. Because if you conceive, you have to deliver. That is most dangerous. So this Gopala Irma, she became a saint. She used to call everyone, my Gopala, means my Krishna. Because she is seeing God everywhere. Now what happened, later on, many sincere devotees, they used to go there to solve their doubts. So they used to put, Mother, I have this problem, what is your answer? She says, Baba, I know nothing. My Gopala knows everything. I will ask my Gopala. And she will give. Because Gopala means there, for her, it is Ramakrishna or God. So she gets the right answers intuitively. And then she answers. And the devotees, they become highly benefited. But some idle mongers, curiosity mongers also come there. Seeing everybody asking questions, they feel inferior. If we don't ask questions, then what will people think? Then they put some idle questions. Then Gopala Irma used to say, I don't know, I will ask my Gopala. And she comes with the answer, Gopala tells me, you are a curiosity monger. I am not going to answer your question. And that would be much more embarrassing than anything else in this world. So this is how, what is the first concept? God with forms, names and qualities. The second concept is God without form. That means He is much more unlimited. Not completely unlimited, but much more, like your dreams. So with full of qualities. Not only, you see, in the second stage, only good qualities. Asesha, Kalyana, Guna, Sagaraha is an ocean of infinite good qualities. Very interesting. Suppose I am fond of drinking alcohol. What should be God? Asesha, Madhya Sagaraha. Suppose I am very fond of Rasagulla. What should be God? Unlimited supply of first class Rasagullas, divine Rasagullas. That is why Indian mythology has created seven oceans, you know. There is a Kshera Sagaraha, there is a Lavana Sagaraha, there is an Amruta Sagaraha, there is a Madhya Sagaraha. Whatever a person likes, he wants. You remember that joke? There was a milkman. He wanted to become rich. So he prayed to Lord Shiva. And you know what milkmen do? It is their habit to... No, no. One milkman was challenged. You rogue, you always mix water in milk. He said, no, you are completely wrong. We don't mix. We mix. So this milkman, once he had an idea, I want to become very rich. So he prayed to Lord Shiva. Shiva came and said, what is your wish? He said, Lord, give me a Kshera Sagaraha. Kshera Sagaraha is very important for Hindus. I will tell you why. Kshera Sagaraha Kanya. Kshera Sagaraha Kanya ko aarathi itthiro. Like that, there is one song. Lakshmi Devi. Yeah. Very interesting, these stories. Sunila, according to Indian concept, is a Dashamagraha. Everybody worships how many grahas? Nine. But the moment the Sunila comes, it becomes what? Dashamagraha. And Bhagwan Vishnu and Bhagwan Shiva are the two ideal Sunilas for all the Sunilas. What is it? They never left their father-in-law's place. Where is Vishnu staying? Kshera Sagaraha. Kshera Sagaraha. Once he got addicted to that treatment. Shiva's mother-in-law. Parvati's mother. He is staying there. Ever since marriage, he is staying there in Kailash. Yeah. That is the ideal for all Indian sons-in-law. Anyway. So, this milkman, he wanted to give me an ocean of milk. Shiva immediately said, yes. And he was going. So, for a second, this milkman was supremely happy. He forgot. Then he remembered. He said, Shiva, Shiva, Shiva, please wait. I forgot. Please give me one more bone. What is it? Give me an ocean of water also. Laughter So, what is the second concept? God without forms, but with qualities and names. Then the highest concept. Without forms, without qualities. Therefore, there cannot be any name. Where there is no form, there cannot be any name. But in the second one, there is no form, but there is name. No name. That is why first name, form, qualities. Second, form, formless and qualities. Without form and qualities. The name Allah doesn't mean a thing. No, no. That means it is a quality. Like Vishnu Sahasranama, Shiva Sahasranama, thousand names of God. You see, every name in Sanskrit is a quality. See, Subrata. It is not a name. It is a quality. Yeah, supposed to be, you know, you are supposed to be Subrata. Yeah, Subrata. Shri Kanta. Dayatma. I am supposed to have daya. Many people have grave doubts about it. So the examples of the without form but with qualities and name is more strongly... You see, quality is abstract. You say goodness, happiness, hatred. Where is the form? There is no form there. But any abstract, this is called concept. Percept and concept. Whatever can be experienced through the five sense organs is a percept. So it is a perception. Whatever we conceive as a result of this, it is called a concept. So take the example, love. So how do you know whether a person is a loving person or not? By just looking at that person, it is difficult to assess. But through the actions, you know, your mother loves you. How do you know she loves you? Only through her actions. She will cook for you. She will feed you. Not only she will feed you, the way she looks at you, the way Sri Ramakrishna looks at you. There was a very interesting incident. You know, there was one devotee called Manomohan. And devotees are full of jealousy. There is no exception there. So what happened, one day, this Manomohan used to go to Sri Ramakrishna very frequently. And one day in his presence, Sri Ramakrishna praised Surendra. Baas! We are nobody. And Sri Ramakrishna is praising him only. So he stopped going. But everyday he used to think, why did Sri Ramakrishna behave like that? He should not have behaved like that. He was thinking only Sri Ramakrishna. Six months passed. He was this devotee, he was in the habit of everyday taking bath in the Ganga. So that day morning, he was taking bath. Suddenly he saw a boat slowly approaching. He thought it was a boat. So many hundreds of boats fly there. So he saw that prominent devotees like Balaram Basu were there. You know the boats will have some covering. So this Balaram Basu and one or two others were standing in the front. So as the boat was approaching, Manomohan could see. And he made a little bit, what is called, fun. Oho! Today how lucky I am. Amar kopal ta ki bhalo, bhagga ta ki bhalo. Today great devotees of great saints are there. I am seeing them early in the morning. In fun, you know, pulling their legs, not really sincerely. Of course, Balaram Basu, he could understand. So he said, the only devotee, Hajrat Mohammad himself has come. Hajrat Mohammad means Thakur. Thakur himself had come. Then Sri Ramakrishna came. He did not speak one single word. In such a way, he was looking at Manomohan as though a mother looks at the child. Then Manomohan ran and fell at his feet and resumed his, until the next episode. You know, devotees get offended. Even small things they get offended. Many, many, many things happen like that. If we do not overcome them, we will not make one millimeter progress in life. That's what Nagamasha used to say. Unless you lift the anchor of the boat, you are not going anywhere. You know that famous story. Four drunkards got into a boat after nicely drinking. Then the whole night, you know, it was dark and they were full of, their spirits were uplifted. Very uplifted spirits. They started rowing and rowing. Whole night they rowed. And early morning, slowly the light started coming. By that time, they were able to see and also the intoxication had come down. So jo aata hai, wo sala jaata hai. I have to tell a nice joke, a naughty joke. Anyway, so then they found out they were exactly where they entered into the boat. Then they found out that they were rowing okay, but they have not untied the boat. Very, Nagamasha used to repeat this. What is this untying this boat? From the shackles of kama, krodha, loha, moha, madha and matsarya. That is why yama and niyama, the very foundation of spiritual life, start with first getting rid of negative qualities. Second, acquiring positive qualities without which you cannot even sit. Because what is the third step? Asana. Asana means what? Sitting. You cannot sit. Unless the mind is quiet, you cannot sit. Very interesting. So this is very, very important in any spiritual life. Jealousy. So many people became jealous of Narendra Nath. Sri Ram Krishna used to love only Narendra Nath. They did not understand that kichu, kichu, kichu. Motalabha je pechane. You know what is the motalabha? He wanted to milk him later on too much. Get his work done. And that's why, very interesting, we were starting, you know, Swami Vivekananda started with idol worship. Then they broke the idols. Then he joined the Brahma Samaj. Through that he came to Sri Ram Krishna. And the first thing that he noticed was, several of his colleagues, they were worshipping Mother Kali. And Narendra, free criticism. He did not charge any money for that. We also do that, you know, free. This free service. Criticizing other people. Why do I call it service? Do you know why I call it service? Because otherwise you have to pay 100 pounds per hour and get the same truth from the other fellows. Now these fellows are giving you totally, unselfishly free. Not unselfish really. Very selfish. Because they get a lot of joy out of it. If they don't get joy, they will not criticize. Sri Ram Krishna used to say, miserly, you know, if you give one anna and ask them to buy one anna worth of gold, jaggery, on the way back, they will be sucking half of it. And what remains only, they will give it to you. And they found out here, one pizza delivery man, before delivering the pizza, he cut a small portion, ate it, smoothened it, and then delivered it, and then videographed it, and then showed it. All sorts of people will be there. So then he had to go through several stages. Of whom Sri Ram Krishna used to tell, he was the perfected Rishi, Saptarshi Mandala. He has been specially brought down for doing mother's work. And Sri Ram Krishna used to tell, he was a Dhyana Siddha, perfect from birth in meditation. In spite of all that, he had to go through, what was the first stage? He was an atheist. Second stage, he was a skeptic. Third stage, he was a, what is that word? You know, I don't know. Agnostic. Agnostic attitude. And then, again, faith in God. And first faith in God without form, then faith in God with form. He had to go through all these stages. Tell me now, why? Because he was a perfect person. Because he has to teach not one type of person, all sorts of people. Agnostics, skeptics, atheists. Recently, I was reading one very peculiar teaching. One man came to Sri Ram Krishna. He frankly said, Sir, I don't believe in God. So tell me, what is the way out for me? He says, OK, you don't need to believe in God. You don't need to believe in anything. But at least you have to believe. You see so much of intelligence, so much of energy, so much of power, there must be a source of that power. Because every scientist has to believe in what? Cause. You know the ego. What is the cause of your body? Some material. What is the cause of that material? Some other material. Just go down and down and down and down. Ultimately, what they used to call, you have to come to matter or energy. What they call? They use peculiar words, strings of string theory and all those things they use. Anyway, so you have to believe in something. He says, yes, I believe in that. Now, hold on to that and try to go towards that. Problem solved. What you call energy, what we also call energy. Only we give a sophisticated Sanskrit name. What is the Sanskrit name for energy? Shakti. Brahman and Shakti are one and the same. So Ramakrishna had to deal with all these type of people. Another peculiar theory, you must have read about it. One day one man came and said, I don't believe in God. How can I pray? He said, pray this way. Oh God, if you exist. Oh God, if you feel like disturbing your grace, then please grant my prayer. No objection to this kind of, Oh God, if you exist. It's perfectly alright. So what is meant is, it is very important to have faith. Now my question to you, very important. Can any man live without faith? Either he has to believe in God, or what he calls, you know, a nation, or morality, or energy, or goodness, or brotherhood, something or other he has to believe. That's why Eric Fromm, several times I mentioned his name. If you ask the Russian communists, do you believe in God? Frankly they say, we don't believe in God. One devotee came here. I asked him, do you believe in God? He said, no. Then what do you believe in? He said, God's prasada I believe in. She is commentary, you know, sweet. You know, we all want something. How is it? What is the rational of it? One rationality, you know what is it? So long as we are imperfect, we are believers in perfection. Can you understand that? If you believe that I am imperfect, you presume that there is a state called perfection, and therefore the struggle will be, however unconscious, there would be a struggle. And every breath is a struggle to live. That is why you don't need to ask whether you believe in God, or is there anybody who disbelieves in happiness? Does anybody believe in unhappiness? Like as we believe in God, I don't believe in happiness. Is it possible? Because his happiness lies in telling that I believe in unhappiness. That's why Eric Fromm says that you have made your nation, state, your God. And there also you are behaving like a God. Aham Brahmasmi. Mahavashyatam, what does he say? Aham? Brahmasmi. Yeah, that means what? I must have all the women in China. Others also if possible, okay. But at least, you know, later on some life I was reading, he was the most immoral person. He suffered from lots of these diseases. And he says everything is equal. Millions have died because of his so-called scientific experiments. They used to forcefully take away all the harvest of the hard-working people, and millions literally died. But whenever tourists go, this is called conducted tour. That is called visitor's visa. You know the story of visitor's visa? One girl who did not believe in God, she died. She went to heaven and found life very boring. Morning, boiled potatoes. Noon, boiled potatoes. Night, boiled potatoes. So she looked up and there was one, you see, way to hell. So she asked God, can I go? He said, yes, you can go, but it is long distance. You have to take a plane. And what about visa? Yes, they will just, in the airport itself, they issue a visa. It is called visitor's visa. So she boarded and landed in another 40 minutes. And red carpet was there. The king of hell himself, with all his ministers, was waiting for her. And for 7 days and nights, they give 7 days and 7 nights, visitor's visa, she was fitted. And the best 7-star hotels, best food, best dance, best of all, all her old friends were there. So she had wonderful time and time had come for her. So she asked the king, who came to see her off, can I come and stay here? He said, yes, most welcome, but only we have a rule. Once you come here, you can't go. So think over it. No, no, no thinking of it. I decided I will come. So she went, bid goodbye to God and packed her, left the whole thing there because they are supplying, you know, came and landed. And this time, not even torn carpet, it is all cobbled road. And two ferocious looking fellows whisked her away and put her to tend the fires. She was furious. So one day, the king of hell was passing that way. She ran, sir, sir, what is this? First time when I came, you gave such a treatment. He said, smiling, we always reserve that treatment for visitors. But this is permanent job. All right. So without purifying our heart, it is not possible to progress in spiritual life. But what it really implies is you can't have higher happiness even in this world without purifying our mind. Even to enjoy ordinary sweets, you have to have certain mindset which is free from worries, not thinking I have to catch the plane, I have to meet somebody, I have to conduct, finish this business. Nowadays that is lacking. That is why everything is, you know, fast food. Fast food means not only food which is supplied very fast, but eating also very fast. Terrible. Previously people used to have time to sit and, you know, whole family and enjoy for one and a half hour, two hours, they used to enjoy. Now people don't have. Even while eating, phones come and they are watching. It's called multitasking. Then they found out they cannot enjoy really. Anyway, they say women are better at multitasking than men. And men are very happy to let the women do the multitasking. Multitasking means what? Let them prepare the breakfast, let them prepare the dinner, let them prepare the lunch, let them prepare in-between snacks also. Once Swami was asked, you know, Swami, do you fast? He said, always, in-between meals. All right. What else? Is that why you don't find male gods with lots of hands? Male gods? Female gods with lots of hands. Vishnu has got four hands. Vishnu has got four hands. So he is also multitasking. So Vishnu must be multitasking. Brahma, Brahma has got four hands. Four heads. Actually, he was having five heads. Then Shiva cut off one head. Actually, it is because he created Saraswati and he ran after her. He is called incest. But the thing is, there was no other woman available. Shiva himself has five faces. See, these are all symbolic. Brahma's four heads represent four Vedas. Four hands also, he will be having four Vedas because he is the creator. Veda represents knowledge. Everything is symbolism. So lotus, lotus is the source of knowledge, purity, intuition. So what is Indian's national flower? Lotus. And snake. Vishnu is sleeping on snake. It's a beautiful Kannada. I don't know. Kannada. I became mesmerized by hearing the name of Hari. Means two meanings are there. How beautiful, oh Lord, you are. And another is how clever you are. Just by hearing your name, I became hypnotized. Then he said, If you had a father who could teach you some manners, would you have been running into other people's houses to steal butter and other things? This is one. And then there is another, beautiful. Beautiful, you know, the meaningful, this thing, he says, If you are the father of Kamadeva, means Kamadeva is the most beautiful male in the whole world. And the father of Kamadeva should be much more. Would you have run after this old hunchback called Kubja? Like this, if your father had a little bit of property, why should he have constructed a house in this Ksherasagara? And if he had a nice bed, why should he have been sleeping? But anyway, you didn't know, people did not know that Vishnu was the first inventor of the spring cot. You know that spring, coiled, coiled serpent. Beautiful songs, you know, where Purandara Dasa has composed that kind of songs. Just mesmerizing. Having said all these things, he is telling, I don't know, I know about you, all these things. The moment I hear the name Hari, I forget everything, and I run after you. I don't know what has come over me, why I run after you. Beautiful idea, you know. Why is Kali standing on the Shiva? Amma, first feminine movement in the whole world. That is how you have to control your husband. There is no other way. Kali, you have to understand, these are all full of symbolism. Kali is deification of Kala. In Kala, birth comes. In Kala, sustenance happens. In time, birth, then living and death happens in what? That's what Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Chinmayananda calls, dash from omb to tomb. Very interesting, you know, in memorials, 1900 dash 1970, dashing from omb to tomb. Our life is like that. By that time, you come to know you are there. So, Kala means the activity. Activity always reminds us, at this time, this starts, and at this time, this ends. Office starts at this time, office ends at this time, etc. But Kala must be originating from what? Time must spring from timelessness. So, Mahakala represents eternity, timelessness. This is the symbolism. And then, because she is Kala, Kala means the whole universe, where else can she stand? Only in eternity, finite thing comes from where? Stands from where? On what? On infinity. That is the idea conveyed behind this finiteness. The very source of this finiteness is the infinity. What a marvellous concept. Srishti sthiti laya. Vara, abhaya, and vara. Then, this is laya. Srishti sthiti vinashanam, shakti bhute, sanatani gunasraye gunamayi narayani namostu te. Now, when we worship Kali, means worship Kala. Worship Kala means accept everything that happens in time. Accept birth, and accept also death. Then mind becomes very calm. When the mind becomes calm, then we will have a glimpse of Maha Kala, which is behind this whole creation. That is the idea. That is why if you worship Kali, then through Maha Kali, you will have the darshan of Maha Kala. That's what happened. Totapuri came. Sri Ramakrishna was an adept in worshipping Kali. Then Kali led him to Maha Kala. That is which is called Brahman. Another name for Maha Kala is Brahman. That is the idea. Very, very profound ideas are there. But normal people, you know, they are stuck. But it is also good. It reminds them, I have a God. I have a protector. The whole idea is abhaya. I don't have to fear so much because someone is looking after me. That is the idea. All right. So somebody sent me a joke, a naughty joke. Sardarji was discussing, Ji was discussing about life, especially about sukha and dukha. So Sardarji was waxing eloquent. Dukha toh hamesha saath mein rahati hai. Sukh kabhi aati hai, kabhi jaati hai. Somebody asked Sardarji, I don't understand Punjabi. Translate into English. He said, my wife is always with me. Your sister visits me now and then. All right. Thank you.
